Having either a MasterCard or a Visa card (or pretty much any other credit card) isn't a bad thing...so long as you have *good self discipline & use it/them very sparingly & wisely!!* . If & when you buy something w/ a credit card keep it *affordable* & when the billing statement comes *pay it off in full*...or at the very least within 1-2 months...by doing that you'll find that it helps to help your credit score go up & they'll only be getting whatever the yearly fee for having the credit card is & no or *very little* interest!!...& *no added late fees!!* The problem is too many people get stupid & get themselves into a bind w/ them because they lack good common sense & self discipline...it's just as simple & easy as that.
@nicogreco71106 жыл бұрын
Paul Allison if and only if you use your card to pay for stuff you'd already pay for, and nothing more. The thing is, people rarely do this. On average people will increase spending by as little as 20% when using credit cards as opposed to paying with cash. So yeah, you get 1.5% cash back on all purchases, you don't carry a balance, but if you spend up to 20% more per month, you are coming out a loser.

LOVE THIS VIDEO!! It's SO true! My 2 cents - Everyone is saying the cost of living is so expensive and jobs dont pay enough these days.....comparing 2018 to their parents lives in the 1950's. And for some reason that is why we are all broke! When in reality the problem is everything that we finance and borrow....which our parents didnt do in the 1950's. We finance cell phones with Verizon, tv's and furniture with Rent-A-Center, cars with Ford motor credit, education with Sallie Mae, cosmetic surgery with Care Credit, vacations on Visa/mastercard, clothes on the JC Penny credit card, engagement rings with Kay. This is why people are broke, and we normalize it as if it's just part of life.
@CuteAnimeGirl6 жыл бұрын
Their wages were adjusted for inflation and productivity though and they bought houses before prices ballooned, so they made out like bandits. We are all starting from 0 here, after the prices of everything are all all time highs, and if you know anything about stocks you DO NOT buy things at at time high, you wait for them to crash and hit the bottom. However we are waiting for this to happen, and that will not happen until we have another great depression to restart the cycle. The buying things on credit/debt started with the boomers too, they could buy things on all sorts of credit and simply declare bankruptcy and do it all again. Look back to them and see that they raised their kids to adopt these same spending habits. However, the young ones are getting wiser in some ways (not being as materialistic) but they made mistakes like getting student loans because they thought good debt existed.

Not to mention that your average family in the 50's lived in a 1000sq foot 2 bedroom 1 bath house, with no ac, and had no cell phone bills no cable bills no internet bills, Mom stayed at home all day because Dad took the 1 car they had to work. You can absolutely still live like THAT on 1 salary today, it's just people don't want to.
@CuteAnimeGirl6 жыл бұрын
well yes and no, in the midwest it's possible but in most desirable places to live extra sacrifices will have to be made for a 50's lifestyle. I would say it's nearly a requirement for the woman to work these days to feel comfortable at least. Add kids in the equation and that's where it gets murky, I can't imagine trying to retire if you have kids as a millenial, the costs are far too high now. I already made the decision to have no kids or at most have 1 if I get a really good job at some point (unlikely my salary will go above 50k anytime soon, I would only have kids if I made at least 70k a year).

Yes...well my parents never borrowed because their was NO Credit available for working people, except possibly to buy a house with a 25% or more down payment. Everything else we bought was USED and paid for via cash payment in full upfront, including cars, clothing, even shoes. We had one landline phone and went camping on vacations. Since most people lived this way, we thought it was pretty normal. Would our parents or grandparents have been this frugal if easy credit were available? I doubt it, I don’t think it was motivated by good money management principles, it was necessity...no one would lend to them.

I’m glad I learned about minimalism at my young age of 20. I have money and I intend on keeping it and multiplying it...
@chrisbellamy71454 жыл бұрын
You'll be happier that's for sure. Growing up me and my friends were always dirt broke, with no vision for ever being anything remotely resembling middle class, but none of us ever got credit cards or loans because we knew we knew nothing about finances, and from that perspective it was financial suicide. We still found ways to enjoy life. I worked at 7/11 and McDonald's and all the middle class people that came in all those years were just the most miserable toxic people. I could never really hate them, only pity them because of how psycho stupid they were. I only had to put up with them for 5 minutes, they had to live with themselves all day every day. My whole life I've heard how miserable the middle class are. This is Canada, I don't imagine it's much better in the US. I always looked down on the rich, I never wanted to be a millionaire. But reading between Dave's lines I understand now that middle class is not an option. When you decide you want more than to just be poor the only option is to eventually be rich. Minimalism, F. I. R. E., savings, investments, getting rich is just living poor but making informed long term decisions with money.

@@badgiles not even remotely close. Some of Jesus's closest friends were rich: Lazarus, Joseph of Aremathia, and Nicodemus were all wealthy. Proverbs 21:20, There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man swallows it up." (NASB) you've probably heard this verse, "Then He said to them, 'Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions." (Luke 12:15) however so you know the context? My title of the story is "'Jesus rebuke the socialist," and here's why, "Someone in the crowd said to Him, 'Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.' But He said to him, 'Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?' Then He said to them, 'Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.'" (Luke 12:13-15 NASB) Jesus is rebuking the poor guy for complaining about income inequality. Socialism is at best what you get when Satan twists our godly desire to help people with greed and envy, or at worst it's the wholesale rejection of God to embrace our sinful desires of greed and envy. Either way it's a sinful ideology condemned by the Bible.

My son is 12, in 6th grade. I wasn't pleased when he told me recently that not one, but two of his teachers have already mentioned to the kids how they'll need student loans to go to college. Well, ok. Then my son told me he spoke up to one and said, "But loans are bad!" and the teacher told him 'not to say such things'. Then I was REALLY not pleased! I told my son to feel free to nicely suggest they look up DR, if the subject comes up again and he's chastised for speaking against student loans. I told him if the teacher's upset by that, they can feel free to give me a call! So sad to hear they're already pushing student loans on 6th graders. A mix of sad and proud to realize my 12 yo is smarter about this than some of his teachers when it comes to finances.

The passion is real!! I've been telling those that listen and those that don't about Dave. Only the debt sharks can hate Dave his advice is leaving them hungry. Just think about this, if you pay even one late fee to a credit card you lost $25-30 or more. Now imagine people that have let's say 6k in debt and that's not even that much, if you make a minimum payment of $250 and that $250 you pay $200 towards principal and $50 in interest. With that you'll end up paying it back in 30 months a $6000 load will cost you $7500 !! If you do that then you'll be giving $1500 away in less then 2 years. That's crazy !

IceArdor And if you cant predict the future, why would you risk financing a car that will plummet in value? If you lose your job or get an unexpected bill for something, you won’t be able to afford those payments anymore and just build up debt. Why would you wanna be paying hundreds of dollars every single month for 5 years on a car, that sounds miserable
@appleiphone695 жыл бұрын
I am on paper rich, 418k household income. but I don’t spend that way. I buy a moderately priced new car because I need to be at work when I need to be at work. I put 20-25% down and pay it off in 48 months. I maintain my vehicle very well and drive it for 160k miles. My goal is to have the lowest cost per mile possible. ( purchase price + insurance + gas + maintenance)/miles. I know I could afford more car if I wanted to. I get more satisfaction seeing my 401k & 529 plans grow.
