Hi Libby, So exciting to watch the transition from house to apartment and your journey as a minimalist - having recently done the same with my hubby. Not to have a dig but as you mentioned Kevin is the provider of the family (same for my hubby) but you aren't wanting to swap the 'guest room' for his office as he wanted the apartment just as much as yourself - but with him having to work for longer and delay his retirement, wouldn't it be nicer for him to be able to have a work from home space with lots of natural light rather than in the room next door which barely has any and pardon the pun feels like he is in a prison cell with the bars on those windows 😆. Please don't take my comment in a bad way, just a thought coming from myself as a 'stay at home wife', having recently downsized ourselves - we similarly have the case of moving to a 3 bedroom apartment as empty nesters and I insisted my hubby choose which room he would prefer to work from home, with the other room setup as a guest room for our adult son to stay in when he's in town

Kevin actually wanted the guest room plus the current room :-). At this stage Kevin isn't working from home (only an odd day). He's also used to a messy dark office - as that's what he works in every day ! If he ever works full time from home we could look into the guest room option.

I downsized last year, and started decluttering as soon I moved in, when I was opening each move box. My kitchen cupboard is small and deep, so I put the items in bins like the white ones you are using, attached a spice rack to the inside of the door, and hooks to hang my potholders, bags for bread, onions, etc. I also buy smaller quantities and shop more frequently. You could hang a knife rack, or a spice rack, and hooks for the towel to the walls on the side of the fridge and cabinet.

Shopping more frequently is definitely going to take us some time to get used to. Thanks for all the suggestions.

You and Kevin are doing so well, moving done your old house to the rental to the apartment in six months is insane! And all the work that you both did downsizing before selling your house, you have been busy all year. Thank you for sharing your life. Your apartment is lovely, keep up the great work unpacking ❤

I tend to agree with @SnoopyAE if Kevin isn't very happy (and he should be) I would be giving him an extra room. What about if you were to use the room with the bars on the window as a store room (for you both), you can fill it with shelving then you can both keep stuff in there. Then give him that bonus room with the planking on the floors as his office. That way you can still have the spare room for when the girls come to visit.

It’s fun to see where you decide to place things and how you organize them. I have a small kitchen and you are right, there’s no way to access things in the back of the cabinets. I have a couple of L shaped cabinets and they are impossible. I have dreamed for a long time of adding pull outs for all of them so I think you will be much happier as soon as you do that. I guess cabinets are cheaper and that’s what the builders care about but they are horrible for the homeowners. I do really like how much storage space you have. Your apartment has far more built in storage than my house. Once you get the drawers set up and can really access all your storage space easily, I think you’ll be great because you will have the storage and still a smaller area to clean. I hope that you can also find storage solutions for Kevin’s office so he feels more comfortable and happy. I am looking forward to seeing it all come together!

Hi Libby how are you happy Saturday afternoon to you and I enjoy your channel and you are amazing supporter

Love that Kevin’s priority was the TV. We do not even own one now as we never used it so when we moved we gave it away. Does it not bring in ants putting the dogs food around?

That sunrise 😍 Throughout the year you’ll see the sun rising in different places. I remember watching how the sun was in a completely different part of the sky from winter to summer! Get some “Hue” or app changeable lights for the bedroom. Then you can have different settings for different “vibes”. Feel free to take your time to show us around. Plenty of time. I hope in your apartment complex, people are better at recycling compared to where we used to live. The recycle dumpsters in the basement used to be filled with general rubbish. Made me so angry. Ooo I love the ripple design on the kitchen drawers. We also added handles to our kitchen cupboards, best thing we ever did - and yes, pull out cupboard drawers are perfect for getting to the back. Our kitchen is tiny now and honestly, all the stuff we have wedged in the back of the cupboards never get used. Blurry… I’ve also noticed on the iPhone with the new iOS update the camera behaves so differently now. Certain lighting also flickers now in the filming. Ok, I’ve written an essay here… 😂

I really noticed the suns changing positions in our rental and yes, we'll see it here as well which will be interesting. Things not being recycled properly makes me mad as well. If you've not noticed I tend to write essay comments as well :-).

I went from a larger home to a smaller home. It's overwhelming at first, but over time, you will wonder how you ever managed a bigger space. 😊

I hope Kevin adjusts soon,, some people don’t do as well with change. We grocery shop every day or two as we have a Woolworths downstairs. You will feel much better when you get everything set up. ❤

Just a tip to becoming a minimalist. The question I would ask myself starting in the kitchen. Are you going to entertain again? Are you ever going to have more than a couple of people over? For us it was a no. So what I am saying is you really do not need more than a couple of cups and a few plates. Also look at serving ware and bowls. We kept four piece dinner set . That also went for cutlery and four cups and glasses. Why keep so many coffee cups? You can only use one cup at a time. Look at linen and how much you have. We have a set of sheets each . We wash and put straight back on. Do not buy more storage as you will just add more stuff. You say you are or want to be a minimalist but Libby you need to be tougher with culling to be classed as a minimalist.
