I can’t speak for everyone but I think your damn near 600,000 subscribers would agree that you are doing it right. Not everyone will agree with everything you do all the time but by and large your content is what keeps people informed and entertained in this industry. YOU alone got be back into collecting knives early last year. Your video of the top 50 knives of all time is still a list I consult when considering what knife I should buy next. Your unabashed joy for the interesting and your no nonsense candor about things you don’t find appealing is what we all love and enjoy seeing so as long as that keeps happening, the companies be damned and we will always be here to watch and learn and probably laugh! Thanks MC

I wonder if the increase in “nothing we haven’t seen before” new releases is related to the increasing number of new people in the hobby that might not be interested in the wilder designs yet. They are shopping for plain and practical while others are looking for fun and freaky.
@metal_complex
@metal_complex 4 күн бұрын
The problem is that "plain and practical" is the overwhelming majority. There is FAR MORE of that stuff than we need as a whole community. It's simple, inexpensive and unimaginative even if it's practical. We just don't need 27 variations of the bugout or the rat.

It is the law of numbers. Make enough different items and one will surely appeal to the masses. These large knife companies have huge overhead and lots of employees and cannot depend on preorders and sold out prior to release like custom companies. The plus side is that every year we get the option to buy a super great knife at ridiculous clearance prices because they it did not sell well. Thanks always for the content!

Homie, chiiillllllll. These companies, at this juncture, should know what you think would be interesting enough to make a video on. That said, I'm not sure why you feel the need to even address it. I'm not in any way being rude, I just don't think it was necessary. The videos you make are great because you want to make them and that's what keeps us coming back. I went from a Walmart knife guy to ordering my first somewhat premium knife. I got the manix 2 in S110v with the blurple scales. I plan on exchanging those though lol. What I'm trying to say is, keep doing what you do with no regrets. Your message is getting out to people that would never have considered dropping that kind of coin. I'm also learning much more about blade steels and that fascinates me.

I feel like the knife industry is almost getting saturated by the inexpensive knife brands churning out a lot of low end knives. I also feel like the knife industry has almost reached it's zenith. There are some really amazing knives being made with really nice materials and with such amazing precision. Really, I wonder what could be next in the industry. Also, I heard Ben Peterson say the other day that people have been getting laid off from their jobs in the knife industry too which makes me wonder again where things are going to go. It's pretty cool that your channel has done well enough that these guys are sending you knives and they know that their products may get noticed through your channel. That's some cheap advertising for them to access a ton of people. I would like to see all of the cast off knives set side by side just to see them LoL. I bet keeping track of all the stuff that needs shipping is crazy too. Keep it up you do a good job. 👍👍

Amen. Several decent companies out there pushing new model after new model out and it can get pretty boring. I enjoy companies with just a few models that have taken the time to refine those models, it speaks volumes compared to someone just trying to sell you ok the "newest and greatest" thing.

A lot of the knives I prefer are what others would consider boring. I'm not into the pretentious, crazy or weird just because they have a new lock design or a unique blade shape. I like serviceable knives with common and useful shapes and textures...and a lot of my collection are "budget blades" as I'm not afraid to carry and use them...and potentially lose them. I have over 50 knives in my collection and all but 6 of them were under $100.
@metal_complex
@metal_complex 4 күн бұрын
That's all completely fine. My issue is that the knife world already has enough of these designs. Dozens of identical, basic designs come out weekly. Many of them sit at retailers because people already have 10 identical knives in their collections. I am uninterested in assisting these companies with moving said duplicates when nobody wants them.

Nah I enjoyed the slight rant. I was into knives back in the 70's as a kid, even made my own, and even early in my career where I depended on the two knives I always carried, but then I changed jobs, and worked in a secure facility for decades and traveled a lot, so I stopped EDC. Sure if I went out hunting, I'd have my knife, but that was a little different. Now that I retired, I got back into knives just as the scene was exploding, so I get it. I've had to slap my own hand to keep from making some purchases, and a couple of my collection I probably wouldn't buy again, and yet, I'm not ready to sell them either. Someone had to do all the work to design and manufacture them and I paid what I thought was a fair price, so... my grandkids will probably inherit them.

@Dont_Poke_The_Bear
@Dont_Poke_The_Bear 3 күн бұрын
Honestly, if I am watching a review, I am looking for the negatives. At the point I am looking at reviews, that item has made it to my mental que to buy, I want to see the reasons NOT to buy. As far as the market being flooded with uninteresting items, it cuts both ways... The unboxing, reviews and social media stuff feeds the hype around an item, good or bad, while also creating a false sense of market draw in the mind of companies that they need to make more stuff. One of the best example of this... SPRINT RUNS. Scarcity and hype generates the perception of "good business practices". In actuality, all it does is piss off people who want product improved tools and they move onto other companies who will produce what they want.
