Nice review and a very interesting looking rod - just as a heads up; about 80% of Japan's main island is covered in mountain trout streams. It's estimated that there are at least 20,000 fishable streams suitable for the style you see in the Japanese videos. Paul.

In US, there should be more than 20,000 fishable streams suitable for the Japanese style , US territory is much larger than Japan
@FishingDiscoveries2 жыл бұрын
@@KungfuSlingshot Sure thing, I was just pointing out that many people don't realise that the majority of Japan is mountain wilderness - and the idea there's only a few places suitable to fish in that style isn't quite right.

@@FishingDiscoveries I live here in Japan. I can testify to your statement. The amount of mountain streams here are quite immense. While the US has more land mass, The amount of actual accessible mountainous terrain for angling is more comparable than many realize. If not for this, there would be no reason for JDM BFS to be all the rave. Just sayin'

@@justinkayce9811 I'm not jealous at all!!! (well, OK, maybe). The time was when I'd come to Japan every year to fish and learn about the mountain-culture surrounding that. It would be good to make some more trips in the future when the opportunity arises. Paul

I don’t have this one but I have another Dankung rod. The CHUSHI Fiberglass graphite flick casting rod. Mine has a graphite bottom half and a fiberglass upper half. I landed a 15 in brown trout on it last week. Great fight. I can recommend Dankung. Seems like a good company.

Speaking of Ugly Stiks, I have a old Ugly Stik from the 1970s that stays set out in my pond everyday except winter. I catch turtles with it. I bait it every morning and evening. I caught a big snapping turtle day before yesterday and another yesterday. I’ve got more turtles than bass. Living right next to a lake my pond overflows into gives me a constant supply of the evil critters. I use that rod and a Shakespeare reel because if it’s stolen I didn’t lose much. My ponds right next to the road. Fixing to go check it now.

@@THEREELTEST those old ones are indestructible unless you slam them in a door. That’s why I still have it. One of them will weigh about as much as 3 high quality rods by todays standards. They’re good for catfishing and that’s all I’d use it for. It’s my turtle pole. I caught another turtle after I said I was going to check my rod from the previous post. 3 in 3 days. Didn’t get one today. I wish I knew someone close by who eats turtle. I’d keep them well fed.

I recently inherited a vintage 4'6" South Bend full fiberglass casting rod (old style, with the recessed reel seat). When I saw it I immediately thought of putting my Zephyr on it. I'm not sure I'd enjoy using a rod that short, I have a couple 5'6" UL spinning rods for small water, and that's about as short as I'm comfortable with. I'm not familiar with flick casting though, I might have to try that out some time, especially since I'm about to move somewhere it could be useful.

I recently bough some glass rods just to try, 1. Finetail Glass Model FSG-B422UL 2 pieces 2. Daiwa Silver creek glass progressive 46 and the Palms Egeria NATIVE ETVC-42XUL 2 pieces. I actually like it. I only fished them probably few hours total except the palms which i just recently acquired. They are not the sensitive as my other rods which has 100% carbon per company claims but they are more fun using a bait that has a treble hook. Great Video.

You need a lh retrieve or cast with left hand . if you will get serious with creek fishing that time swapping hands the lure will be out of target zone or create slack in your line

@@THEREELTEST sorry if I made it sound like a hole comment . It was just a suggestion if you look at most creek bfs fisherman they cast and reel with opposite hand . In my experience in fast moving creeks you will get hung up or there was too much slack in the line using a sinking minnow when i cast and retrieved with same hand .

Your advice is not without a bit of merit. Here in Japan, your advised method is used for fishing the elusive Yamame (trout) or similar fast striking species. The entire point and origins of bfs in trout fishing is decreased delay from that of spin by using baitcasters that can cast the lighter lures. Yamame normally strike immediately, so anglers here look for any advantage to cut down delay. This is only the story, and not meant to mean that the same implied method is correct for all bodies of water nor all species of fish.

SO CLOSE! 😭 The standard BFS rod length is 3 feet 8 inches for fishing in close quarters. If this guy can shorten the length, I'd buy one in a second! These rods are NOT easy to get but I'm not settling for a rod that's too long at that price point. I want 3.8 or nothing, if this is going to be my style of fishing.

I own dozens of glass rod’s! And love them! most of which are specially built custom rods to suit a specific purpose using premium quality Australian blank’s! and I have to say that a glass rod that I build for a purpose can’t be out fished with carbon! Ultimate recovery and light weight aren’t a benefit for all scenarios! The action of solid glass having more weight can alter the movement of a bait when twitching and the cast character for low power casting can be more forgiving! And even for heavy tackle glass has it’s place! I’d rather hold on to a solid glass broom handle of a rod locked with 100lb braid dealing with kingfish and dogtooth than some g loomis wank rod or t curve piece of going to break crap
