Losing close does not make you a top 10 team..... it is disgrace to the actual championship caliber BSU teams to overhype this team. Like seriously - how old are you? You want to be taken seriously for a 3 point loss in Autzen? Bruh, do you realize the last time BSU played in Autzen they led 32-7 in the 4th against a top 10 Oregon - obviously won that game, ranked top 3 in offense, went undefeated and didnt even make a FREAKING BOWL GAME..... Perception is reality. Just like losing early in the season is less damaging to a team’s ranking than losing late. Where you start in these CFP rankings do matter because if you manage to get in with one loss and when that loss happened it could determine if you have home field advantage or not in the first round.

For teams like Indiana, being ranked in this Playoff ranking altogether was the whole point of expanding the thing. When you can't compare apples to apples and give their record the credit they think they deserve, you put them in and now they have the opportunity to shove it down the committee's throat or prove the committee right. They should use that ranking as a chip on their shoulders, but that's where the grievances should end until they win the head-to-heads.

It's simple.. The issue isn't the ranking. The issue isn't strength of scheduling. The issue isn't personal bias. The issue is one thing and one thing alone... That they refuse to stop giving a top 4 "bye" game. A true playoff does not give favors to ANY team, it is a binary set up, and subsequent reduction in teams through bracketed play down to the final 2. By having 12 teams, with automatic bids, you intentionally create scenarios for favorable treatment and scandal. It's not good for the sport, and it needs to stop.

Still makes me shake my head that they do not have the same playoff system as the lower divisions. One of the reasons "they" throw out is the extra games take away from their studies. Unless you want to suggest that the AP rankings are completely useless across the entire season (I wouldn't necessarily disagree), those are all still top 25 wins. As for Georgia Tech and BC, their own websites show those games as Georgia Tech vs #10 Florida State and Boston College @ #10 Florida State, respectively, so yeah, they're BOTH claiming Top 10 wins, as they damn well should. Ohio State would NEVER do such a thing. No, their loss at #1 Oregon still shows as a loss at #3 Oregon. Their win at #7 (sticking with the AP) Penn State still shows as Ohio State at #3 Penn State.

I disagree. If you have four teams worthy, so be it. B10, if predictions hold true, will have a 12-0 Oregon, and three 11-1 teams. OSU only loss is to number 1 on road by 1 point, IU only loss will be on the road to number 2 , PSU only loss is to number 2 by 1 score. Cuz it comes off as complete candyland pixie magic fairy dust for how what that ranking actually means. Like per ESPN SOS, BYU ranks #63 and Miami ranks #46. Ok - how does this make sense? BYU has played more and higher ranked opponents to date; BYU's opponents have gone 34-38, Miami's opponents have gone 38-39. If you take FCS teams out of their schedules BYU's opponents have gone 32-31, and Miami's have gone 33-36. How is Miami's schedule tougher? And how in the world is 17 spots difference harder to justify the SOS rank? We use this metric all the time, but imo NOBODY even knows what it actually measures anymore......

Literally no other sport in the world has the problems of FBS DIvision 1 college fotoball for selection of teams, and its in large part because they actually have legitimate, consistent and easy to understand metrics for selection. Failure to provide the necessary transparency leads me to believe the metric is complete total bs used entirely for the purpose of ensuring increased favorability of larger market teams for selection. This is a problem - you wanna run this sport as a business - this practice is legally speaking anti-competitive behavior and fraud. And considering that this particular league has been sued twice in the last 25 years FEDERALLY and CRIMINALLY for these kinds of violations that does not inspire confidence in the system.

The bigger the playoff, the more likely smaller schools with good records are to get a chance to show if they can beat the juggernauts or not. Because a 1-loss boise state team isn't getting into a 4 team playoff over a 1-loss blue-blood program like Alabama. Both teams earned it. Let them have a chance.

At the end of the season, the rankings will basically only matter for spots 5 through 12. Since Miami just lost and with their schedule, they will potentially have to win the ACC title game to get in. Same thing with SMU. SMU doesn't have the respect to get in without winning their conference title game, especially with the close loss to BYU. I would say that Indiana has to win out and even if it looses the Big Ten title game, Indiana would still get in at 12 - 1, as the cinderella team. We might see a few levels of favoritism with one or two 2 loss teams getting in when a 1 loss team feels like they were left. But, the only way to guarantee your ticket is winning your conference title game of the 4 conferences.
