There's Mold On My Cigars! Now What?

This video talks about the biggest calamity for cigar smokers - and that is finding mold on your cigars. It's something we work hard to prevent by taking care of our humidors, but sometimes it still happens. Topics covered are:

Great advice on spotting mold. I ordered a box of cigars from Thompsons and 3-4 of them had mold. I wasn't sure it was mold until I watched this. Sent em back for a full refund. Much appreciated.

I found something on some of my cigars which was white, it was only on the ones half in there tubes, none of the other cigars showed anything and after wiping the white dust off nothing come back, I didn't clean the humidor or anything, I would have thought if it was mold it would have spread or come back in a few weeks

I know its a sore spot, but I have had plume and its not mold. Have about 6 really special sticks Im saving for milestones and have had plume in them. The wrappers are a little faded but they wiped easily. Thanks for the vid! 💨

I agree with you - plume is pretty rare and unfortunately some cigar sellers misuse it to justify mold. But I'm in the group that believes plume does exist.

I’m every test that’s ever been done where people provided examples of “plume” it was mold. Plume is mold.

What do you think about electric humidors

I think they will become very popular. I'm somewhat traditional in that I like a wood humidor, but cigars can be a pretty big investment, and spending another $200-$400 on an electric humidor to ensure proper temperature and humidity is certainly appealing where I live with very dry winters that make maintaining even 65% is challenging at times. There are many climate areas where I think electric humidors make a lot of sense.

Just found mold on some of my cigars today in my Needone 23L Two weeks ago noticed I was at 58 humidity with my 68% boveda packs filled reservoir to help bring back up looked in there today after two weeks was at 84% opened humidor and found mold growing on a few cigars. Removed cigars and was able to get the mold off foot and wrapper pretty easy! I hope I caught it in time. My cigars wrapped in cellophane are good. Now I will move and separate cigars and start the cleaning process! Could be my 150 humidor has too many cigars for good circulation so I guess I will try and do something different! This is upsetting I’m sure I have close to $1000 dollars in smokes In this thing! I always kept my smokes in sealed glass Tupperware till I got this humidor in Feb! Now I’m wandering if I should go back to Tupperware! I do live in a dry climate fourcorners area of New Mexico

Ive only had plume on non cellophaned cuban cigars. They were in thier own sub humidor that didnt get opened for a 6 month stretch at a time.

It was mold. Not all mold is pervasive and ends up on the foot. Literally every single cigar which people thought was "plume" has proven to be mold when lab tested

My wife got exposed to some bad mold while cleaning her mom's house in the tropics and it almost killed her, you do not want to mess with smoking mold. Plume on the other hand, I have some Oliva series V that started pluming around 8 years in my humidor and they are some of the most delicious sticks I've ever smoked! If I see cigars with plume in a B&M, I'm buying them, they are ready.

Thanks for the comment - I've noticed at my B&M some of the sticks that don't have cellophane tend to have a little plume on them. Have you noticed that?

@@cigarscigarscigars No I haven't but then again I only have one B&M locally and their humidor is designed to do nothing but destroy cigars, so I don't buy there.

It was mold whether you're willing to accept it or not. What people call plume is just a less pervasive mold that can be brushed off, and if caught in time, won't affect the flavor of the cigar too much. Literally every cigar that has been lab tested which people thought had plume on it, has proven to be mold. Every. Single. One. They even offer a free box of cigars if someone sends one in that isn't mold, but it's never happened. I forgot which company does that.

There is no such thing as plume. Plume was an invention of tobacconists and vendors.
