That is easily the most clickbaity thumbnail I have ever used for this channel, but the thesis of this video is, "Simpsons Comics are awesome and weird," so I may as well lean into it. That Patty and Selma story is so dang weird, I had to discuss it for this video. 😉 (Also I updated my editing software recently and the HD codecs were being ridiculously glitchy, so this video ended up in 720p. I don't think it matters much because a higher video quality doesn't really benefit these scans of comics and episode screenshots. I just got tired of fighting with the software (delayed me 2 days) and this will have to do. There are still a couple super quick glitches that made it into this final product. Hopefully I will get this straightened out for the next one.)

Man, this brought back some nostalgia. When I was 12, I had just started getting into The Simpsons, and I also identified a lot with nerd culture, and felt the need to partake in the cliche nerd likes comic books trope. But I didn’t much care for superheroes. I was captivated by the cover art for the Simpson’s comic books at a local news stand and I was hooked. I picked up nearly every issue that came out over those next few years, and was even gifted some classic ones from my uncle, also a big fan. This video makes me want to revisit them, as I’ve forgotten a lot of the stories.

For future videos related to the comics, it'd be great to see one focused on what you lightly touched on already, the return of one-off characters. For all I know, it could be limited to Leon Kompowsky, Hank Scorpio, and Very Tall Man (who I just learned is based on and named after writer Ian Maxtone-Graham), but if there are more to be found among the pages, it'd be a fun journey to go on.

In that one Bart was Light, and Lisa was L, while much more recently when they did a Death Note parody in an actual Treehouse Of Horror episode they switched the roles. Krusty was also Ryuk.

I still wouldn't buy them for myself as a grown man but I'd get them for my kids and if I ever read one out of boredom, it wouldn't make me want to blow my brains out like a casual watch of a random Simpsons episode.

the new ones looks cleaner because its drawn digitally, as back in the good ol' days they were done in actual paper, also printing techniques are a thing to strongly consider. the comics reflects the mass printing techniques of each era, also the perception of comics. so thats why the new ones are "graphic projects" thought as books and the old ones have a "newspaper" vibe. i honestly prefer the old ones because of the textures and colors, as for the new ones they simply look to "higienic".

One of the jokes I always remember from one of the comics is that Homer started painting his body in place of wearing clothes leading to him getting arrested. But Chief Wiggum lets him out and says "You're right, Simpson. The restaurant does say no shoes, no shirt, but it doesn't say anything about no pants." That, and one joke from the Simpsons/Futurama crossovers that I remember. As they're all falling to their deaths. Random robot: Parachute rentals! Anyone for a parachute rental? Professor Farnsworth: No! What do I look like, a tourist?

I LOVED Simpsons comic when I was a kid. I remember first borrowing some of the compilation books from my local library and then begging my parents to buy me the Simpsons magazine (which is how the comics were sold in the UK). Many of my favourite stories were the Treehouse of Horror ones, but I also remember a story where everyone in Springfield became superheroes, which, as a Spider-Man obsessed 8-year old, I loved. I also used a lot of the comic covers to learn how to draw by basically copying them into my little sketchbook. So, I actually have a lot of nostalgia for these books which is surprising to me since I completely forgot about them until this video.

The Simpson comics I'll always remember both are steeped in jabs at Brits like me There was one where a...bizare mix of Gordon Ramsey and Jaime Oliver took over the cafeteria and made everything vegan. And for some reason thought every praise Lisa said was actually sarcasm so banned her from eating. And it was later revealed the chef was secretly fat and was just hoarding the 'good' food for himself Then there was the one where Lisa essentially became Springfield's mayor after a school project on making mock 'Vote blank for mayor' signs was spread all around town because her partner for the project was Ralph and Snowball got ellected. Then Lisa banned guns, much like that one Treehouse of Horror episode...only instead of undead cowboys, the British invade. And promptly leave when politely asked too.

Well Jim, like you I didnt have a lot of experience with the comics themselves when I was a kid. I remember once in a great while, I would be able to convince my mom to let me get a copy of some comic that I found. I for the life of me couldn't remember any of the stories, but I do remember the stories being fun when I was able to read them.

I've reading a lot of Simpson Comics during the first Covid Year and they were mostly good, to the point that I feel they were the original continuation, even more than the new animated episodes
