Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

With ANYTHING in film, just get out there and do it. Nothing will be created until YOU do it. Just start...and the rest will follow. This generation has so many film and video options. Heck, you can shoot a film on your smart phone now. It's pretty incredible. Get out there!!! CREATE!!!

I’m 16 and I wanna film movies like a professional cinematographer. I realized I loved doing it when I started watching movies like hereditary and midsommar including parasite. But I also love editing too, knowing the right time to and putting uniqueness into it.

@@jonah3253 if say save up and start heading to certified film schools like one of my professor of filmography told me. Or start learning from legitimate directors on KZbin and learn their techniques while watching.

I don't know much painters and their work. I bought a book about Vincent Van Goph after seeing At Eternity's Gate (2018) dir. Julian Schnabel. Haven't gotten it in the mail yet.

I would really love to go into the cinematography field as a career but I have a more creative than technical desire. Are there other fields in film I should consider or are there simply more creative sides to cinematography?
@maverick792

Only you can answer that. Every field requires technique and creativity.

for cinematography, you need both the technical and the creative. but in the end if you want to create great work, it's the creative stuff that is going to matter.

Cinematography is creative. Deakins has said himself he doesn't care about the inner workings of the camera just what's in front of the lens. It's good to learn a bit of technical stuff tho, but it's nothing like an engineering degree, it's just using a camera and lighting you'll get it eventually. Luckily you don't need to know everything to get started or even make something good.

You may be fit for videography work for brands. If you’ve never heard of Gary Vee, go watch his videos. Also check out JR Alli. Also, just start doing stuff you have in mind and you’ll eventually find a way to make it into a job.

a freaking director haha. seriously, you are interested in a broad range of stuff about making a movie. imo that screams director. you can be a director that shoots and/or edits his own movies, like Steven Soderbergh and the Coen Brothers.

I've seen terrible work done by accomplished DP's. Its something else, not experience that drives a passionate result. I am often impressed by creative use of unusual angles to frame a shot. To me its all about composition and then maybe other elements can fall in.
@haileykurioreilly9890
@haileykurioreilly9890 Жыл бұрын
I'm not saying ur saying this but sometimes ppl say this cause they have an expectation of cinematography to be pretty or even impressive. When a film uses an unusual angle it can draw attention to the technique of cinematography. Sometimes it needs to be seamless. Cinematography is a temporal art, not a pictorial one.
