Just because you've been dating for a long while doesn't mean you're bound to that person. She can keep doing her thing and he can continue with his, but they can't keep being separate like this when it comes to their finances. Especially when marriage comes around. "Break up. If you do not agree on money when you are in a relationship, you definitely will not agree on money when you are in a marriage. It is a lot harder and far more expensive to leave a marriage (mostly for males who are the breadwinner). Just because you have been dating for a long time, does not mean you are bound to that person (irreconcilable differences laws- it promotes females to leave the relationship). She can keep doing her thing and he can continue with his, but they cannot keep being separate like this when it comes to their finances. This is especially when marriage comes around. Their problems will be amplified." Not really. If she is doing her own thing and he is too, they can have separate accounts and pay into a combined one and actually, this will benefit him (if he is a breadwinner). When she decides to separate, she can just keep what she earned. This actually does work, more often than does not and really, even if the marriage falls apart, it is no big deal. I would estimate that more people fall into depression because they know they do not have $ than because they lost someone.
