SWFL Eagles-Forged In Fire! E22 Fledges! Loggerhead Shrike's Relentless Attacks

In this video, you can see what happened prior to E22 fledging. Harriet and M15´s youngest eaglet was struck by an owl twice, first at 1:14 AM and six minutes later at 1:20 AM. E22 fell to the lower branches of the nest tree. At 9:24 AM and after being repeatedly dived bombed by a loggerhead shrike for over two hours (I streamed a live video) E22 fledged by flying towards the front pine. Congratulations E22! A loggerhead shrike continued to pester E22 therefore, Junior decided to fly across the road and land on the roof top of a house. After exploring the neighborhood, the youngster returned to the nesting area but landed on a power pole 😬 and eventually made it back to the nest tree but to a branch below the nest! (Another video). The findings in this video are my personal opinions based on my observations. Please take my findings with a grain of salt! This video was recorded on Saturday, April 1st of 2023. At the time this footage was recorded, E21 was 87 days old and was last seen on 3/31/2023. E22 was 84 days old. This is a public video. You may share it at your discretion. E22 is flying beautifully! Good to see wings were not injured in the owl strike. Now it’s for this little eaglet to learn how to navigate and feed . Hopefully M15 will see his little one and be on hand .. may they meet up at the pond.

Wow that was so beautiful! The sharpness made E22 shine like a rock star 🤩 I heard the 1st owl strike, rewound then continued watching all nightlong worrying if E22 was alright. The "crying" finally stopped from E22 and it could get some rest. It was just before 4am pacific time I let out a sigh of relief when E22 moved around. I sure wish E21 would make an appearance soon. Beautiful…joyful! National Geographic needs to hire you for capturing the essence of the SWFL eaglets. I noticed for the first time with the first ‘launch’ the quick need to coordinate the legs . E22 didn’t pull the ‘landing gear’ up right away but quickly figured it out! Bravo!

I hope M can tempt him out this morning so that he can eat and gather his strength and courage again. They've already survived against all odds. It's not uncommon for them to be gone this long after first flights. Remember they can go for a couple of days without eating. M15 knows where they are! I've been watching since Season 1. Their fledge is something too celebrate!!, not make inappropriate comments, besides how do you know they won't survive? What are your credentials? How many papers have you published in peer reviewed journals?

Harriet was a wonderful Mother and M raised them the last month ALONE! That's unheard of actually. They are doing great and will be just fine.

They don't leave yet M still has to feed them. Worried about E21 who is not back yet. They can't survive on their own. They still have to perfect their flying skills. Takes a year to learn to catch prey They steal food or eat carrion which is road kill.

He didnt fledge by choice He was forced out by owls attacking and other birds He is injured, stressed starving crying and not moving there is nothing to celebrate here!
