When our children were little we celebrated Christmas for them and the children of our small church group. We had an annual concert and a big tree generally on which we pinned dollar bills which we sent to ADRA or INTERNATIONALCHILDREN' CARE or some such charitable group. The children enjoyed preparing their poems, music and reenactments of the story of Jesus' birth.The adults were blessed to support them in learning their parts and in watching them use their talents for the glory of God. As our children grew up, our tree at home became smaller and smaller and one Christmas it did not show up. We celebrated without a tree and no one complained. We shared practical gifts as we usually did.That has been for years now. But do I think everyone should share our conviction? No. In a church it does seem odd to most that there is NO mention of the birth of Jesus, no symbol of our acknowledging it. To me it sends the wrong message to visitors who doubtless could question our profession to be Christians. I believe it would send a more correct message of what we believe relative to Jesus than in ignoring doctrinally suitable songs of the season, reviewing the story of the birth which gave great cause for rejoicing and even greater cause in the hope, joy and certainty of anticipation of His soon second coming.
