I know everybody is on here giving you advice on how to weld and you are prob getting tired of it. So... heres some advice on welding: 1) pull the fert buggy into an area where you have decent sunlight. 2) using your cellphone, take several pictures of the crack on the buggy. 3) send the aforementioned pictures to your neighbor, Ned ( everybody has a Ned), who is a much better welder than you because he breaks things all the time. 4) tell Ned that your dad has just stocked the fridge with beers from many lands. Be very clear to Ned that the repair of the fert cart will precipitate the consumption of many, if not all the beers from many lands 5) after hanging up the phone, you will hear Neds 20 year old pickup truck screeching to a halt in your driveway. Ned, his welding hood, his dog (Rufus), and half a can of Genesee will emerge from the truck. 6) after spitting a bunch of tobacco on your shop floor, Ned will don his hood, say, " where did you put the damn side grinder?", and immediately fix you problem 7) While Ned is putting his tools back into his pickup and yelling for Rufus to stop peeing in the shop, you MUST ( and this is very important), have a cold beer waiting to hand to him before the creaky door to the pickup slams shut. 8) Of course, since it is now raining, you are obligated to sit and drink the beers from many lands with Ned as he regales you with tales of why his mother in law hates him. Also, your dad should be prepared to answer the all important question from Ned, " How the hell do you rate a new jacket from the seed rep when all that cheap SOB gave me was a hat and two pens that dont work?" 9) at this point, your empty beer can receptacle will be full and if you can find your way back to the house and Rufus can drive Ned back to his house, you will have had a great farming day

If you drill a hole at the end of the crack before welding and then plug the small hole while welding it'll help relieve the stress at the end of the crack and your weld will be even stronger..

How long has it been in your family, how did it start? Did it start small and then more acreage added? Also, very interested in the cattle/herd. How did your family get started with cattle? On future similar projects you need to drill a hole at the end of the crack. This will stop the crack from continuing. Great vid and channel.

I know you're just wanting more advice on your welding project, next time use a grinder to V the crack out then weld . Do the same process on the other side . Next time you are in town buy some metal ( 6"× 12" ) to plate over your repair . Good videos !

Next crack weld repair, drill a small hole 1/8 " or so where the crack ends, then weld right over the drilled hole this will stop the crack from continuing to form. As for checking oil I had a carb float valve stick on a gas engine filled the crankcase with gasoline, would have lost that engine if not checked. thanks for the vids!

Great video, nice welds! I agree with the 'ear plug' suggest when welding the way you were Cole. I know no one's perfect but it strikes me you be blessed to have the Father you have - his sense of humor is TOPS. Me thinks I know where you got your sense of humor. Not a bad looking weld. You are right about needing a bigger piece of flat, about a foot bigger. Preheating the crack is a must too before you weld. You can do it later when you have more time. Good vid. Peace.

You need to cut 2 do an plates out of flat plate steel. Wield 1 inside and 1 outside of the frame after you run a bead in the crack and grind it down

I can see why well a reason as to why it cracked/broke. When u were backing it into the barn the rear tire was barely touching the ground. All the weight is on the tongue of the spreader. Thts just my impression/opinion.

A piece about 6- 8 inches shaped in a dimond elongated with an elongated whole is the correct way repair something like that. The design of the patch should normally last the life of the machine. I have done a lot of welding on our own farms and others and watched engineers and other welders repair etc. The patch should be equal width or better thannparent metal on the job.
