They pay the insurance and some "minimum payment". Essentially he's getting a stipend for the truck. Yes he went into debt for the truck but they're paying for it every month. They pay insurance and a mileage per diem which is basically they take all the gas prices in the area, average the cheapest ones and pay him for 75% of his travel. @@thinkforyourself9334 so the company is paying off a car that's in his name and that's on top of them paying a salary and insurance? Why is that a terrible deal? If he looses the job he sells the car, no?

He is taking all the risk for the company. The likelihood of truck still working after paid for by the company are slim. If it was $24k, the truck already was used with miles on it and 50-60k miles a year will be lucky to get 3-4 more years life at that rate and probably is a 5-7 yr loan that they are making minimum payments on. This doesn't include it being in his name and insurance in his name. The legality of if he has a crash while working but in his personal vehicle instead of a company vehicle. That would require higher insurance (commercial) for the company instead of individuals. Maintenance and upkeep with oil changes, brakes, tires, etc... are most likely his responsibility (even time for repairs being on his time instead of paid company time). I have did both the using personal vehicle for field work and using company vehicle and having a company vehicle comes out on top even if have less money from mileage pay. The stress involved with keeping vehicle operational for 5k a month in miles so can make money the next day is also a factor people overlook unless have had to use personal vehicle for field work.

My brother drives 100K miles/year, in a company owned truck checking levels of field tanks of ag chemicals. Every year the Company gives him the old truck, one year old Chevy 4x4 w/100Kmiles and he gets a new truck for work. He drives the old truck at home for a year,

Companies cannot force you to buy a certain car or truck. They can require you HAVE a car, but they cannot require you to buy one. It was just an excuse to buy a new truck they couldn't afford.
