SO. This video, at least for the standards of my channel, is absolutely exploding in popularity. I just wanted to make a statement because the amount of love and support that’s been flowing in the last 9 days has been incredible if not a bit overwhelming 😅. First of all thank you to everyone for watching this video! If you enjoyed it so much that you sent it to a friend or family member or whoever else, thank you so much for helping it grow. If you liked the video, thank you. If you subscribed after watching the video, thank you. Hell, if you all you did was watch it from start to finish, THANK YOU. Second, I can NOT promise that my next video will be as good as this one or better. I’m starting to feel like there was maybe a “lightning in a bottle” captured here that i doubt I could manage a second time. I also can’t promise that my next video will be coming soon. In the 9 days that this video has been public, I haven’t even STARTED production on a next project. The reason I haven’t tried to pursue being a content creator full time is because my passion to create seems to come in bursts that I really have no control over. What I CAN say however is that this most likely will NOT be my LAST video. I’ve been having a bit of fun making these, and I’ve enjoyed watching my channel build up a library of completed projects. TL;DR: THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT, DONT EXPECT MUCH FROM ME, SEE YOU NEXT TIME.

Personally the thing that made me really like Ouran as an adult was when I read the manga and there was I think (my memory is blurry) an author's note for a spring arc or something, where she flat out states "Yeah, I know, we started in the spring, if it's spring again that would mean the senpais graduated - I don't care, I wanted to do another spring arc." That attitude towards writing it always made the story stand out. Because the continuity from a time standpoint doesn't matter, what matters is the individual changes the characters go through during those events; they can go through as many springs and winters as they want as long as it doesn't make the characterization inconsistent, and it doesn't.

I remember back when the series was released in like 2006-2008, the manga was still partway through being done and Bisco Hatori was on a short hiatus I think (I could be mixing that up with HunterXHunter's mangaka instead). So, they probably only had enough material for 1 season and didn't want to give it the FMA first series treatment. Right now I'd love there to be a remake like what Fruits Basket got and the story expanded to include the rest of the manga series.

Awesome video! Ouran badly needs the Fruits Basket reboot treatment. Just like original Fruits Basket anime, the Ouran anime is iconic but only scratches the surface of what the manga had in store. I would absolutely love to see a reboot where they have enough episodes to show all the characters' arcs in full. The twin's full arc is fantastic and the anime didn't have enough time to even begin Tamaki's manga arc. Regardless, the Ouran anime is an absolute classic and your video did a great job conveying what makes it so loved to this day. For real though, if you want to see more of the twins and other ways Bisco Hatori subverts the genre then the manga is extremely worth checking out.

I’m in the same boat as you. I tell people all the time that I think Ouran is one of the best, well-written anime ever created and usually people will just laugh. But sometimes people are like no I see what you mean. This show has the most wonderful ways to subvert expectations and peel away layers of itself to show the depth of its characters and their emotions as well as why they express themselves in the way they do. For me the character that blew me away the most was Tamaki and how he genuinely does want to make everyone around him happy. In the beginnings of the show, it seems as if its built around his narcissism, but as the show develops you see his actions and learn about his backstory, you learn that “wow, this guy just wants to make people happy no matter the lengths.” I’m a Certified Tamaki Lover, I could go on and on about him for eternity lol

I love the parallels between Tamaki and Haruhi's backstories. They're both essentially about the ways that their absent/ill parents have produced parentified children, but with Haruhi it manifests as her taking it upon herself to meet people's material needs (doing all the household chores, shopping for the Host Club, etc.) and with Tamaki, it's the emotional needs (taking care of his mother, always going above and beyond to make everyone happy). They're too willing to sacrifice their own needs for everyone else, and it's only within the found family of the Host Club that they can truly be themselves.

It almost seemed like they weren’t planning for a second season. It’s weird because the anime strictly followed the manga all the way until the school festival portion. Tamaki had no plans of leaving to France at the time, and the girl he was supposed to marry, Eclair, never existed. The manga’s worth a read, though! It’s ~80 chapters, and it handles the complexity of the main characters really well along with their bonds/growth. And the ending was done beautifully. Hands down, best shoujo manga I ever read.

I feel like another layer of the twins’ story is that they are codependent on each other. Not only do they want to look alike so ppl truly see what makes them different, but because they only had each other. Being an identical twin is inherent to what makes them them. Yet they have a hard time grappling that they can be an individual yet also the other twins’ brother. They’re not quite ready to let go of that yet. It eventually happens in the manga that hikaru dyes his hair so they’re very easy to tell apart. Yet this happens after a lot more character growth. They realize they can be different from each other and grow to be different ppl, whilst still loving each other and having their bond. They can acknowledge that they’re twins but not the same person. It’s also a way of showing they’re more settled in their identities. They feel more comfortable showing that they’re different. At least, that’s how I interpret it.

I wonder if its because the anime is finally on a specific streaming service 👀 And I also wonder if all of us binging the anime on said streaming service would let them know how badly we want a second season (or a reboot, idk I'd be happy with anything at this point) There's nothing quiet like OHSHC. Ouran has an insane amount of heart, and always handled it in such a warm, poignant, and organic way. The charm was how warm and real the character interaction and development felt, and you could _feel_ the growing affection and bonds they had as people grow. They have very human and familiar worries in beyond their silly "rich people vs. commoner common sense" gags, and it's great. The show is basically Haruhi humanizing them in a way no one else bothered, giving them the kind of love they needed to really needed to better understand and embrace who they are. It may have been Tamaki who opened the door, but it was Haruhi who turned on the light, so to speak. Definitely a "Power of Friendship" anime for the ages. Ouran also called out common Shoujo Romantic tropes, like the girl confessing to the twins. The shallow love often featured in these things, and the proof that she didn't really know or care about who she was confessing to, just wanted a relationship with _anyone_ is genuinely so cruel on her part that that moment was so vindicating. They were arguably being cruel about calling her out like that, but the fact that calling her out on her delusions instead of entertaining it just emphasizes how crazy and entitled that style of confessing is. Their bitterness is warranted. Speaking of the Hitachiin Twins, they always held a strong part of my heart because I'm also an identical twin, and being a "package deal," especially when we're younger, is very important. So much of their hangups make relatable sense to me, and I feel a lot of their identity crisis issues personally. I have a bit of a philosophy in that way - basically, "the same, but different." A good example is with gifts - if you want to give us a backpack, for example, don't give us the same color or the color that only one twin prefers - makes us feel like an afterthought. Give us a backpack each in our preferred colors, for example. And don't get us a single item that can't be shared well, or a gift that is technically 2 items, but they aren't an equal value - like a backpack that comes with a lunchbox. That's not a gift to each of us that way. We want the same opportunities you'd give to one child in that situation, but we want to be recognized as having different likes and dislikes. I hadn't quite had the words to explain why they do the "who's who game" the way they do, but I'm glad you talked about that so well. The fear of no one really caring about how we're different while also respecting how important it is that we're so very much intermingled into each other's identity is so poignant and scary. Their parts always hurt and gave me an identity crisis. I love this show for several reasons, and one of them was how very GNC and "haphazard boyish wardrobe that fits alright" that explains Haruhi's aesthetics. It was so painfully relatable, and a variety anime was genuinely starved of. It was hard to find girl characters that weren't always wearing pastels or skirts and were just allowed to be casual and plain in dress and behavior in a very _normal_ way. Her behavior wasn't amped in the typical Shoujo Girl ways, either - she was just like the guys in that sense, and it suited her so well. The fact that she talked about gender expectations things in a very frank and often annoyed way I don't really recall any other media hitting with the same sort of casual "this is a pretty simple fact of life" way she does did so much for me, especially as a kid. Genuinely does something for me, heals the part of me beat up and starved from all other examples of gender expectations, real _and_ fictional. She's very chill and down to earth, and really says a lot of what we're thinking - she was always someone I found relatable and admirable, and not just in the gender-envy way. She may have been pretending to be a dude, but she looked great in that suit, and not just because I find the school dress ridiculous looking at best (because it _is_ ridiculous). I also like she didn't try too hard to make the gag work - she was just doing her own thing, and let the boy's lies and everyone else's assumptions do the rest. She never changed who she was, just made the best of the very weird situations she found herself in, and always tried to do right by people. She was the breath of fresh air and humanity these kids needed. They genuinely would have had a mental spiral had they not met her when they did.

Ouran High School Host Club will always be one of my favourite series ever. I can't even begin to count the amount of times I've rewatched and reread it to the point of having memorized iconic lines. Whenever I need something to put on the background, it's a sign for another rewatch. And I appreciate that you gave props to the English dub!! I can't understand Japanese so I put on the dub as BGM but I think it's just as enjoyable as the sub and does a good job of portraying the characters. I think what makes OHSHC one of my favourites is that all the characters have my heart. They're all charming in their own ways and all play a part in making this series great. Another reason I love this series is because all the characters clearly love and care for each other!! It's typical for a romance series with multiple love interests to only have the love interests solely care about the main character, but in OHSHC, all the host club members have deep connections with each other. ((SPOILERS WITHIN THE PARENTHESES!!)) I think the best examples of this are: ((ANIME SPOILERS!! When the host clubs members come together in the last episode of the anime to tell Tamaki how much he means to all of them)) and ((MANGA SPOILERS!! When everyone all band together to reunite Tamaki with his mother)). The fact that the other host club members are important to each character's personal development also show the deep relationship they all have with one another. And I was so happy during the entire Hitachiin twins bit of the video!! The development arc of the Hitachiin twins was most definitely my favourite in the entire series (in the manga, especially). The twins start off narrow-minded and insisting the world was divided into "them and everyone else", never allowing others inside their world because they believed no one would come to understand them. But because of Tamaki, they've slowly started to open themselves up to everyone else and found comfort in the host club. Then Haruhi came along and shook their entire world even more so. Kaoru has always been the more perceptive and self-aware of the twins while Hikaru was more immature and oblivious. Now, the problem has become whether or not they should "maintain the status quo within the host club" because if the truth of their feelings towards Haruhi came to light, the host club which gave them comfort might fall apart. ((MANGA SPOILERS!! Although Honey and Mori don't really get as deep of a character arc as the other host club members, I think they play their role as "older brothers watching over the younger members" really well-as seen in how they give separate advice to the twins during their "serious fight")). ((EVEN MORE MANGA SPOILERS!! I love the resolution of their arc-with Kaoru learning to accept the changes of the dynamics within the host club and Hikaru maturing and becoming more understanding of others' feelings, ultimately resulting in the twins becoming more independent from each other.)) Overall, this series is so special to me and I don't think any other series can make me feel the same way. Although I didn't write about them as much, Kyouya and Haruhi are my fave characters next to Kaoru. Sorry for the long rambling, I just got excited over seeing an OHSHC retrospective. And of course it's mainly a comedy (and a great one at that) but the depths of the characters give this series so much heart. I love OHSHC so much (╥﹏╥). Your video was really good, truly got your points across!!

Michael Tatum who voiced Kyoya but I can't remember) Aloha from Hawaii 🌺

this is so accurate though, Ouran was the first anime I ever watched and even though i’ve seen several more after it, I always come back to rewatching this one. There’s something about it that keeps pulling you back to it, and each time i rewatch it i seem to focus more on a different specific character than the last time. whenever i do that it, helps me see the difference between all of them and understand who they are, and it shows exactly how good the series really is. ugh i really wish they would’ve done a season 2 tho😩 i recently finally got around to reading the manga version of it, and although I haven’t finished it yet, it shows so much more character arcs than the show (if that’s even possible?) and drags you more into it because you learn to sympathize with the characters even more. they do so much to help and protect each other even though they have such dramatic differences between them. it’s really such a great show, with a great cast, great plot, and overall feeling to it that just clicks ❤️

Ouran definitely has this magical quality to it. It is simultaneously erreverant and silly while also surprisingly powerful and deep at times. It also somehow manages to feel rooted in 2000s anime culture and style but also very progressive in a lot of ways. There is a lot of cheesy really basic life lessons that come with the show but there is also a lot of really unique ideas presented. My favorite of these lessons that I don't think gets enough credit is Haruhi herself. There is the surface level basic idea that Haruhi shows a young audience that you should be yourself and there is nothing wrong with being different. On a much deeper level though Haruhi is not just a lesson in acceptance of oneself but acceptance and security in gender identity without fitting into a mold. Haruhi is a woman. She was born a biological woman and she continues to actively identify as a woman throughout the show. Despite presenting as male for the club, dressing in various styles that presents as both masculine and feminine, and even being pressure by her friends and family to present a certain way, Haruhi dresses and acts the way that she is comfortable with. Haruhi identifies as a woman but she never feels the need to justify or clarify that identification because she is secure with that identification and that is the only person to whom it should be important. It seems small but that was something that always really stood out to me. As someone who was born a woman but really struggled with my identity Haruhi being a character that never felt a need to prove their gender through actions and presentation was really validating.

as a nonbinary person, ouran was honestly so ahead of the game in representation, not just of queer people and culture like an enby MC, drag etc, but also of so many strong, unique, and memorable personalities, motivations and backstories. And this applies not just to the host club but every side characters. they felt like real people i could be friend with

One thing I love about this anime as well. Which I noticed isn’t in other animes is their respect for the female body. Haruhi is respected as a person by her character and we get to find a different heroine that isn’t about boys or true love. But about what she loves, her spunk is amazing and with out looking for it. She finds a romantic interest.

ok first off you NAILED the deep ending and then using the outro music literally it sends chills down my spine anytime i hear it- but also like ouran was my first slice of life anime as well and got me into anime just like you and i also keep coming back to it the relatablity and everything you mentioned was spot on one thing i love about the dub is how natural the characters are and in episode 24 at the end when kyoya laughs at tamaki- comparing the dub and sub i think the dub fits the animation so much more and makes it so much more genuine ontop of all of that, another reason why i keep coming back to ouran is because i myself, am a haruhi- I'm built very much like a scrawny boy, I've got the face and hair for it (except mines not cut) and I've related to haruhi the most out of any character ever, all the way down to astraphobia (it sucks tho not fun do not recommend). i also have been able to tell twins apart almost instantly since i was very young as for the twins they are my favorite characters, kaoru especially- the Halloween episode is one i love so much. i love finding the subtle differences between the twins and seeing how kaoru grows and how hikaru grows as well ouran has gone even as far as to influence my art style so much that i drew haruhi recently and it looks just like the anime- its stuck with me all this time and i couldn't have been more grateful for it you truly are correct when you say there is no other anime like ouran highschool host club and I'm so glad it exists

Wha to love about ouran and it’s function as a comedy is that through all these episodes, even if they’re silly, we are getting to know these characters, and learning to care for them. We see what they think of themselves and the world around them, and how they interact with other expletive. So when a feels-bomb hits out of nowhere, it’s even more intense because we have a sense of care for these characters. That’s especially why the last episode always gets me. They care about each other!! And we beleieve it! And that what makes the drama all the more impactful. (Hope this made sense)

For me, the fantasy comes from the loving relationships built among friends and family. As I've grown older, I've come to learn that people are complex and not easy to open their hearts. Ouran High is a magical place because of how perfectly developed their bonds become. In my life, I've learned that even with time and effort, you may never grow a bond with someone because of the diversity of thought and complexity people are.

My take on the end scene with Hikaru and Kaoru. When Kaoru turns to see his brother still looking at Haruhi I feel like THAT moment is where Kaoru realizes Hikaru may have a crush on Haruhi, this idea comes back in the Karuizawa arc. ESPECIALLY IN THE MANGA. I absolutely love Ouran. I really hope they'll make a s2 or a reboot (hopefully with the same sub cast). Besides the Twins, Tamaki is an interesting character. He was the one who changed everyone's perspective and broke through their walls. Honey with refusing to be himself (liking cute things like Usa-chan and cake) because he's a Haninozuka. (Mori was unclear, probably because he joined for his cousin). Kyoya, just accepting the powerless 3rd son role. And Haruhi, losing her mom at a young age f 5, she grew up too early. Tamaki basically became the reason they changed and is also the glue of the host club. And when Tamaki loses himself the Host Club goes to lengths to get him back, the last two episodes of the anime very much portrays this. Not only in the anime but also in the last arc of the manga. Now when we learn his backstory, the reason why he made the host club, That out of the blue punch to the gut story behind the airheaded, idiotic, narcissistic guy. My heart....

Ouran Highschool Host Club was one of the first anime I watched with my best friend. I immediately fell in love with the show, the characters, and its fantastic comedy and writing. I recently rewatched the entire series again and I can't deny that my love for this show hasn't changed. One thing I feel like no one talks about when it comes to this series is that you really start to feel like you are getting to know these characters being put on the screen in front of you. They all have so much depth and distinct personalities that it gets you hooked. You want to learn more about them as each episode goes by. Emerging into the world of Ouran is an interesting experience, but I think the one thing that sticks out is that near the end of the series you really start to feel like you, yourself, have found a found family of your own within the club and its characters. It's always bittersweet watching that last episode again and hearing that last line. "We'll see you then!" I dunno man, this show makes me feel things that no other show has done before, and I love every second of it.

no but you playing the ending song to close this off was just so good, like i knew it was coming but when the guitar went off it was just UGH. this is literally one of my favourite shows ever in my opinion, i keep coming back to ouran all the time because it presents such nuance to the frienships and human connections of these characters. what i always remember is this idea of how a person could make your world grow bigger, expand it, get you out of yourself. that's what the host club was for all these characters. it's a show about human connection and it does its job so well it's impossible not to root for their development, not to feel with them when they are irrational or angry, and not to burst out laughing every time a joke comes on. i recommend you read the manga! bisco hatori knows how to have fun and knows how to write tension like no one else. i am very happy with this new wave of videos appreciating ouran and showing it the love it deserves. this is definitely my favourite one. i think you captured the essence of the show really well, and i definitely agree, there's no other show like ouran. thanks for all the work you put into this! :)

As a person who`s been in the anime and manga world on and off for 13 years now,I can honestly say this-Shoujo genre as a whole is criminally underrated.Especially when it comes to character studies. And Ouran excels at that. From the start I wasn`t a biggest isekai/seinen/shounen fan, even if there are some exceptions. But I get why people are. For me,mangas like Ouran,Red River,NANA,Fruits Basket,Kuragehime,KareKano etc.hold IMMENSE value for their characters.I feel like shoujo genre, more than any other, has given me most introspective and delightful characters to pick apart, just how some might do the same for others.Always here for Ouran appreciation!

Ouran was the first anime I watched when I realized I could watch full episodes on KZbin (in 2006 when anime shows were part 1/2/3) and I didn't know anything about it. Never read the manga (at the time I didn't know about online scanlations) but thought the thumbnails were interesting. I thought it was so good I even dragged my brother into watching it and he was the type to run away when I would watch Sailor Moon on TV. He wasn't as into it but he did like it and that's a win for me. Then when the dub came out I started watching the bloopers and those KILLED me. Back then I was a sub over dub person but the dub bloopers were so great I rewatched the whole series TWICE in dub and I still loved it. Ahh this just brings up so many good memories and watching you gush over this show gives me good feelings thank you! 🥰🥰🥰

The order of anime I watched before becoming obsessed with it: - Pokémon (I was very young so I don't remember much of it) - Deltora Quest, Fruit Basket (original version), Vampire Knight (interesting choice for on a kids TV show I know) & OHSHC - Inuyasha, Naruto, Kaichou wa Maid Sama & Special A Ouran High School was one of the first anime I remember watching on the TV when I was 10. I think one key aspect that should be mentioned that apart from the comedic scenes and the heartwarming scenes, like Fruit Basket it was the music that really evoked the mood. The beginning riffs of the guitar of the ending song literally gives me goosebumps and a sense of nostalgia as I associate it with. Like something deep just happened and then you hear the melancholic strums of the guitar. So good.

I haven't watch Ouran for a couple of months, but if there was one thing that always gave me shivers, it would be the guitar riff at the beginning of the main theme. That guitar riff was always the perfect end to a serious episode, and it was what sent me over the edge and made me cry in episode 5. having it play in this video gave me the same exact feeling. it's amazing what music can do!

I 100% agree. With it all. I will never get tired of this anime. I also want to say that, in the twin episode, even the small detail that kaoru is the one who blinks, looks at his brother, and looks back at haruhi, shows their differences. Hikaru is fully focused on Haruhi, astonished by her and I think also starting to grow genuine feelings for her in the emotionally passionate way he does. Kaoru knows what it means for the two of them and looks to his brother, knowing how much it means to Hikaru. That's just one example of the subtle characterization I love from ohshc.

I keep seeing people talking about Oran getting a reboot, and I think that is such a good idea. To this day there are still articles being written about there being a second season, even though it’s not happening. I still wonder what happened to it, so many people loved the show. at least in the usa, maybe they didn’t in Japan. Awesome video btw!

This is actually the first anime I had ever watched aside from a few episodes of card captor sakura with my friend it has a really nostalgic feeling and is so much more deep than what you would expect it to be. Love this show so much and will always be one of my favorites :)

I'm not a fan of gender bender but OHSHC owns a v special place in my otaku journey lol. Still one of the best storyline, characters, and humour both for anime and manga. ✨ Edit: and OSTs!! Kiss Kiss fall in loveee 💯
