2014 Kia Soul Exclaim - Redline: Review

I have no clue why people hate this car so much. It's actually the last boxy and most aerodynamic of all the box cars. The Nissan Cube is an acquired taste, to say the least (though I like it). The Honda Element is not bad. The xB may not be attractive, but it's fuel economy and roomy interior paint a different picture. Yet, people like the Volkswagen Beetle, which is probably the ugliest, roundest piece of shit I've ever looked at.

Wait, who hates this car? Car Gurus ranks this as the highest rated compact car on the market and a top 5 for best cars for the money spent. It universally gets high praise. The styling of the car is great, you just need to get the correct trim and color. Red and Blue looks stunning with 18 inch wheels. The Green color is odd and the white color is too common and vanilla.

I drive a 2015 base with the 6 speed. It's so perfect! Smooth transmission, spunky little engine, and super spacious!

My orange sport Soul turns heads everywhere. its a few inches taller then most so good if your tall like 6'3" with lots of room front and back. Cargo the seats drop down in a second to a very flat large load surface. My two Goldens love it with one side of the split seat down.

holy shit... this almost isnt fair to the competition... and i never even liked the soul but this one is just brilliant as far as i can see. heated steering wheel and rear seats? all soft touch interior? good looks etc... god damn.

bought a 2014 kia soul exclaim with whole shabang package including rear spoiler. This car is a dream to drive. Has features cars twice the price dont. And I'm getting 34 mpg. I still get 33 MPG MOSTLY OPEN AND COUNTRY ROADS. Love the car even more now. only thing I regret is not WAITING for 1.6 turbo. lol

biker dad My man, I'm REALLY sorry to hear that. yeah that mpg is horrible. just suggestion is tire pressure OK? I have exclaim with 18 wheel. I keep my pressure in winter at 37 psi Summer 35 psi. good luck and New year

I was given a 2012 Soul to drive as a rental while my fleet vehicle was in the shop. I surprised myself and liked it. It was a lot peppier than I expected. I could see this vehicle working for my wife's commute to work. I enjoyed your review.

Hows it treating you so far? I really respect the looks, quality, size, and price of this car but im kind of concerned about highway ride (75-80) and the power with the normal 1.6 and manual because ive seen 0-60 times around 11 seconds

This review was spot on! With being the current owner of one of those box cars you listed (a 2010 Cube) all the points you made were very valid.Cube and xB are growing extremely old on the new car market with Cube not being updated since its release in 2009 and xB only having one redesign in almost 10 years. Kia Soul definitely deserves class leader status overall. Yeah the fuel econmy sucks compared to the Cube, Fit, etc. But that extra weight gives the new Soul a more upscale feeling and less "tin can" ish if you understand what Im saying. In conclusion, Sofyan really understands the Kia Soul and its place in the market because that's who the car is targeted to/for. Middle-aged men reviewing the Soul from Cars.com or Autobytel just dont understand the point and can't give an accurate review for the targeted buyer.

My wife and I will have a Soul next year. We're an older couple and it makes since for our life style. The mpg is disappointing. I commute in a '05 Honda Civic that gives me 33mpg in town. Wish the Soul had higher numbers, but I can live with these numbers. Gen Y-er's? We're baby boomers and really dig the looks of this vehicle! LOL

A turbo Kia Soul would be wonderful. They should definitely put the gama 1.6 Turbo engine on the Soul. Kia released the Kia Soul special edition "Red Zone". That model looks amazing inside and out. That special edition should have that turbo engine...

i just picked up a 2014 RedZone. love it! wish someone would do a review on it inside and out... if Kia were to give the Soul a 1.6L turbo it would most def be the Red Zone, although they only made 2,000 of them. just glad i was able to get my hands on one before they sold out in Dallas :)

QUESTION: I live down here in sunny Florida. I want to get the ! but with that giant panoramic sunroof, it looks like it doesn't have a cover so it can not take in as much heat. is there one for the 2014 soul ! ? I really hope so because this car is pretty neat!

My wife's 2016 Soul + gets an average of about 26 MPG combined which doesn't sound all that great. However, my 2009 Nissan Versa Hatchback with the 1.8 Liter engine gets only 28 MPG combined so this 26MPG doesn't both me a bit. I inherited my wife's 2012 Versa sedan which gets real good gas mileage of up to 40 MPG on the highway & averages around 32 MPG combined which is great but the damn car only has like an 8 or 10 Galloon fuel tank so I am constantly at the gas station. I am thinking of trading in the Versa sedan for another Kia Soul, I like it a lot better than the Versa.

I find it interesting that your opinions are based on a very short driving history and miles that you have driven vehicles under various conditions. The same the suspension was tweaked different platform is used same as in the C'eed/Forte . Soul is a few inches wider and longer. If you get the Umber package you get a better material leather seating.

21.8 mpg average? Do you recall if that was for the 6000 miles on the odometer? or for the most recent trip? Because if 21.8 is for 6000 miles... I just lost interest.

+tastyorange Since this was a loaner press car, the auto journalists tend to drive test drive these cars hard, so mpg will be low since it averages the lifetime mpg. Plus, this was reviewed in the winter/snow, reducing the mpg even more.

I have the 2014 Exclaim model with the Sun and Sound package in Fathom Blue and it has everything you just saw on the video with the exception of no push to start, no heated or cooling seats ( I live in Florida, no need for anything heated lol) and no leather seats,and yes it does have a backup camera, its part of the Sun and Sound package.
