What's also amazing is that aMSa did all of this, with a character that nobody took seriously. I honestly do believe that without aMSa, Yoshi probably still would still be seen as a low tier in melee. Through sheer determination and hard work he not only put himself on the map, not only his chatacter on the map, and he even put his own country on the map. Definitely one of the most inspirational players in Melee for me.

@@FlameIsLucky just two small improvement points for you, both on the audio front: 1) I felt like your audio for your vocals were inconsistent at times - it sounded like you recorded in two separate occasions with two different recording environments. If possible, try to record in the same environment as possible. I know that's not always possible, so see if you can do something about it in post. 2) I also felt like your vocals were a little quiet and often were drowned out by the background music. Decreasing the background music or simply increasing your vocal volume will probably help with that. Of course, there's probably many reasons for you to have these issues, that we wouldn't be able to understand, but I am sure that you only keep improving 😊

I'd like to share a very prophetic moment that occurred. You see, TBH10 was the first super major my boyfriend and I were honored to see in person, as we live close enough to travel to it. We decided we'd watch the main games online and then on Sunday we'd hit the conference center in person since it was super cheap. We get in, we move around a bit and finally get to a decent seat where we think is perfect. Right on stage left in between the middle and right monitor. The guy who was already sat there and looked over at us. "Who are you guys rooting for?" We both looked at each other and thought for a moment, and without a word exchanged both said "aMSa." See I have only been into competitive smash for a few months, but I know most of the players. I know who I like and don't like. And I know aMSa plays a mean red yoshi. Something in the air just told us this was it. This was his super major. This was the Year of the Red Yoshi. 20🥚🥚

I love when vids like these show almost a decade of melee, and you can see such a ludicrous difference in skill level between eras of melee. Yeah, the 5 gods were good, but back then you could get by on just any one of winning neutral or flowcharting or punishing with great combos. Now it's like if even one aspect of these guys' game is lacking, they're not making it into top 10 ranking. Everyone is so. Damn. Good.

In the past year I've convinced my 53 year old baseball fan dad that Melee is a sport to me. Knowing we'll continue to have new players who shape the game even now, and content creators who feel passionate enough about these stories to make videos even now is so beautiful to me. Eggscellent video right here, you did a great job building up to that final moment. There are two tiny corrections I would like to share though. First one is the Double Down was just a major, not a supermajor. Second is that Big House 10 was not the biggest supermajor ever. I assume you meant "hardest" like some people have been saying, but it had only like 1/3rd the entrants of Evo 2016 which was the true biggest.

It's easy to say it now, but Yoshi was never the problem. aMSa's other obstacles in his life were much more powerful preventing him from being the best. All he needed was a chance to be the best. He needed to be given the time, energy, practice and the support to improve himself as a player. When aMSa lost, it was because he made mistakes; mistakes that would be made less often if he had better access to these things. And much like Fox, it seems that Yoshi doesn't tolerate mistakes, but is an explosive force if you don't make them. Thanks to his time and effort, aMSa has proven both Yoshi as a character and himself as a player. Everyone that has continuously come down on Yoshi and aMSa over the years has served no purpose but to give them both battle scars and war stories.

Great documentary, it’s videos like these that introduce and keep people invested in the scene. I’m assuming this is your first documentary now that I’ve checked your channel, but I couldn’t tell _at all_ while I was watching. Just two comments on the writing: 1. I would’ve liked to see more spotlight on the players Amsa was beating. Touching on things such as Loser’s Mang0, Hbox forcing people to switch to Fox, and Soonsay playing the hottest we had ever seen him, etc. would’ve added some extra context to his wins-especially for casual/new viewers. Granted, that probably would’ve bloated the length of the video pretty damn fast, but even some highlights of Soonsay fucking up Leffen or something would’ve gone a long way to make people think, “Wait, Amsa beat _this_ guy?” 2. The way you higlighted Amsa’s history with Mang0 was **really** fucking smart. It took me a bit to process why you were talking so much about one of the more favored player matchups for Amsa, but all of it just simultaneously came together when the doc looped back around to Big House. Great way to show any doubters that Big House was hard as shit even if Amsa didn’t fight Plup, Wizzy, iBDW, etc.

For the portions of 20:16 - 21:34 and 22:54 - 23:27 and 28:22 - 30:45 and 31:18 - 31:58, _CONSIDER_ syncing the music to the gameplay/action/text/etc. on the screen: find the beat, tempo, lyric, or whatever and go off on that for transitions between different cuts of a fight, the transition between the set, the current score, and so forth. It is substantially more work to do so, but it noticeably improves those sections where you're letting the story tell itself. Just don't overdo it like I do where folks feel sick after watching those segments. 8:45 - 9:46 and 32:13 - 33:11 is fine since there's narration the entire time; would've been enhanced by syncing as well but that usually gets drowned out by the casters' commentary so it's a tough call You should also consider doing an outro. Even if it's just something short like: "Written & Edited by FlameIsLucky", listing the songs in order (or just putting them in a corner when they're playing), plus that subscribe interactive button and a latest video or something like that. Normies don't go to folks channels and take a gander for more videos: they see next video and neutron activation takes hold after that. Putting Chapters will also help, though it's not necessary: KZbin just gives good boy points for it and algorithm pushes when it's included. *or don't.*

I'll be curious on where he ranks this season. It's clear he's Top 5 for sure, personally I'd put him 3rd going by results and an edge in H2H

I've watched like 4 of these TBH10/aMSa docs and this was probably my favorite one. I tear up in every one but bringing in all that backstory about school, growing the japanese scene, etc just hit different

Melee is still the best ssb. I just recently started using Slippy emulator and playing online after taking a few years hiatus and i am in love all over again. So many good players to fight. I just wish there was an in game chat and an ability to have a friends list

Honestly kind of criminal he wasn't ranked anywhere near T10 for so long. Routinely beating T20 players, several wins over one of the Gods and T10 players, repeat close matches with Mango. Absolutely criminal he was probably ranked lower than deserved simply because he couldn't participate in as many CONUS events. He had more than enough history to not discount them as fluke wins.
