HeartSupport - Music to Improve Your Mindset

Therapist analyzes the lyrics of Nate by NF to discuss the value of witnessing the pain of our inner child. So often we feel like we have to fix or solve, but this song points to a truth that often what our hurt inner child needs is a witness!

Nate got the idea for this song from a therapy session. The therapist had him write a letter to his younger self
@brysonwilliams2904
@brysonwilliams2904 23 күн бұрын
Nah it actually wasn’t a letter, he said in an interview it was an exercise during his therapy sessions where his therapist would put a chair in front of him and told him to imagine his younger self sitting across from him and to say what he would say to himself as a kid. That’s why when he performs the song he performs it sitting on a chair facing an empty chair to represent the real lived experience of the therapy exercise and speaking to his inner child

Wow , i have never been a fan of therapist , I always disliked them because I always told myself “what do they know , they don’t know how feel or felt , they weren’t there thru my traumas “ I always pictured therapist to be people who come from great successful families and grew up with all the love and support and affection, and I guess I have always been envious of them. But listening to you WOW! I love how you get things you are amazing and are right on point about everything, I have found myself writing down quotes of yours from NF REACTIONS, which is the only reactions I watch as a 41 year old man , NF is something else and I love your reactions to him and they way you dissect him is awesome , thank you

Just as many people who go into oncology are those who survived cancer as children, many of those who go into therapy are those who had therapy as youths or young adults. Whether that is a good thing depends a lot on whether they actually addressed their issues and how well they observed the process in themselves. NF would probably make a good therapist because he is a good self-observer, but really his current ministry is much more important.

I've always had very bad experiences with therapist's they always seemed to try to manipulate me, I grew up in group homes so all the therapists I saw were state funded distant "know it all's" who were just condescending dicks overall. As an adult tho I've learned that private practice therapists are generally the way to go especially the ones that don't charge an arm and a leg, as they seem to be much more involved in your actual well-being.

I read a comment on this song once that mentioned that the lyric where he tells his younger self, "I'll be here for you if you need somwone to listen" can also show that he survives the trauma. He doesn't give in to suicide. He grows up and doesn't give up. I thought that was super cool.

Let Me Go next plsssss it's such a good song (talking to/about his balloons controlling him, the balloons echo in the background at parts of the song). It's rly depressing but gives you a good idea of what went on in his mind before he let go of his balloons and shopping cart in hope! Edit: OR DO JUST LIKE YOU!!! I can relate with this song so much and I suffer with abandonment, not trusting people and afraid of people leaving and doing it again and everything else
@HeartSupport
@HeartSupport 22 күн бұрын
From Micro: @Paul_TheOutcast Being abandoned by someone you love definitely leaves a unique type of wound on your heart. When you love and trust someone, the thought of them stepping away from you is just not something you want to consider. When it happens, it's usually such a shock and brutal heartbreak. Being left alone, with no possibility to keep on sharing life with them, can make you start wondering if they left because of you, or if because they didn't love you enough. It's hard to be confronted to these types of thoughts, questions, doubts, and it makes sense that this experience has forged a fear in you, a fear of the same scenario repeating itself if you were to trust someone again. For giving trust is taking a risk - on one side the risk of being beautifully loved in return, but on the other side the risk of being hurt and disappointed. It's understandable to suffer with abandonment if that has been a part of your story already. You carry the memory of what happened, you know how much it hurts, and you don't want to feel it all over again with someone else. There are wounds that are so deep that it feels like even just a slight event could reopen it even deeper. With those fears, and in light of your story especially, it's okay to take the time you need to trust others with yourself. You've felt hurt and betrayed, and it will certainly take time to overcome those fears little by little, by experimenting strong and healthy relationships with others. You are aware of those fears, you are able to name it and you know why it's there - which is already a huge strength, and a first step towards healing those wounds, at your own pace. :heart: -Marie-Anne, Heartsupport Staff

@HeartSupport yeah exactly and I've been wondering if it's me all this time and trusting people is my biggest issue even though I'm trying to solve after recent events with people that I've cut out of my life. I have no show people that they can't take me for granted and walk over me after the majority of my life that's what people have done

i thought i was ready to listen to this song but here i sit, wiping the tears away one of the things they say in alcoholics anonymous is that your story is your own but you'll see glimpses of you own story in the story of everyone else in the program, and it's true we can be pretty damaged and jaded emotionally, but they point that fact out to us to let us know that it's our story we're living, but we're not alone every person in those rooms has lived a portion of your life and it goes back to being witnessed to being heard to knowing someone else knows what you went through to know someone else knows what you're feeling, and what you felt

Love your heartfelt reactions to Nate and the contagious enthusiasm during each song. I think it's poignant that instead of trying to avoid the trauma and hardships that he knows is coming, like most stories revolving around "time travel," he's simply wanting to supply a level of preparedness and wisdom to his younger self, so that just maybe (just maybe) he won't take things quite as hard as he did in his original reality. The question I ponder is this, With this seemingly small level of foreshadowing, he still can't be sure whether his "self heads-up" will have the desired effect or completely derail where he ends up. Will the rest of his decisions be subject to " the butterfly effect?" Hmmm?

I've always thought there was something fundamentally wrong with me because I've always had unbearable struggles trying to function and navigate life in a "normal" way. Figured out in my mid-late 30s that I'm autistic and bipolar. Now the ways I'm different make sense and I'm learning that I'm not broken or malformed, just a bit different and that's okay.

There's a song from a melodic death metal/ band that I think would be great to hear your interpretation of it. The band is Fleshgod Apocalypse & the song is The Forsaking, it's a mixture of death metal with classical music, along with a ballet performance for the music video. Along with the lyrics the whole package is heart wrenching.
