What antimnemetics division. We have a mnemetics division, but no one has ever heard of an anti-mnemetics division.

So far, Marion seems like a fu***ng badass

I think you have a good point. The way I see it is that Marion is probably also very good at compartmentalization being in her position. This would allow her to better insulate her immediate awareness against thinking about it directly. The first thing she said was regarding the plan. It could be that she is able to focus solely on that enough to buy her time before returning to full awareness. The hitting her head part probably helps with that as well. So the entity is aware of her, but more has a foggy impression of her, much like how she sees the entity. Therefore, it attacks at the boundaries around her, that being Kim, and tries to use him to kill her.

The way I kinda think about how Marion can survive is like, by gaining knowledge of the scp without immediately getting killed by it, she also gets just a tiny bit of knowledge on how to protect herself. It's like if you encounter a dangerous animal like a tiger, if you see it before it sees you, you gain that tiny bit of an advantage that might allow you to survive

That brief little hint at Marion potentially forgetting something from the chamber because she inhaled some of the amnestics on the way out....

I freaking love this stuff so much. It's my absolute favorite kind of fiction. The whole idea that monsters can take the shape of ideas or concepts or even patterns of thought. Its wild and fascinating and I think, very well put together in this book. This is the kind of creative thinking that gets me excited to read fiction. People that come up with this kind of thing are the kings of horror- there is so much derivative redundant bullcrap in the mainstream that is absolutely put to shame by the level of intrigue and haunting situations presented in this book.

The idea of isolated room full of information, notes, past attempts and a world threatening enigma to solve would alone make for an insanely interesting book, game or movie. How I envision it is that it should be either one person talking to themself, maybe with past recordings as well, or two people who just don’t share the kind of relationship one would hope to have with person they spend weekd with in isolation. Then, it would just be weeks of constant light, no beds, no shower, and emergency rations. Shifting through bookshelf full of written notes, 4 hour lectures someone prepped and recorded, and exobytes of raw data, amounts so wast they could never even note five second a describtion for eatch terabyte before running out of food. So every day you work up a plan, write code to query the data needed to narrow down the wast amount of information, and piece by piece build models you then test with the data. There are tens of thousands of lines of previous code like this. Someone before you even wrote up full documentation for the library they wrote. Problem for writing this book would obviously be creating the mystery. How could all these very competent people fail to even find the right path? If the previous occupants figured out the general picture, they could probably summarise the general shape of things in few pages of notes. After that its not a mystery, just some rather tidious datascience and computationalal analysis. There needs to be complete lack of understanding in the most macro of levels.

I think about the entity perceiving you as like, an old internet connection. If you're outside of the room when you perceive it, you're connected to the SCP already and it knows immediately and can kill you. If you're inside the room, it's almost like a faraday cage for ideas, so you aren't connected to it at all. Once you exit, you (as a device) take some time to reconnect to the entity (as a network), like you'd restarted your modem and it takes a minute or two to actually get all the connections up and running. Marion has only enough time to execute her idea as it takes the network to detect her connection, and I'd guess the crazy amount of drug cocktails she's taking may also slow that process down somehow.

Weekly comment asking for SCP-610: The Flesh That Hates... but also I love this book, I love that everything leading up to THIS was just a way to onboard people slowly to some interesting ideas, and then cranks it all the way up with a world ending threat. Thank you for introducing me to this book! Also, thank you for fixing the playlist! I appreciate you (J&V... &co?) reading comments!

I was a little disappointed when I realized this was one of those huge, Avengers-level apocalypse stories, because I’m really just over them. I’m gonna stick it out with this one, though, because I love the SCP universe and this author seems to be putting a good spin on the concept.
