First day of chemo I had a big double cheeseburger for lunch while the chemo IV was going. Several hours later I was extremely sick and lost the cheeseburger, along with everything else in my system. That was the last cheeseburger I ate for probably 6 months. Of course now I know to stay away from for many reasons.

some cancers are just beyond our control of course. And, it's my understanding that cancers start very early, sometimes decades before we even know we have something wrong. Vegan isn't really a food, it's a philosophy to not exploit or abuse animals. Whole plant foods are vegan of course and most protective but they don't make us invincible. Soy is most protective against breast cancer if you have eaten it consistently since you were very, very young. Dairy may increase cancer risk. Yet, there will always be those outliers where someone eating soy does get cancer and someone consuming dairy doesn't get cancer. We all have cells with the potential to become cancerous. Stress, lack of sleep, alcohol, bad diet, toxins, genetics, improper exposure to sunshine, etc... many variables increase risk. But, we only talk about diet here because that directly impacts animals. Plants are healthiest (not a panacea), most sustainable and most ethical.

Something may be "ok" to eat. This doesn't mean it should be eaten nor does it mean it is healthy compared to other things. We have always known that a miniscule amount may not hurt you if you are otherwise eating whole plant foods. The plant foods make it ok. But even better is not consuming dairy or fish at all. There is no need to. The dairy and fish industries are horrific. Really, there is nothing ok about having animals needlessly abused and slaughtered because it is "ok". It may be ok in that it may not hurt me to abuse my child, but I'm not going to. The totality of evidence doesn't make it ok.

Awesome as long as you're not getting too much salt from those fermented foods, you could use vinegar instead. Salt is completely unnecessary and risky, you can get enough sodium from whole plant foods. But a dash here and there as long as you know how much you're getting is all you need, if you're preparing all the food that you eat you can properly monitor it then it's probably totally fine (too much salt can lead to hypertension and stomach cancer). It's great that you're doing fermenting tho!

Zero need for dairy. Especially if you have healthier plant options. Beans, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices exclusively and a variety of each seems to be healthiest, most ethical and globally sustainable ❤ I am not a doctor though so I'm just sharing my perspective since the doctor probably won't be able to respond to this comment. It sounds like you made some changes that helped do feel better but you could have done the same thing going plant based eating a variety of whole plant foods exclusively like beans grains fruits veggies mushrooms nut seeds herbs and spices and a variety of each. Eating plants like this is best for optimum health span and lifespan. What you're experiencing are transient results going from one processed food to another that might natural but less natural compared to whole plant foods. Plants create all of the nutrients you need. Eating animals is eating something processed because their body's DNA processed nutrients from the plants the animal ate, you're getting 2nd hand nutrients that have already metabolized the antioxidants that offset unnoticed inflammation. You're missing out and you don't even realize it yet. Plants are most sustainable both for the human and for all ecosystems. And at the end of the day who really wants to eat animals when it's completely unnecessary and abusive? Because it's so unsustainable they end up in concentrated animal feeding operations which lands them in the most horrific abusive situations possible that are completely unbearable and you wouldn't want to witness this, you would turn your head. But you're experiencing transient effects that make you think what you're doing is right when you didn't even try doing something far healthier and more sustainable and absolutely more ethical. Maybe you will before it's too late

The empirical evidence is overwhelming. 84% of vegans quit the diet within three months. If its so natural for us, then nobody would quit. The only reason people see any changes when going vegan, is because most of the time they cut out the junk food when eating real whole plants you would actually find in nature but it always catches up to them because plants do not have B12 and amino acids vital for protein and cell function. Meanwhile, human beings have survived countless generations on a omnivorous paleolithic diet. Take for example, the Inuit, Native Americans, or the people of Yakutsk, all meat eaters who are perfectly healthy. Look up testimonies of ex vegans and you will see all the harm this does in the long term. Look at the observable evidence before making decisions, on diet, or anything in life. Never just take anyone's word. Just because something fits your "morals" made up in your mind or conditioned to you by society, does not mean it fits with your biology, nature, or objective truth.
@VeganLinked
@VeganLinked Жыл бұрын
Your outdated, overused, already debunked comment is riddled with ignorance. Animal flesh doesn't make B12, it comes from bacteria and only comes with other sources when they're contaminated with it. So B12 is irrelevant to the conversation. Furthermore, livestock are supplemented with it, like 70 percent of it goes to livestock. And everyone should consider taking B12 at some point because as we age we lose intrinsic factor to absorb it. Plenty of people eating animals are supplementing B12 as well as other things. Most of the B12 supplements go to livestock. But B12 from slaughtered flesh has been cross contaminated with feces during the slaughtering process. An animal doesn't need to die to be a vehicle for bacteria. B12 use to come from dirty water, dirty hands, dirty food. Now we live in such a sterile environment we need to supplement. I'd rather take a B12 than get chronic disease from eating animals and end up having to take medication. Here's a fascinating read. It talks about fermented foods like Japanese Black Tea and Kimchi having B12, duckweed has a way to produce B12 with a symbiotic bacteria, Hydroponic lettuce taking it up from the water, dirty plants, fertilized plants uptaking B12, etc. But nothing beats the assurance, price, safety, and consistency of a supplement veganhealth.org/vitamin-b12/vitamin-b12-plant-foods/#summary

@VeganLinked Жыл бұрын
I have seen the failed vegans already. I thoroughly understand it. I even discuss it on my go vegan page of my website. And I have had conversations with doctors about it in some of my interviews. I am even building a compilation from the question why do vegans fail. People don't just go into veganism knowing how to do it after living their whole life not doing it. The best way is acclimating to a diverse whole plant food diet. And this is for optimum health span and lifespan. Transitioning can be difficult depending on the the disposition of the individual. So it may be challenging for any number of reasons but the goal is still the same and that is to acclimate to a whole food vegan diet. I went vegan in 2011 but my journey started in the early nineties. So I was already part of the way there. And transitioning was essentially just removing animals out of my diet and I didn't really have to find a lot of replacements. But for the 1st 5 years vegan I really didn't know a lot about nutrition. I'm 2016 I started studying nutrition and realized how healthy vegan can be which made me want to become an advocate and also eat healthier. So for the last 6 years I've been learning how to implement a healthy variety of whole plant foods in the most ideal way for optimum health span. In the end it's pretty straightforward and easy but in the beginning it's difficult because it's novel to eat and live healthy. Others may be going into this with more of a dependency on eating animals. I only had to give up fish in the end. I already gave up red meat for the most part in the early nineties and chicken in the mid nineties. Others may be going into it from having eaten all these animal products every day. And they may be going into it from never having eaten beans, greens and grains and fruits and veggies and mushrooms and nuts and seeds. So any number of things can happen from discovering an allergy to creating an allergy that can be overcome, to having a reaction maybe because they have some autoimmune disease from their previously poor diet (that a fast may fix and a little clinical assistance), they could be detoxing and misinterpreting that, they could be over eating or under eating, eating in the wrong time of day... A lot of people yo yo diet going from fasting to raw to juicing. They may have some other underlying conditions that gets exacerbated because they don't know how to treat it first and eat properly, maybe they have anemia or fibroids and just need to employ a few little hacks in order to increase absorption due to their underlying condition. Or, a lot of people just don't like dealing with family and friends that aren't vegan. It takes a leader and if you're a follower in a culture where everyone around you is eating animals you're more than likely going to face some challenges with coworkers family and friends. In the end if they were having a problem and they were really vegan to begin with they would have gotten a plant based doctor or a plant based nutritionist to help them acclimate to this. But these vegan failures "fail" to go to a plant based doctor or they just give in because it's easier to do the wrong thing when everyone around you is. But naturally you're gonna have failures. Most people fail at giving up their addictions, so much so that failing is a part of the recovery process. But just because a smoker or crackhead or anyone on a drug feels better when they smoke doesn't mean that fresh air isn't good for them and smoking is better. I understand these things after having been in human services as a mental health counselor for 15 years. I will be releasing a video sometime this year on vegan failures. And people fail at eating animals because an animal has to die and that's failure one, Failure two is the chronic diseases that come from advanced glycation end products, heterocyclic amines, nitrosamines, trimethylamine n oxide, oxidized cholesterol and oxidized heme-iron, sialic and palmitic acids, arachidonic acids, endotoxins, excess sulfur containing amino acids that putrefies in the colon, the list goes on and on. And they also fail because eating animals is astronomically unsustainable. And invasive to all species while wasting invaluable resources while a billion people starve and we're forcing 20 fold more animals than humans into existence to feed, water and house only to slaughter 200 million a day for a resulting small percentage of globally food intake. But animals are not food, healthy, ethical or necessary to eat, or sustainable.

Thanks for asking! This video sums it up nicely: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6WznHeGaLlqiJY First, because there is absolutely no need to consume eggs there is absolutely no reason to exploit chickens for this. The industry is horrific. They create birds that produce an egg every day instead of at their natural rate of one a month. I don't know if you have any lady friends or if you're a woman (or can answer "what is a woman?" lol) but let's say you know a woman. Imagine a woman having to endure what she abhors every month not 12 times a year but now 365 times a year. This of course results in a drastically shorter lifespan. Male chic's of course are ground up alive because they are of no use. Second, they're unhealthy and even dangerous. So not only are they unnecessary because we can eat plants instead, they are risky to even consume. nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-and-arterial-function/ nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-and-diabetes/ nutritionfacts.org/video/who-says-eggs-arent-healthy-or-safe/ nutritionfacts.org/video/whose-health-unaffected-by-eggs/ nutritionfacts.org/video/debunking-egg-industry-myths/ nutritionfacts.org/video/how-the-egg-board-designs-misleading-studies/ nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-and-cholesterol-patently-false-and-misleading-claims/ In summary nutritionfacts.org/topics/eggs/ nutritionfacts.org/questions/why-are-eggs-bad-for-you/ nutritionfacts.org/2020/05/12/what-meat-and-eggs-do-to-our-microbiome/ Flash back nutritionfacts.org/video/flashback-friday-who-says-eggs-arent-healthy-or-safe/ nutritionfacts.org/video/egg-cholesterol-in-the-diet/

Fiber has absolutely no nutritional value and clogs the intestines. All the nutrients come from meat and absorbs into your system quickly. The first two weeks of carnivore your body adjusts to meat only with loose stools because it’s unclogging the system from fiber. I would NEVER take nutritional advice from a radiologist

You're joking, right? Actually there is zero science supporting what you're saying. Do you really think you know more than the totality of evidence i.e. American College of Lifestyle Medicine, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the largest on organization on the plant of dietitians and nutritionist and state vegan is healthy for every stage of life, Medicare, Kaiser Permanente, WHO, etc even the American Cancer Society says: Notice they say "fiber rich" "A healthy eating pattern includes: Foods that are high in nutrients in amounts that help you get to and stay at a healthy body weight A variety of vegetables - dark green, red and orange, fiber-rich legumes (beans and peas), and others Fruits, especially whole fruits in a variety of colors Whole grains "Adequate intake of dietary fiber is associated with digestive health and reduced risk for heart disease, stroke, hypertension, certain gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. According to consumer research, the public is aware of the benefits of fiber and most people believe they consume enough fiber. However, national consumption surveys indicate that only about 5% of the population meets recommendations, and inadequate intakes have been called a public health concern. " Clinical Significance A high-fiber diet has the following health benefits: Improved bowel health: High fiber diet prevents the formation or worsening of hemorrhoids and diverticular disease, which presents as outpouchings in the colon walls. Studies have shown that a high-fiber diet decreases the risk of colorectal cancer.[12] Cholesterol-lowering effects: Soluble fibers bind to cholesterol molecules in the small intestine and prevent their absorption. The cholesterol-lowering properties of soluble fibers help to prevent coronary heart disease.[13] Postprandial glucose and insulin levels: Soluble fibers slow the absorption and digestion of carbohydrates and lower insulin demand in the body, thereby stabilizing postprandial glucose levels.[14][15][16] Improved satiety and weight loss: Soluble fibers make the stomach contents viscous and prolong gastric emptying time. Studies have shown this to help reduce weight, improve BMI, lower body fat, and waist-to-hip ratio.[17] Cancer prevention: Some studies have shown that soluble fibers such as pectin have antioxidant properties and lower the risk of other types of cancer, including breast cancer.[18] Helps to live longer: Fiber intake is associated with decreased prevalence of diabetes type 2, coronary heart disease, stroke, and improved immune function.[19][17]

My oncologist said diet has very little to do with my endometrial cancer. It was WRONG information. Then I met a lady in a clothing store who coincidentally had same cancer as me. But she had been treated in Boston using an integrated approach. They told her to go whole foods plant based with no added sugar, no added salt, and no added oils/fats. There were other differences in the care we got. She got told to reduce stress, exercise, etc. I was not told that. My treatment in a smaller city had been missing critical components.

This November will be 4 years vegan for me, I have absolutely no doubt that going WFPB vegan not only saved my life but also improved my quality of life by ten fold. Best and cheapest prescription I have ever taken. WFPBV doesn't treat the symptoms, it treats the cause. So often the treatment of symptoms leads to other, possibly even more deadly disease and the side effects of prescription drugs were debilitating for me. 4 years ago I was on 7 different prescription medications, today I take zero.

It took 9 months after starting WFPBV diet before my cardiologist pulled me off all BP and cholesterol meds. Sadly it was a struggle to find a doctor that had the knowledge and experience in healing through Whole-food plant-based nutrition even in the Bay Area where I live, it was difficult and I only found the one I use by accident and my insurance would not cover her visits because she was not in network so my first few visits were out of pocket but now my new insurance does pay for it. If you give it plant foods, that is where all the nutrients are, you'll relieve the struggle the body goes through to get rid of all the poisons people eat in their foods. Keep it simple and stay with whole foods, remembering that the whole plant based foods also have the best nutrition.

I went vegan for ethical reasons but the health benefits are undeniable. I thought I was in good shape because I exercised regularly and ate a “balanced” diet. I was a little overweight, had joint pain, asthma, and a fair amount of stress anxiety from a demanding career. The first 2 weeks were hard as my body went through a detox but after that everything changed all at once. In 3 months of going vegan my energy levels were off the charts, my sleep was better than ever, the extra weight melted, and my body reshaped, I noticed more mental clarity, and the biggest improvement is my asthma symptoms almost completely disappeared. And now my career and life is more demanding than ever and I have no anxiety. Like this man, I wish I’d been vegan from a baby. Did I miss meat? Yes, I missed certain meats for quite awhile but I just couldn’t bring myself to partake in that lifestyle anymore. Now if I smell any meat cooking it turns my stomach. I feel the vegan diet has completely transformed my body and has also improved my physical and mental health. My medical tests are great and I’m rarely ever sick. I come from a long line of family, on both sides, who die from cancer and heart disease way too early, and most become type 2 diabetic - and all heavy meat eaters. I love my family but it is difficult listening to them whine about all their ailments and daily pain and how limited they are as they shovel lots of meat into their mouths, all the while telling me how lucky I am that I have good genes and must have been switched at birth. And when I fill my plate they tell me how unhealthy I eat because I don’t get enough protein. 🙄 And the hilarious thing is when I bring dishes to family dinners, mine are the first to disappear. The whole food, plant based diet has come a long way and the food can be amazing and so fun to cook. There are some great, non-preachy people on KZbin who share amazing recipes for those who want to try. Just search “ whole food plant based” and you are sure to find some dishes that will make you drool. If you are looking for a way to feel so much better, give this at least a month. Get past the detox phase and your world will change and you will continue to improve. Whatever diet you choose, please do it as healthy as possible because life is a gift and should be lived at its fullest and not being miserable in our bodies.

Sorry to hear for your loss. Vegetarian tends to not be very healthy at all. And cancer usually starts many years, even decades before we know. Vegan isn't really a diet, it is a philosophy. But it happens to be the healthiest, most protective way if eating according to the totality of evidence is vegan, and that is a whole plant food exclusive diet consisting of beans, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices; and a variety of each. But this seems most protective when done from birth. Even still, there are many others variables at play such as stress, lack of rest, proper sun exposure, environmental toxins, genetics, etc. We can't look at any one person and deduce much beyond that isolated individual. We can only do our best to make the most of our inevitably limited time on this planet. It sounds like your wife was a very compassionate loving person and did the best she could for herself and others.

I wish the vegans who start feeling sick after years of feeling well, would get taken seriously by the vegan community. Help them. Don’t just fingerpoint and judge and assume they’ve done it wrong. Some of them have been following the great vegan doctors to the letter.

where are these sick vegan? why didn't they actually see someone who specializes in lifestyle medicine if they're actually sick? They NEVER do, they just think, oh, click bait... We understand it may be difficult for some people. And that in the beginning vegans were ethical only and shunned the health potential skewing the science with their hyperpalatable comfort food full of salt, oil, and sugar. The most successful long term vegans are the most whole food plant exclusive. The vegans I know with issues ALWAYS eat more processed. It never fails. People think they know how to do this right when they spent their whole life doing something completely different that was wrong. Going vegan is easy, learning how to do it in the healthiest way to take advantage of the healthiest, most protective diet possible takes work because it takes learning. In the end it's the most simple thing really though. Beans, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices in their whole form and a variety of each.

I’m WF plant based. But, for every one of these testimonies of going plant based, there is one for carnivore. The fact of the matter is we don’t know much of anything, and proclamations of “everyone should do it this way” is simply an unsupported idea given the divergent personal experiences many come forth with. So, maybe one size doesn’t fit all, and the best way is to pay attention to how you feel, and use that as the litmus for experimenting with diet until you do feel better, instead of “institution guidelines” which are often created in flawed ways
@VeganLinked

There is ZERO science supporting the anecdotes in the carnivore movement and no legit doctors or researchers supporting it. Meanwhile there's thousands of science and research showing the health benefits of plants. The doctors supporting the plant based movement have many decades of relevant clinical experience evidencing the efficacy of eating plants exclusive which is consistent with the totality of evidence such as leading health organizations and science. Considering that the overwhelming majority of people have been conditioned to unhealthy comfort foods of course they want to hear and good news about their bad habits and bad news about good habits. The doctors pushing the carnivore movement have no relevant clinical experience or education and even if they started to they would be over a half a century behind the plant based doctors. There is no carnivore equivalent to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, NutritionFacts, American College of Lifestyle Medicine, Rochester Institute, Hippocrates Wellness, TrueNorth, etc... there is no support from the largest healthcare industries like Kaiser in the country for carnivore yet they completely support eating plants exclusively and they of course benefit significantly from healthy customers, the largest organization of nutritionist and dietitians in the world says a vegan diet is healthy and appropriate for every stage of life but they don't say that about carnivore, the WHO found that eating meat is a class one and two carcinogen, I could go on. There isn't even a carnivore channel with as many legit testimonials and significant doctors as mine. Even if they could prove that eating animals exclusively was ideal for optimum health span and lifespan as well then you would have a choice, so why choose the least sustainable and completely unnecessary and therefore most violent grotesque option? But, they can't even prove that. All their doing is a "elimination diet" that gets transient results with very risky long term consequences both for the individual consumer as well as the animals and the planet.

Yeah and there's a lot of doctors that don't agree with it. But there's a lot that feel like it's a great way to prevent dying from cancer. And there's no panacea, breast cancer can happen to anyone really no matter how careful they are with their diet and lifestyle. Best wishes!

Does anyone know if plant based methionine have the same effect on “feeding” cancer as meat based methionine? Plants do contain methionine, so would one with cancer have to avoid all foods containing it?

Oh and I honestly believe because I was rather healthy active vegan to begin with, that my cancer was so small and treatable. I think my diet did keep this thing slow growing too and thankfully it didn’t go anywhere else. So I do think diet does play a roll. In my case it helped me keep this thing in check. My body makes too much estrogen I guess (and no I don’t blame soy for that even though I’m avoiding it these days). I think in my case, the cause was the pollution and environment, neighbors fertilizers and pesticides, or the water even.

How are you going to sort the endometrial thickening? Have you had bone density check? I had early stage breast cancer; lumpectomy; radiation; resisted taking tamoxifen; then took it. Normal uterine wall thickness went to 12mm with tamoxifen; ultrasound reports questioned tamoxifen use - doctors talk hysterectomy but I ask what about foods. They’re not interested. Stopped tamoxifen immediately. Trying to find integrative nutritional doctor in Brisbane Australia Have liver issues, excess weight which I have been reducing (89kg to 71 kg); drastically reduced alcohol and meats except fish over past 12 months - my previous lifestyle is catching up with me but doctors Do not treat each issue together but they all relate somehow!

If someone is not getting enough protein on a vegan diet, they're really not trying very hard, or they don't know what they're doing...or they're lying. It's super easy for the average person. I'm a vegan bodybuilder and it's a little harder than the average person because I want to maximize the protein, to build muscle, while keeping the calories low, to shed fat. But I still can do it. I can get well over 200 grams of protein a day on a vegan diet and keep my calories around 2000 just by adding in vegan protein powder.
