I think a character like loki using his 90 second ult (and only form of escape) for a second long stun feels infinitely more fair and less frustrating than a character like barron hitting me with a different form of cc every 2 seconds and if you dare beads one of his abilities he just gets to solo ult and kill you for free. I think these cc heavy characters should be the ones getting reworked for smite 2 because i think they’re way more frustrating to play against than actually play as.

They never opened a google docs with 10 years of complaints and data analysis about what happened in S1. If they just multiplied every single skill cd in the game which has a hard cc by 1.25, and they hand edited particular cases, we'd not be suffering this rn. And healing skills shouldn't be full of text. They should give you 2-3 things, and one of which is healing. Why always healing with 10 steroids? As of rn there are very few characters that need to have a low cd hard cc.

If they had made a spreadsheet pointing out everything you said, which is: " 1. easy to hit, 2. duration and 3. cooldown", this wouldn't be happening. S2 reeks of subjective game developing. They don't seem to be objectifying/considering important factors like the ones you mentioned in a proper environment.

Deadlock and Dota Balancing is the correct approach. If Hecate ult is perfectly balanced at 107.5 seconds than that's the correct number doesn't matter if it doesn't look right. Same thing with Items being nerfed -5 power what if taking 1-4 power off was the sweet spot. The devs need to take their head out there ass with this OCD obsession with round numbers and balance the game mathematically. This same concept applies to stuns, It doesn't need to have .25 second jumps it can be .10 even .05 for really strong abilities.

I just think it's funny because I distinctly recall a recent dev video where they're talking about how there is less CC in Smite 2 and like LOL that may be your goal but the goal hasn't been represented in your first 30 gods.

Playing a lot of deadlock recently has actually lent me to liking engagements with longer CD’s and then those fights becoming more and more fun later through the game with items that improve CD. I agree with your take to increase base cooldowns for characters CC’s. I also think they could take a look at making beads being more enticing to buy with maybe attaching Temporal Beads effect to it since all other relics have their upgraded forms except beads. If not that, maybe tuning the CD of beads and tampering with that could help some issues. I also think they could do with a minor damage nerf to everything. Would help smooth out the volatile early game from being too aggressive and dominant and could help late games feel more balanced instead of a coin flip for objectives. Games feel extremely short comparatively and most enemy teams have been quicker to surrender but I hope thats just from irritation regarding CC and not a growing problem for the rest of the closed alpha.

What is that that makes the level of CC in Smite 2 so problematic when most CC got made significantly shorter across the board? And that is a genuine question, hopefully it hasn't come across as an 'ummm ackckshuaullly CC is weaker than in Smite 1 so there' or anything 😅 (as it happens I'm basically always down for CC nerfs because it's aaalways been overtuned AF lol)

This is a good question! I’d target 3 things as the main reason. 1. No buyable CCR to reduce how long ccs last 2. A lot less diminishing return on CCs 3. Beads were in every game in smite 1

Overall agree with this but think most stuns should be change to other cc so you can still do something to try and survivor or win a trayd. Would also like them to try and see if how it feels i you are still allowed to use abilities and items when you are being affected by a displacement.

I believe the issue does not lie with types of CC or the duration of CC. You did touch on it later in the video, but I believe the primary concern with Smite 2 at the moment is the abundance of CDR available through items (specifically through items not the base CDR from abilities), especially commonly built items. While changes have been made to CDR, imposing diminishing returns the more you buy, it's fairly easy for mages, warriors, and tanks to reach over 60-80% cooldown reduction, which equates to approximately 39-45% in Smite 1. This becomes especially problematic with certain characters like Baron, who frequently exceeds 100% CDR, effectively halving his cooldowns or more. For example, let's look at Anubis. - In Smite 1, his stun lasts for 2 seconds at all ranks, and its cooldown scales down from 16 seconds to 12 seconds at max rank. With full CDR, this brings the cooldown to 7.2 seconds. His abilities 1 and 3 have cooldowns of 6 and 7.2 seconds, respectively. That said, you probably won't find a lot of Anubis players building full CDR as he's dependent on Lifesteal robbing him of an additional item slot. - In Smite 2, his stun duration has been reduced to 0.85 seconds, scaling to 1.25 seconds. With a typical build (Chronos Pendant for 25% CDR + 1s off every 10s, Totem of Death for 20%, Cosmic Horror for 25%, Pendulum of Ages for 20%, and Spear of Desolation for 2s off per kill/assist), this results in a total CDR of 90%, converting to approximately 48% CDR. This brings Anubis’s stun cooldown to 6.32 seconds, with his abilities 1 and 3 on cooldowns of 4.21 seconds and 5.26 seconds, respectively. *Please note, that these cooldowns do not include the passives from Chronos Pendant or Spear of Desolation, which would further reduce them if proc'd. Additionally, Anubis has other things going for him, such as the increased movement speed of his 1 and the intial burst damage from his ult. While the CC duration may be shortened, the frequency of which you can CC someone increases. To be clear, some forms of CC are indeed excessive. For instance, the Mesmerize added to Baron feels overpowering, and Fenrir’s ability to bite immediately after ulting often gives the impression of an unfair encounter, as even using Beads you may not prevent being dragged closer to the enemy team as momentum carries over when you fall from his mouth. Heck, even Danza's 1.4s stun doesn't make too much sense as it's the same duration as it was in Smite 1. However, the sheer frequency of which these CC's can be applied is a more likely culprit. We don't see too many people complaining about Danza's stun in Smite 1 (I know we don't have the full roster, but does it really feel that bad in Smite 1?). I believe we need better tank items (If Hi-Rez chooses not to nerf CDR further), we need items with passive auras like Heartward Amulet and Sovereignty. This would enhance the value of tanks by offering protection to their allies, especially when caught in CC. Initially, I was excited to see Prophetic Cloak and Thebes return in Smite 2, only to be disappointed that they no longer provide protections to allies. In the early stages of the Closed Alpha, the primary concern was hunters and crit builds; however, this has since shifted to the ability spam. I hope Hi-Rez will revert these CDR buffs as it feels like it's turning more into Smite 1's MOTD Omnipotence. Should CDR be reduced across the board back to before CA3, I think the CC in Smite would be more tolerable/able to play around than what it is now. Even if CC/CDR continues to be a problem, hitting items across all gods will make it easier to see where we can go and tune the abilities of gods appropriately. The majority of Gods in Smite 2 have the same CDR as they did in Smite 1 and yet they aren't a problem (Again I know we don't have the full roster and we're working with a limited god pool). There will be comments like: "Position better" and "utilize relics like blink to position yourself away and avoid the CC", but it feels bad when you have to trade off a 3-4 minute cooldown relic for an ult on a 60s cooldown or a CC ability on a 6s cooldown. *Edit: After talking with a friend, he brought up a good issue that I didn't quite catch when expressing my initial thoughts, there is no CCR (Crowd Control Reduction) available. It may benefit to re-introduce CCR items as well when looking into possible tank buffs. Goodness knows I don't want a tank meta, but at least additional tools to counter some CC outside of beads and AOE beads active item. The CCR doesn't need to be huge, maybe we can try increments of 5-10% on hybrid items and up to 20% on tank items.* My apologies for the wall of text.

It sucks because Beads have so long of a CD that as a mid or ADC you’re practically at the mercy of HOPING your support has Active Beads. At least in smite 1 I can go ahead and buy or farm recipes for a shorter Beads cooldown. Personally ults that force you into fights(Baron/Fenrir for example) should have much longer CDs. CC duration and its CDs overall should be scrutinized heavily for balance before official beta launch

Are you serrious about Susano? You cant look at his CC in a vaccum but how it synergize with his kit. He is cracked and allways been even in Smite 1. His CC in combination with his kit is cringe.

2:10 I disagree, Ares ult is too weak to be called balanced: 1) It’s a Pull->Stun instead of Stun->Pull, meaning knockup immunity is all you need to dodge Ares ult. 2) Ares has to stand still at the end of the ult animation for the stun to go off if he is pulling someone from far away (MAYBE they fixed it I’m not 100% on that). 3) Later in the video you are calling Ymir balanced (I agree). Even in a game where Ares seems great (e.g. into Susano-Fenrir-Neith-Cern + 1), I would much rather pick Ymir since I can just do everything Ares does but BETTER: catch, peel, obj, engage, disengage, siege, defense, you name it. So I’d say my boi needs some buffs to either Chains (make it do relevant damage, maybe reward hitting multiple chains in a row with proper intervals, #purpleboots), OR have the ult be the ‘you gotta cough up some CC immunity or you dead’ button that it should be.

Am i missing something here? why are you upset with Baron having a slow into a root when that was how his 3 worked in Smite 1? Sure your feeling the root quicker (by literally .25s), but youre also rooted for a much shorter time. Its not the slow into root you should be upset about. its the mezmerize when you have full hysteria. a 2.5s mezmerize ON TOP of a slow into root that lasts 2.25 seconds in total is INSANE. but its not his slow into root that should be removed, as it wasnt ever a problem in Smite, and we have EVEN MORE (as you've admitted yourself when discussing Ares) CC immunity and forms of it in Smite 2! And im sorry, his ult is literally just a weaker version (if youre just looking at dmg numbers and scaling %'s, im not sure about the actual math and how it translates in Smite vs Smite 2) of ultimate from Smite 1. I'm curious why Baron is a huge problem for Smite 2, but hasnt been high level relevant in Smite 1 for ages?! Is it because the TTK in Smite 2 is so low?

@@Inbowned ahhhh... that makes sense. i assumed there was some form of CCR within Smite 2. because why wouldnt there be the same core principles that we've grown accustomed to over the last 5+ years? To be honest, that doesnt surprise me either. Smite 2 felt off from day 1 of the 24/7 alpha to me, and as i find out more and more fine details. The more i understand why.

Position better, use aegis, have your jungler kill them first, flank them, have better vision, build a defense item, have your tank run at them, juke their abilities, play safer characters, snowball on them, force them into bad positions around objectives, counter pick them, position around your aura item support, play more off your team, ambush them in the jungle
