My friend was 28 years old with a paid off car, house, and river-front property he'd bought to build his dream home on one day. Fast forward ten years and he's had to sell the house and property to buy a huge 3 story house that his wife "needed" (in the same neighborhood as her friends). He still drives the same car though. I'm not saying marriage is a bad thing. I am saying we should talk about money, debt, and expectations before popping the question.

With the seminary student and high-earning wife… I’m just saying that if they max her 401k and a Roth each year they can still pay his student loans off within 2 years. I probably would find some middle ground here because her income is SO large.

And if you were married, and don't have the money. The house would have also been sold. Dave's baby steps are not for people making 300k. Making that much, you don't needs Dave's plan. She is doing nothing wrong. Dave's plan is not for everyone. She's pay off his loan. It's just not as fast as Dave want. It's called personal finance for a reason. Because it is personal. It is not a one size fits all. Just because her financial advisor does things different from Dave, does not mean they are wrong. Her financial advisor know more about her finances then Dave does. So what if it take two years to pay off, instead of one year?

Right but it seems as though the debt is not a priority even though it is a debt and it is now hers by marriage. You don't like your partners situation and debt? Then DO NOT marry them. If you are still going to live as though you as single even after you are married (including finances) then why would you sign a contract of marriage?

I haven’t watched the video yet, but when I saw the title my first thought was my relationship with the lord. Question when you pay tithes do you pay from your gross or net? I’m a business owner as a caterer and if I get paid “$1000” I’m only making “400” after supplies rental kitchen staff etc. so do I pay Tithes off the 400 or the thousand?
@davidpaul9961

@nikan7704
@nikan7704 Жыл бұрын
I don't know that the Bible addresses gross vs net. However your question isn't gross vs net, it's revenue vs profit. The $1000 is revenue, but after your expenses are paid you're left with $400 profit (if I understand your statement correctly). You would tithe according to the profit. Think of it as if it weren't your own business. The owner would pay all business expenses first, then take his own salary out of the remaining profits. Any profit left over would go back into growing the business. He would then tithe based off his salary. That's my personal opinion- who knows, some might choose to tithe based on revenue, however the problem with that could mean (especially in the case of a new or struggling business) that after taking out tithing, your left over profit margin isn't high enough to cover business expenses. Then the business has to operate at a deficit, and potentially could go under. I don't think that's God's wish.

I’m single and I’m still trying to understand the process of buying a house together without being married to the person vs. married to the person. Isn’t it the same-when you get divorced you have to sale all properties and split 50/50? If so, what difference does it make if you weren’t married?

I have seen couples purchase a house where only one persons name is on the mortgage and both are on the title, then break up. What happens when one person dies and now the surviving partner owns half a house with their dead partners family, better hope they really like you. A house bought before marriage could also raise questions as to whether it's a premarital asset or not in the event of divorce. It has the potential to complicate matters dramatically. If you are not married and feel the need to buy a house with your partner then you had better write up a contract as to percentage of contribution/ownership and update the wills, even that isn't bullet proof. Marriage adds a level of state backed guarantees when life starts throwing curveballs.
@ann-mariemeurs952
@ann-mariemeurs952 Жыл бұрын
In Australia where i live there is no difference. If you buy a home together and both of your names are on the deed then you both own the home. If your partner dies and there are no children you automatically own their share of the home. If there are children, you still get a share of it but the children will also inherit the home. The relationship has to have existed for at least 2 years and the it had to be current at the time of death.

Strange how much the followers of Dave Ramsey don’t understand how to do math. It’s not complicated to figure out so many of these questions and Dave has one answer every time. Pay the debt! You could guarantee him a 10% return and he will still say pay the debt that is at a 4% interest rate first. That’s simply incorrect but he makes his claims with such conviction that people follow for it and shut off their brains. It’s leading so many people down a bad road.
