Wilco has been on the music scene for nearly two decades but, as Cynthia Bowers reports, they might be finally getting the mainstream popularity many say they deserve.

You're right, CBS. You finally get respect when you land in a car commercial. Bravo Wilco! Wow.

This is a classic example of the depth and universality in America's new musical paradigm. Literally hundreds of bands are out there poised for the right moment to come into the auditorium after such a lengthy time of beating down the doors with their instruments while the public eyes and ears have been filled with the music industry's hype groups and trend followers. The Wilco's and Black Keys of our nation are demanding their time has arrived. Clearly it has, so take notice.

i love wilco so much; they're probably my favourite band, and it's pretty much one of my life's goals to catch a show of theirs (haven't had any luck haha). whether or not wilco become even bigger than they already are makes no difference to me, as long as they continue to make the amazing music they make . . . wilco are always going to be something special!

Lets get something straight, Wilco/Jeff Tweedy got their start literally 2 miles from my fucking house in Belleville, Illinois, not fucking Chicago........
@suckLmydick7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. He's a cardinal, not a cub. (even if he pitched for them)
@drago67697 жыл бұрын
By the time Wilco formed he was living in Chicago. Yes when he formed Uncle Tupelo it was Belleville

@fenhen It's an old folk song, and the video is from Jeff's solo DVD, "Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest." It's totally worth buying.

When I was ~18yo, coming from a background in (post-)punk / garage rock, I was broadening my musical horizons and became interested in funk. Someone gave me a tape with Meters songs: "here, learn this! It's the funk 101. It's good for you." So great to see Tweedy educating his son with these deceptively simple, yet so powerful, songs. Every musician should study The Meters, and learn the art of stripping music to its core.

@dodie2casey Do you know what? I agree about the Mermaid Avenue recordings! Billy Bragg was the perfect coupling for that. As far as Son Volt's second configuration, I'm going to check that out. :)

yeah, to have their level of of fame at present day, I think would be perfectly satisfactory, personally.

they only have one album that has great pop songs.. and those are the songs they play at the end of their gig.. the rest of their music - they try to be experimental, with noise and weird dynamics.. dont get me wrong i like Wilco... but they dont try to write hits.. only people who appreciate music for its purest sake like WILCO.. Get Being There. thats their best album. Geez he looks like a kid here..
