How do we get to the conclusion of generational spirits scripturally and not anecdotally?

GOD SPEAKING against what we call “generational curses”. “The one who sins is the one who will die. (The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. )The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.” ‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭18‬:‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

"...of those who hate me..." I wonder how this conversation would have gone if those words were not left out of the poorly ascribed scriptural justification attempts. Ezekiel 18 should be evaluated as well.

Listening to this reminded me of the scripture that says that Jesus spoke as one having authority and not like the scribes and pharisees. Mathew7: 28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Mark 1:22 “And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.”

Even though you don't want to use the word possessed because it implies ownership - your description of a Christian who is "demonized" can look exactly like someone who we would call possessed in the Bible - where a demon is controlling the actions of the person and speaking through them. But this never happens to a Christian in the Bible - nor does Paul ever teach about needing to cast demons out of Christians. I disagree with obfuscating over terms - look at the examples.

After marrying a narcissistic ticking time bomb, I took my 3 children and ran,after 15 years of trying to make our marriage work. After we got away, I just collapsed and went to a psychiatric clinic for 2 weeks. I hadn't picked up a cigarette for 17 years, but I found myself smoking again. That was about 10 years ago, and I'm still smoking. I fear that it is blocking my relationship with my beautiful Saviour. I don't know how to stop. Help me out guys

"The eye is the lamp of the body..." What you look at in your heart becomes magnified. Resentment is captured territory of the soul. Forgive and be forgiven. Get rid of the evil eye of resentment and see with the light of Christ. Conform to Col 3, asking God to help with this as often as needed.

Sin is many times learned and demons come into a persons life by invitation as a person yields to sin. In Ezekiel it says the son will not die for the sins of the father if the son does not practice the sin of the father. It also says in the same Ezekiel chapter if the son sees the sins of his father and does not do them he will not be judged. Sins are learned and practiced in generational sins.

So far I'm hearing the person mentioned his experiences (outside of actual scripture) and then he discusses scripture that are taken out of context- leaving out the scripture clearly stating that no longer would the children be part of the generation of curses but we will all individually be responsible for our own sins. I don't think he actually supports generational curses by his own teachings and reasoning- especially since he leaves out very clear scripture that refutes his own talking points.

Visiting the sins on future generations does not mean passing on a desire to do that sin. The Hebrew word for visiting here means to punish/judge. In other words, your sinful behavior can result in your children experiencing God's judgement if they adapt the same contempt and hatred for God.

44:20 In Jesus we have an example of someone taking responsibility for sin not his own. Perhaps it shouldn't seem such a foreign concept to us in other contexts
@AaronThinks

Sorry, I think that's a bad example. Jesus could deal with the sins of all mankind because he was the second Adam, the spiritual head of the new creation, he was God and the only one perfect enough to pay the penalty. No normal person can fulfill the same role

@AaronThinks I'm not equating them. Of course no one is in the same category as Christ. What I'm equating is for example old testament kings and prophets repenting for the previous sins of the nation. Ample justification there, also for us repenting on behalf of our own nations.
@AaronThinks
@AaronThinks 3 сағат бұрын
@zephan1q847 again, I don't think it is the same. Israel was a special case where God dealt with an entire nation as a collective whole. I think that changed in the new covenant, where God's people is not defined by a specific people group or border. I think God is primarily dealing with us as individuals, not as members of a nation

In a scenario where there are still practicing occultists within a family, and there is a coming against those in Christ who have broken away, are those individuals who are saved under any subjection to the effects of curses ongoing? What about children or adolescents who are immature and struggling with their faith? Are they subject to those curses or are they under spiritual covering of parents?

Job is one of the most interesting books. I lean towards that it’s a parable book because it’s in the Wisdom collection but it’s hard to wrap my mind around the theology of God allowing Satan to do what he did.

The issue is not whether a believer can be possessed, influenced, oppressed, or not. The issue is about Sound Biblical Epistimology according to Biblical Worldview! In my opinion, Truth is that which corresponds to the Objective Reality of the Written Word of God, and the Right Interpretation & Proper Application of it in the light of the Holy Spirit who is The Guide to the Knowledge of the Whole Truth.

I think my issue with using Old Covenant scripture to back up the idea of "generational curses" is that Jesus came to fulfill the entire old covenant that ended in death, and the new covenant is with the Holy Spirit which brings life. 2nd Corinthians 3:6 "He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant-not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." If you give your life to Christ, how can it be possible that your non believing fathers sins can give you a curse? 2nd Corinthians 5:17 "“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." When Jesus said "It is finished" He meant that he fulfilled what was a foreshadow of what God desired with humanity, which is reconciling man to God once again. I will leave it here with this scripture that I feel completely demolishes the dogma of curses. Galatians 3:13 "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, because it is written: Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed." I think if we sin, we need to make it right by repenting. Renouncing our fathers sins is just nonsensical and unbiblical in my opinion.

27 min mark- how do we know the Canaanite daughter was a young child? That’s the basis for his statement of generational curse. Also, concerning the boy in Mk 9:14-29, there’s nothing there that indicates he’s a child. The father says he’s been like this since childhood which wouldn’t be said if he was still a child & when child is used in vs 24 it’s referring to relationship not age.

Straight up, I don't care about Biblical exegesis when it comes to this topic. It's not what you know, it's what you can do. All respect to Brother Fish for what he can do. He also happens to know a thing or two about the Bible. When Christian scholars and ministers decide to confront the Reality of the "Telepathy Tapes", and offer a good argument for what's behind that phenomena, maybe then will I listen to more Biblical blah blah blah...

The Bible is an amazing, Numinous collection of sacred Jewish writings. Including the Christian section. It does not contain the mysteries of all the Realms, scientifically or otherwise. That doesn't mean that Jesus isn't the Master of All the Realms. But we certainly are not. Even armed with the Word of G-d.
