Bill Randolph I know that 'These Dreams' was #1. But, did you ever ask yourself, "why?" I like ballads but that song is sooooo boring. It's still played regularly on 80's stations (XM etc.). Let's admit, 'There's the Girl' is much better than the former. But even that song would've been BETTER if Ann had lead vocal.

Stephen Silva strictly in your opinion, as it's strictly my opinion that 'These Dreams' was a fantastic tune....ever really listen to the words...though Nancy didn't write it, in an interview I saw once, Ann described, and Nancy agreed, that the lyrics to 'These Dreams' described the landscape of who Nancy is inside, plus, the video for it is f-ing awesome. While 'There's The Girl' was more of a rocker, the lyrics in it are bland in the extreme--again, strictly in my opinion. Two older, fantastic tunes sung by Nancy were 'Raised on You', a great tune off of 'BeBe LeStrange, and one of my all time favorite Heart tunes, 'Nada One', off of 'Dog and Butterfly'.

Bill Randolph Musically, I like 'There's the Girl', but I agree that it is a bit repetitive and that the lyrics are nothing special. 'These Dreams', I also agree, is well written, but I just feel it needs MORE than that. The singing is bland and musically, it bores me... I'm not saying that Nancy is a horrible singer because she's not. She's just average at best. But, as you said before, it was Heart's number one song (Hot 100). Good debate!

Stephen Silva not even being able to sing half as good as Ann Wilson would still, imo, make you a pretty great vocalist. Nancy has a good voice, plus, her choice of songs, plus, the fact that it was just Nancy, a microphone and of course, her 'magic fingers' wearing out an acoustic guitar is what makes Nancy's solo CD, 'Live at McCabe's Guitar Shop' so great.

Great song, however the production crew of the later albums deserves so much credit. The sound change of Heart was obvious. Yes Heart did have influence, but the producer or producers of these later Albums certainly played a huge part. There sound completely changed and had to, to compete against other artists of this time. Kudos to the production crew.
