Love the video! Also there actually IS a bathroom in this game, or at least a destroyed one. In the new doom match map Sanctum Sanctorum, there is a floating toilet in the debris. If you go through the portal in the sky in like the main city part outside, you'll see a floating toilet near a bunch of other floating debris that's floating in purple space. Sorry if it's confusing where to find it, but it is definitely there because I was shooting at it as Star Lord seeing if it would break or not lol.

if anyone is curious on where the "bathroom" is in doom match, it's on the left side of the map/near the shop portal right behind a bounce pad and while yeah it's just a toilet floating you can shit in it so it counts the only issue is that you have to put your all into one jump so you can shit on as it's deceptively hard to actually get on the shitter to begin with so proceed with caution

TBH I don't know why Shin Shibuya would have visible restrooms. It's not like many cities are designed with entire sections of restrooms for public use -- "public use" restrooms are almost always site specific, the beach or public park. But if you walk down San Francisco, you're not going to come across many restrooms (they have existed and do on the Embarcadero, but even they are "hidden" away.) So given that Shin Shibuya basically looks like a downtown city street, it's the buildings themselves would have the bathrooms. Wakanda and Yggadrasil are pretty obvious, and that just leaves Midtown which is New York.

I once spent an entire afternoon flying around Gotham in Arkham Knight because my brain couldn’t accept that Gotham City, New Jersey had no schools whatsoever

@ Arkham Knight is set throughout Gotham’s three main islands, two of which have what seemed to be pretty expansive residential areas, both for regular houses as well as apartments. Without any schools within those sections, it’d mean that a huge percentage of all children in Gotham would have to cross one of (I think) five bridges outside of the islands to get to school, and that honestly just seems like a severe miscalculation in public planning

No matter if it’s a good decision or not, I do think not having bathrooms is a conscious decision the map and art team made. So somewhere, there was a meeting where it’s like: “Ok, how do we make a bath room that a raccoon and a hulk can both use?” “Actually let’s just not make any toilets at all”

Another insanely good video, go piss girl killed me lmfao Immersion / worldbuilding (if you can call it that) design is one of, if not the most interesting parts of gamedev imo, paying attention to the choices made by the devs is also probably the most fun part of the post-first-playthrough play. (The game where I enjoyed it the most is horizon zero dawn, with its whole reason for the robots thats revealed late game which makes you appreciate the worldbuilding way more. It also integrated voice logs / visages to be an actual interesting immersion device which is rare lol)

One of my favorite things to do in games is actually look around the map. I spent a good chunk of time looking thru the new Midtown map in Rivals trying to find references to other characters. There’s a lot in the playable area, in the decorative backgrounds, in the dialogue even. The story the game is telling is very much present. And I like that it’s not so in your face for those who want to just play the game, but it’s not so sparse that those who go looking for it won’t be dissatisfied

The one problem I have with the maps (excluding gameplay) is they don’t feel like real places. They feel like an area to fight, and not something that exists without that purpose. Possibly because I destroy half of the entire landscape in one match, and then the next it’s completely intact like they don’t care if anything gets any damage and it’s just somewhere to fight.

There is nothing that annoys me more than when a room has no doors or the layout makes me ask "ok, I had to use my 'player-character' powers to get here. . . how is the normal NPC supposed to access this area?" Even something as small as a double jump over a ledge that leads to a door to a room without any other doors. Or when a building has a door on one side of the wall but not on the other where the door would lead.

Neat addendum to your mise-en-scène appreciation: the axe on yggdrasil's path is sentient and if you walk into the lower section of the attacker spawn (right when facing the chariot from spawn) you can see it excitedly smashing around in a containment field before the round begins, whereupon it goes to the Goat-pulled chariot.

In online PvP games, it's rare to see this kind of environmental depth, but while exploring, I never really wondered where people sleep or where they go to the bathroom. I guess it's because, even in superhero movies, these topics aren't really in focus-aside from a few joke dialogues. Anyway, nice video!

Back when I was a TF2 player after thousands of hours played, in a day 2here my internet went out I decided to look around the maps I spent my whole day exploring the maps I played for hours everyday and noticing so many details, so many cool little things that I never crossed my radar before It is crazy you can live in an enviroment so much and not know much about it

I saw the bedroom setup while wandering in doom match and went looking for other regular mundane house rooms in the sanctum. Found the otherwise-oddly-bare kitchen with the tentacles chained in the fridge, the connecting dining room setup, and the.. dungeons?? on the other side of it. Bats having a little bed and a plushie in the circular sort of foyer stairs room is great. There's a sort of wacky punching bag setup at the top of, like, i guess a tower in the middle of a room elsewhere, and multiple rooms that look like they should be sort of libraries or studies, but with only empty bookshelves (..or there's only one of those and the looping halls and portals pranked me). And of course the funky relic display room at the top of the sanctum is necessary for every self-respecting sanctum owner to include. But looking closer at all the details made me realize exactly what felt so wrong about the inside of that building, because it definitely wasn't just the crazy layout or eternally looping staircase or portals all over the place, it's that the room Bats is in is the only one that looks lived-in, and even then he's a ghost lol. It's a weird shape, sure, but it's the only room that makes total sense to me. In context of the rest of the house, even the normal-ish bedroom setup just looks like it's been barely touched by whatever's going on with the rest of it. But then again, the sanctum area of the map feeling wrong in so many ways was probably what they were going for. It feels abandoned without just being run-down, and like we shouldn't be there, heroes or not. And you get the reason why in your face as you see any of the parts that are torn up by dimensional shenanigans. But there's also no bathroom (anymore), so that'd be my first reason not to stay.
