Hate it that the lake is gone. Thanks for this. Brings back great memories! I used to slay crappie there back in my college years. :(

@@MarkNeubauer-v3s I really don’t get it . Thousands o fish killed and zero heard from animal rights groups. If they are going to dredge etc , that can be done from a barge . Could it be they intend to take the dam out as they are doing all over the country ?

It's more about bait placement then bait preference and this is why I use jigs almost exclusively. You end up catching more because you can pitch more locations without having to transport bait and replace a bait on the hook any time you get a bite. You can also vary retrieve speeds and tight line or use a float. Jigs are just way cheaper, way more convenient to transport, and way more versatile, as you can vary colors, sizes, and shapes to see what gets the best reaction. The only time I find live minnows to be preferable is when crappie are slow under clear skies with clear water and high pressure. Even then, you need small baits and probably won't be able to get minnows small enough to tempt finicky crappie that aren't much in the mood. I generally switch to the Berkeley Gulp 1" smelt on a 1/64 or 1/32 micro jig head in those situations.
@gillgetter3004Ай бұрын
I agree 👍 I haven’t used live minnows since many years ago. At that time we could get emerald shiners that were small , but were hard to keep alive very sensitive. Now it’s mostly fat head minnows which are very hardy and easy to keep alive etc. but unless the fish are active they don’t seem to like them much.
