Hi Stace - thanks for your video I think pre-buying pushrods is a bit of a lesson that everyone has to learn it is much better to wait until you can put everything together and then measure the length you need Can I suggest that you set the adjusters on the rockers to the middle of their range and then use the mid-lift method to get the correct push rod length Good luck - have fun will look forward to your next video 👍👍

Thank you, and yes, what a lesson. The pushrods came as part of my cam kit, which was supposed to save a bit of money, but now costs more! 😂 Yep, I ended up setting the adjusters mid way to get a better pushrod length... then there's the trick of how to measure a pushrod's length...

Great videos. Try putting the lifters in a container of oil and leave overnight and they will prime
@staceonwheels2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I had left them in oil for longer than that, but it seems maybe they'll only truly prime with oil pressure? Not to worry, I'll soak them all for a week, likely, before final assembly.

Recall Holden head valve seat grinds sat valves at different heights. Very obvious when place straight edge over tips valve stems. Other influences push rod travel reground cam, shaved head and block mating surfaces.

Good info thanks. I had the intake seats cleaned up and the exhaust seats are new for unleaded. And did the straight edge trick. I reckon it's a combo of the rest you mentioned.

Lots of chances to learn things I never expected, on account of the little problems along the way. Fun, though.

@@staceonwheels I'm going to put a 253 in my HG kingswood ute .
@staceonwheels4 ай бұрын
Noice. Are you rebuilding it yourself?
@stevencrane20534 ай бұрын
@staceonwheels I might just put the v8 in and hope it's OK. The ute is getting a complete makeover, which I'll be doing all the work myself.

Enjoy and good luck with your 253.

im a newbie but was wondering if the valve seat made the extra play "? say if there was a variation in depth taken during valve grind?
@staceonwheels3 ай бұрын
That's certainly a factor. The valve seats were professionally machined, with new valves, so the valve stems could be sitting higher and tipping the rocker arms more over the pushrods, giving less freeplay... 🤔

Stace Why Do I Get The Feeling You Have Inherited A Mix-Match Engine And That's Why Nothing Works ???
@staceonwheels4 ай бұрын
Very interesting idea... it was running before I started messing with it! Personally I feel like it's just small variabilities in each component, adding up rather than cancelling each other out.
