The Glock knife is a factory made shank! People make it work, but on purpose? Yeah, I'd dig with it... but I used to carry a piece of a broken machete for that, battening, etc. Worked. Thanks. Was glad for this video right from the title!

A Bowie knife is the best survival knife. That's what people used in the wild. The smallest Bowie knife blade cutting edge is roughly 10 inches. Bear, big cats, and wolf packs have been hunted almost completely out of existence. Hand to hand combat is less likely due to more guns being capable self-defense wise. Higher capacity etc.

I am a studying blade smith and make a lot of my own knives and 5160 is a very good steel to work with. It has decent edge retention and it is easy to sharpen. It all comes down to the heat treatment of the blade and if it's done right you have a very good quality knife

Another well done video. I’ve always said, every knife is a series of compromises. So there is a strong argument for two knives that have different strengths and weaknesses. Personally, for outdoors use, I prefer something like a parang or a kukri, paired with something like a Mora companion or a folder.

My biggest question is always: why searching for a survival knife? A survive situation is one where you don’t want to be and want to get out as fast as possibile. A knife hardly will help in that, a GPS and trauma kit will help you way more. So why concentrating so much on knives when they are just basic tools and you can easily do most tasks without them?

I think of survival knives as a part of a life insurance policy. Do you use it every day? No, do you invest in it weekly or monthly? Yes. Why? Because it's apart of being prepared for any situation and find the perfect knife not only is fun and a hobby for most of use, but it is a way to help experience the world.

But at the core I agree and it is why I tell most people to carry a GPS/PLB

I have found that the ultimate survival/bushcraft knife is the SURVIVE 5.1 in Magnacut. They`ve had huge problems with the production lately, and you have to wait a very long time to get it though.

The biggest problem with Survive is that it’s a gamble. They are behind in production because of funds, so you pay for older knives to be made and hope someone long the line will pay yours one day. It’s something I don’t like since someone will get burned at the end, but that’s their business model and it’s just good to be aware of it
@bladesnchill
@bladesnchill Жыл бұрын
@@clintwestwood3539 Yeah....and their last update was that the steel manufacturer had sendt them all magnacut knifes with deep rust/decarborazation so they had to reprofile the whole knife and dlc coat the blade

@@bladesnchill I just prefer to avoid that and go directly to a custom knife maker at that point. It’s far more reliable and you get your product for certain.

@@clintwestwood3539 Pure custom? Isnt that very expensive? I am already looking at the top 5 tier when it comes to brands, max $300-350. You have any other suggestions ?
@clintwestwood3539
@clintwestwood3539 Жыл бұрын
@@bladesnchill European custom is 300/400€ for CPM steels with perfect protocol treatment or 200€ for good AEB-L/14c28n. Slavs do exceptional protocols at amazing prices too. US products are usually overpriced for what you get which is completely absurd when you see that European minimum wage is twice (at least) as high as US one. They are just doing extremely big markups on the final product. I always went for full custom and has the best service at perfect price point. I wanted to approach Survive, but then informed myself on their business model and it was a big no and huge red flag for me.

I have a question for you I'm undecided to purchase Cold Steel SRK 6 because of the sheath it not kydex it plastic and it contains fiberglass in time scrape up the edge of the blade I saw this one video guy specializes in metals showed us the microscopic video after he removed the blade from the sheath 100 times and you can see the damage to the edge. There's a company in Germany that specializes in making those sheaths out Kydex and he sells for 100 US p/s ouch. Do you know of company here in the US that makes these Kydex sheaths. That are affordable.
