She said around 21:00 that so many Christians have separated the work of the Spirit from the character of Jesus and it’s resulted in a focus on gaining favour from God rather than living a cross-shaped life. I’ve noticed that a lot in the charismatic seeker church I recently left: they constantly cry out for the Holy Spirit to “move” and fill them, but they don’t talk about following Jesus or being a disciple. They chase mystical experiences through worship music and spiritual formation practices, but they never pick up their cross, so they’re always feeling empty.

Thanks, great conversation! Really helpful. Michael Rountree, just so you know, my 3 year old son is your greatest fan, and gets super excited whenever Remnant Radio is on and he hears you, so you must not be that "forgettable". He's actually pretended he was you before preaching lol. Thanks for being role models for my 6 kids. As a busy mom I am so thankful I have the blessing of listening.

I love Tania's thoughtful discussion of this foundational topic. Though I couldn't ordain her as an elder because of my convictions on women in office, I would seek her counsel as often as I could. KZbin is a wonderful way for her to be "Priscilla " to a whole lot of men in ministry. This topic MUST be taught and modeled in the church and Tania seems to be the "Jack Deere" of this moment in our history. Thanks guys. Your ministry blesses me over and over again.

Timely episode, thankful for Dr. Harris and her work. I just watched Jenn Nizza's interview on the Michael Knowles show and there is a lot there to consider about the demonic copy of the Holy Spirit, God's voice, and Prophecy from a woman who was a psychic. I like what Dr. Harris said about how we don't screen God's voice for what we want and how we test everything against the character of God as demonstrated by scripture. These are helpful tips to judge prophecy and seek God's voice in a healthy way.

Coming from a past WOF false teaching for over Twenty years i have had to retrain, reteach, relearn pretty much everything that had been preached to me from the pulpit, it was the American Gospel movie that helped me to know the truth as well as good biblically based men of God sharing & teaching the Word of God. Then i could read the bible in its proper context, i had trusted man too much from the pulpit...relied on their interpretations then reading the bible from their prospective. In saying that I've also had to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water, this i find very hard at times being a layman & so not a scholar like yourselves. 😌 I get concerned when i hear, " God said!" That little senstense has been said so many times to manipulate, convince & control people. I did like this interview, thank you, it helped clarify a few things & it also helped me to keep on listening even though its not audible...as its not. 🙏

These guys at Remnant radio are great at avoiding extremes like WOF. I would caution you that underlying the American Gospel movie is a different set of false teachings that deny the power of God, although it does expose the error of the prosperity gospel. However, the safest way is to study the bible itself without relying too much on teachers opinions. Use that as the test of what is true and ask God to lead you.

Just one point from a biblical studies nerd. Around the 50:00 minute mark, she says that while Peter is having his vision, a day's walk away, another man is having a vision of an angel. Cornelius' vision was the day before. When Peter was having his vision, Cornelius' men were arriving at Simon the Tanner's house in Joppa. Maybe I'm just a perfectionist Bible nerd, but when people don't know the biblical story well enough to keep it straight, it makes me question their knowledge of interpretation and application.
@roseroyaltyy
@roseroyaltyy Жыл бұрын
About a minute and a half earlier she says that after seeing the vision the men were at the door, so I don’t think she has an incorrect understanding of the passage. I think you’re reading into it a bit much… Even though it’s sounds like it, I don’t think she literally meant it to be the exact same time. Sometimes when people explain things they cut corners or misspeak without realising.

"Every time I'm convicted of my sin; every time God speaks to my heart about an attitude or a behavior; calls me to forgive; calls me to lay down my pride; calls me to be generous instead of be greedy; every time God calls me to step out of my comfort zone to speak to a stranger-that's the Spirit at work. It's just that we don't always label it as such." (15:55ish). I *think* the only things that the Holy Spirit certainly speaks to all believers are (a) things that only Christians can do; and (b) things which the devil would never tell someone to do. The first five things she mentioned are in that category for sure. The last one may or may not be, depending on what's underlying it. A Christian (like myself) may become discouraged if he or she is waiting for personal direction beyond the organic fruit of the Spirit. But I think Dr. Harris did a good job planting it all in that soil. Thoughts??

The Holy Ghost convicts the world of sin, not believers. John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: I am forever praising and believing Jesus is the Christ, and this is pleasing to God.

In regard to the sufficiency of scripture, it seems as though the scriptures are sufficient in as much as they were intended to be used. But common sense would suggest that in another broader sense scripture (in complete isolation) is not sufficient, if by sufficient we mean exhaustive. We need brains to comprehend the scripture, we need the Holy Spirit to lead us, we need the church to help us discern etc. None of these are strictly speaking "scripture" but they are spoken of within scripture.
@aperson4057
@aperson4057 Жыл бұрын
A great point. For example, it is just common sense to know that Scripture does not answer directly many theological questions that arise from doing theology. It doesn't answer every ethical question that has arisen in societies and individual choices. It does not clarify even its own passages (as the writers just assumed that the readers, which wasn't us, would just understand). And on we can go with so many examples that sufficiency does not mean sufficient. With this, the charismatic evangelist Reinhard Bonnke said "It's very hard to get the doctrine of a silent God from Scripture".

Excellent insights! However, in regard to what Tania said about Cyrus being an Old Covenant template and therefore not applicable as a template for modern day political leaders in the New Covenant age, this seems like a flaw in logic. If this were true then most of the "templates" or illustrations used in the New Testament would be invalid. The gospel writers portrayal of Jesus as the new Elijah, or the new Moses or communion being a new "manna" etc. Regardless of whether God intended to use Trump as a "Cyrus", the idea that he never would because Cyrus lived during the Old Covenenant seems to me to be wrong on the face of it. In fact I'm fairly certain God does use certain modern day political leaders as "Cyruses" in that they don't really know God and yet they are used to bring about the purposes of his kingdom.

@@robertcoupe7837 perhaps you know already, but generally already/not yet is about whether the Kingdom is present or future. Better, how much is it present and how much is it future? @@paulral I was not aware that some Pentecostals were Historicists. Historicism is the view that I have adopted to defend in our Bible study, but it seems the most unlikely. When I checked in Rome, the Pope was still sitting there, and Christianity is still 52% Roman Catholic. “They” say that Catholics invented Futurism to thwart all that Pope is the Beast stuff. Chuck Smith and the Jesus People really changed the Pentecostal formula.

I didn’t care for her answer when it came to prophetic messages from New Covenant believers based on Old Covenant principles. Jesus was Present at the beginning and will be to the end of the world. Her answer sounded like she’s embracing progressive views which mistakenly claim that God didn’t have wrath or execute judgement because Jesus didn’t do that.

“Use the frame of reference from the old covenant” 37:00 Not sure I follow her logic here. It seems like she has an unstated presupposition that she takes as a foundational truth. @@SeerSeekingTruthWhen Jesus said "call no man teacher" it would seem he was speaking figuratively and not literally. If he were speaking literally, then Luke would have wrong to refer to certain men as "teachers" in Acts 13. Presumably Jesus was referring to a kind of undue attention to a particular person as "THE AUTHORITY." If that is the case, then having certain titles in and of themselves would not be wrong, so long as they were not intended to convey a kind of unchallengeable authority. And I'm pretty sure neither Remnant Radio nor this woman were intending to convey anymore than that she has studied and gained a lot of understanding in this area of theology.

I lean toward the cessationist side of things, believing that the sign gifts are much rarer than those on the charismatic side would have us believe; however, I very much acknowledge that the Creator of the universe can and will use whatever He pleases, however and whenever He pleases. I find Wayne Grudem's explanation of "New Testament prophecy" incomprehensible and incongruent with scripture. Dr. Harris' standards and expectations for biblical grounding and discernment, combined with an understanding of the human capacity for self-deception, would silence many of today's prophets. I believe it is the very public failure to exercise these kinds of standards that drives people into the cessationist camp.
@debras3806
@debras3806 Жыл бұрын
With all due respect, it is ignorant to be driven into cessationism by the false imitation of the gifts. Paul wrote to a church obsessed with the gifts and using them wrongly: “Use them rightly” (1 Cor 12-14). - not stop using them.

Hummm , on Peter amd his vision. I see the Jews were at fault thinking the blessings were to them only. God never said that. In the Torah, the blessings are extended to the foreigner/alien who join, love with, submit to the Yahweh. I see the New Covenant as the forced hand of God to make that happen. If Israel had repented after Babylon and were a blessing to the nations, and welcomed others including the Messiah, all OT prophecy would have been fulfilled and the end of the OT age would have ushered in the return of Christ.
