Many of the stories can be backed up with archeological evidence. Also, the Bible is only a book and so it can't speak for itself. It is the Catholic Church who claims it to be true. One interesting fact of note is that God in the Old Testament claims to be Subsistence-Existence in the burning bush. The Jews had no idea about this concept. Subsistence-Existence is what God has to be according to Philosophy
