Why I like Dave Ramsey is he tells it like it is, good or bad. Trying to work with my parents’ business at 35 and kinda finding it hard and find it hard to show up on time and do what it is to do business. Not entirely sure if I really like doing real estate. It’s great money, but I’m Not a people person….

In a similar situation. Brothers and I do the maintenance to all of the apartments my dad owns. Usually we are done with our work by noon. Leaving my afternoon to do a side job and/or start another business.

32 years ago I was in your position. Joined the family real estate business and I also not a people person, but I managed to push that aside and do my very best at the job. Fast forward to now, my dad and I have retired from the business this year. He is 84 and I am 62. We still work together to repair and remodel our rentals. I wouldn't want to work with anyone else. Good luck and I hope you find it as rewarding as I have.

@@matthewgardner2144 agree. I mean I appreciate Dave recognizing that potentially this kid could become a good leader but at the end of the day this Father knows his son. If he is missing the business side mainly run that portion yourself and start transitioning the labor side to him fully, teaching him new skills rhere as needed. Teach him the business side over 4 or 5 years, and you are free of the business by the time you're 62 or 63 and ready to retire.

The dude is tired enough to want to get out now. But it will be 8 years before the kid turns 30, and very few under-30s have the skills and ambition to run anything more than a bath. In my 20s I had ambition, but not the skills. That takes time and experiences (mainly the bad kind, LOL). Dave is right that the kids need to perform above and beyond to get that level of respect from the employees/customers. Hopefully junior does not take the helm at 30 and have sweeping new-fangled ideas!
