As a European or more precisely as a German I think the problem is cultural. "Dating" isn't really a thing in Germany. Usually you have several dates and then you decide if you wanna be together. "Americans" seem to have a way longer phase of "dating" that can stretch over several months of "seeing each other". I believe that that's her "problem" with the situation that she didn't talk about how she is used to dating. For her knowing someone for 2 months and meeting them regularly in a romantic setting could very well mean that they are in a relationship and that he is her boyfriend.

Yeah it's a Europe vs. US thing. The whole term dating and what comes with it is a pretty american thing. I remember reading that back in ww2 days, american GI's saw british girls as sluts while the british girls saw the GI's as pushy. Explanation was the difference in dating culture where americans tend to have a long waiting period between the first kiss (which comes rather fast) and sex whereas in britain the kiss comes later but is soon followed by sex.

Since her name is stephanie van Berg, she's prolly Dutch. Accent also points to it, although the way she talks is annoying enough. Anyway, we are very Germanic in that sense. Clarity is life. OK, there's a lot to say here. I think hook-up culture and this "no labels" thing is popularised and more accepted recently than it was back then. She's more than 20 years older than him, she's from a different generation than he is where if you're sleeping together that assumes a level of commitment of sorts whether or not a genuine connection is there. With that being said, I'm not mad at her for "not getting it", she's a simple gal, to her - if you're sleeping together and spend a lot of time together you're in a relationship. This made sense to her. I think about this because a lot of our parents tried to marry off their daughters (and were married off themselves) because they fell pregnant young and out of wedlock or as they got older or even as a business deal between prestigious families, nobody asked these kids if there was a 'connection' or if real love was there or how they felt about these abstract ideas that categorize dating styles like it is now, it was just a different time then and the mistake she made was not evolving and adapting to the era. Not necessarily something "unsettling" about HER, just 2 people who are obviously not compatible and were not on the same page.

And this is why it is so important to communicate intention for the relationship. My husband when we were dating, very quickly said "I see you as a potential mate. What do you think about this?". We have been married for 20 years, and I am so happy that we had an open and honest conversation up front.

There is hormones that is released in the body when we fall in love. It can take up to 2 years to get these hormones out of the system. We don't know her history and why she is so attached to him. Anyway people who are depressed or are about to fall into depression can fall in this love trap. I know I did when I was 19, the guy leaded me on and then just let me fall, it was horrible and even if he treated me as trash I still had this imagination in my head that he was this and that but his actions just showed he was not really the one I feel in love with, I feel in love with who I thought he was. I just said to myself I need to get over this as fast as I can, I dealt with faced the facts, but overriding the feelings with logic was not easy, I was able to get over fairly quickly. I had so hard time concentrating on anything, I talk to friends and realized they were not my friends because they did not want to help me get over this. I just let them go. Probably this woman have some issues and this boy made her happy probably because he was very kind to her. I would not be so fast to be so hard on her. But she probably should date her own age and I think that about everyone. Myself I refused to feel like that for anyone ever again. It is not real love this intensity even if movies tell us that. Today I have been happily married to a really kind man for over 12 years.

She already knew how he felt but she kept trying to push her wants on him. Imagine having a hard time developing feelings and then when you meet someone you mesh with, they keep telling you that you’re in a relationship with him. Its kind of creepy in any circumstance for you to tell somebody that you’re dating them, even if they’ve voiced that they’re not comfortable with that. But idk. Probably the passion was hot n heavy. He was 24 & she was 42 in the first video. Been in a similar situation. I THOUGHT I was mature (I was for my age) being 25 with a TON of testosterone flowing, she was 40, knew what she wanted & was apparently still near her sexual "peak" but had life experience, maturity & a body of a woman 15+ years her junior! As a young dude (now closing in on her age when we were together), it was AMAZING compared to girls closer to my own age. His chin quivering at the end was probably due to the growth he's had in 2 years (which is probably a lot still being in his 20's) and seeing, speaking with her for the first time since then. If you're young and a guy, a May-December romance can be pretty incredible if you happen to stumble into one!

I have to disagree only because the person in the guys situation is very vague. We as people have this expectancy out of everyone to " get the hint" but not everybody gets this hint lol in fact when you are in love your blind so you can't see anything. The only way to break the trance is blunt honesty and coincidentally the person being vague not feeling the same just don't care or respect you enough to give you that so you can move on. It's sad. And I personally think it's selfish your purposely being vague because you love the attention and it feeds your ego that someone is that crazy about you which in fact in that scenario makes you a bad person.

I've never had a romantic relationship in my adult or adolescent life and I've stayed in love for years. Some people are also quite dispositioned like this and if you do have a strong bond with someone and are introverted or reclusive and don't easily connect with people you also need something to combat the loneliness I guess... I've developed so much over my 27 years in living with myself and by myself and barely any time connecting deeply and building long and lasting relationships with new people. Most things in life in their core I had to do by myself because my parents were seperated from when I was two years old and I was always going back and forth between them and only got a half sister when I was 10 with whom I do connect deeply and dearly but we do are very autonomous and independant in relation to eachother. So when I do meet someone who is special to me and strikes up these feelings it typically gets really intens and I don't blame myself for that. I am used to taking my own course so if I see another ship I truly want to sail together with then that is unique and I don't lose them out of my sight for a long time because I know that things don't just magically happen like that. I am also so much my own person who doesn't want to adapt in order to fit in that I don't easily meet people I can keep connecting with for a long period of time. I don't really like a lot of people on a deeper level honestly and I also don't feel like I'm really being liked by many people on a deep level myself. And I don't enjoy spending a lot of time on the superficial.

I loved the person for certain characteristics, e.g. unique, outgoing, confident, outspoken. The issues that first came up were small, and unfortunately get categorised into their 'good' traits. The things that I valued in that person ended up masking the shit behaviour. Therapy made me pick it apart. It's weird to think that my ability to understand abuse was impaired, but part of me knew, but psychologically I always blamed myself. If you're experiencing this, be strong. Find help, fix yourself. Yeah I been on the other end of that before. Became a shadow of myself, a clingy, pathetic girl waiting for her daily phone call to be summoned again. I'm glad i got myself out of that and rebuilt myself as a stronger person. Like hell i'll let anyone do that to me again - i won't let myself become that. Having said that, I can't be angry at the guy, I am really only angry at myself for not being stronger, standing my ground and noping out of there when things got vague and uncomfortable and the excuses came as to why he didn't want to be with me, 'but he liked me, just the future is uncertain' ect - just enough to keep me hanging. I could have had a really good few years doing fun things with different people, rather than following one guy round like a lost puppy. I learnt being obsessed with someone is not love. Thankfully, that was over a decade ago and i can put it down to immaturity. Now happily married with someone I do love more than anything.

I think as a whole it’s a European thing, I’m British and “Would you like to go out with me” is asking to be in a relationship. Dating or courting is just the early stage of being in a relationship, which you then solidify by marriage (traditionally) or living together. I think culturally it gets confusing as even the American culture of dating is starting to come over here and gets a lot of people confused.

XIII it’s true for the person being strung along with vagueness. There’s no reason to settle for an undefined relationship just because your friend with benefits may or may not want to become official later on. Too many people make these mistakes and end up being takes advantage of by proxy. It’s important for people like this to learn to accept reality and move on from the time wasters. It’s better for everyone involved
@BlakeZeb
@BlakeZeb 4 жыл бұрын
Nemmie Mi like XIII said, just because you’ve experienced it, doesn’t make it true in all cases. It’s something to watch for, and you definitely don’t have to wait around if that’s not what you want to do. But not everybody is just wasting time and not interested in a relationship. My best friend just bought a house with his girlfriend, they’ve been in a very strong relationship for 2 years now. But it started similar to this. He wasn’t ready to commit to the relationship yet, she was ready before he was but understood where he came from and didn’t constantly push it. They were like that for maybe 4 months or so before making it official. Same thing happened with my girlfriends brother. They didn’t define things or become official for like 6 months. They’ve been official for maybe a year or so, are very happy, and live with each other.
@BlakeZeb
@BlakeZeb 4 жыл бұрын
Nemmie Mi Too many people also make the mistake of giving into the pressure of someone wanting a relationship before they know if that’s what they want, and spend a lot of time in a relationship they aren’t happy with, just to come to a bitter end. For me, I like to wait until I feel like somebody knows me a little deeper before I take on the responsibility of a relationship. If we’ve been talking for a month or 2, chances are they don’t know my flaws, my desires, what I really want out of life, etc. and I don’t know theirs. It’s okay to not commit to that. It’s also okay to not wait around if that’s not what you want.

One thing I've learned is that there are two types of people when it comes to dating, and generally, neither one realizes that the other exists until there's a disconnect like this. There's the type that thinks that when you both act like you're in a relationship that means you're in one (kissing, cuddling, making out, having sex, spending a lot of time one-on-one, etc.) and no explicit "so, what are we" conversation ever enters their mind as a thing that they would have to do, because they don't understand that someone might act like they love them and behave like they're in a relationship without actually wanting one. The former don't date unless they already have feelings for the person and want commitment, otherwise what's the point? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.... It never occurs to them to question whether or not the other person is on the same page. Then there's the other type that performs those same actions, but believes that both partners aren't in a relationship until they both verbally declare it. In their mind, they're not ducks until they say they are, no matter how much they walk and quack like one, and that they can "walk" and "quack" with as many people as they like until that happens. One type declares a relationship in loving actions, one type declares it with words, and until there's a disconnect, neither one has any reason to think that the other exists. These two showcased that disconnect quite well.

I think the worst part about the two different types of dating (I definitely belong to the old school, so I'm type 1) is when they don't declare at the VERY BEGINNING what type of dating they are. This is how I ended up in a situationship that I thought I would never bring on myself. I had a conversation with a guy on the third date what kind of relationship we were looking for (closed, monogamous, committed). I even uttered a definition, which he agreed with! So I was like "cool, we are looking for the same stuff, let's proceed from there". Only for me to learn after ten dates (and passing the point of no return, which was self-evident from that definition) not only are we not together, we were never even exclusive! needless to say, I was in pure shock. Had he said that he belonged to type 2 and liked to explore his options longer, I would have terminated it right there and perhaps we might have hung out as buddies. But him agreeing with my definition, going along it all the time and then back-pedalling that we were never together and were just "dating" (I assume very casually, cause he was on one another date) is what truly triggered me. The only way I can see this kind of behavior is being led on and essentially lied to:(
@flowerbloom5782
@flowerbloom5782 4 ай бұрын
@@alexviolett I am a type 2. I realized this after going out months with a friend. I say friend cause we’re initially said we were just friends and hanging out and I needed to hear we were on a date to confirm it. I agree being clear with your expectations is important and was the first mistake we made. We agreed to be friends but then started going out and doing couple things and I was unsure with how i felt about them until I realized I loved them as a person not romantic. I think communication is key and when we both sat down and talked about where we are at our feelings and our expectations gave us both closure. We ended up agreeing not to pursue each other and remain just as friends. We finally set clear boundaries.

We are acting as if we all are phycologist reading into stuff. Like no. Did you ever think that the reasonhe even stayed with her after knowing how she felt was because he enjoyed being adored and loved so much so in a way he used her emotionally for his validation? No. Or maybe she comes from a different culture where she wasnt capable to understand his ways so she didnt get it. Or maybe she was possessive and he a fuckboy... It doesnt matter. she seems like someone who is so desperate to find love (or so afraid that they will never find it again) that when they get a glimmer of it from another person, they try to hold onto it like grim death and end up smothering it. I have some sympathy for her because she is tragic, but not malicious. She wants to pour all of her love out over someone as well, she just is impatient to find a match. I think the guy did the best he could in the situation, but he couldn't fill up that need without sacrificing his life to it, so he got out eventually. I think he was never cruel to her and tried to be as kind as he could, but in the end they didn't want the same life.

This comment. Honestly, I see a lot of my previous self in her, I acted and believed the way she did towards Pierre towards someone I know. I’m glad I got out of it.

Yeah it’s not villian in this situation and it’s just people with problems not working out.

The problem for me is that he knew what she wanted and expected, but he didn't want to give her that. Instead he complimented her and side stepped questions because he wanted to keep her around and in the hook. He should have found someone else that wanted something similar
