I've said it before and I'll say it again - the greatest gift Klopp gave to Liverpool fans was the timing and manner of his departure. Yes, the accomplishments were great, but it could have all come crashing down if he had allowed his ego to override his judgment on the best way (for the health of the club) for him to leave. To stay one more year to overhaul an ageing midfield, and leave after that in spite of being well placed to win more, is one of the greatest acts of selflessness in recent football memory. I have no idea why he doesn't have a statue outside Anfield or a stand named in his honour already.

Regarding the discussion about Amorim, I agree with Micah. You spent several minutes talking about how well Iraola has done at Bournemouth, yet when he first came in they had a huge drop off in form as they struggled to get used to his system. Now he has coached those players for 18 months, and brought in his own players, they are flying. Amorim needs the time and a summer transfer window to mould the team in his image. But, as a Liverpool fan, I hope he gets to do that in the Championship!

Man utd's problem isn't necessarily a 'lack of legs' in midfield. The Forest game, Arsenal game, Wolves game and even Newcastle shows the real problems - awful at defending crosses/set pieces and defending the wings. When Mainoo + Ugarte have started together in the premier league, they usually have a huge majority of possession, and the team creates a decent amount of shots/chance creation so they are doing what they need to do, teams just attack the space behind the wing backs and get balls across the box. Doesnt help that Martinez has been off it, and Maguire isn't quick enough to run back to his goal.

The same thing absolutely did not happen to Newcastle last season Al, Newcastle didn’t suffer because of the Champions League, if you actually go and look back Newcastle’s injury crisis started right towards the start of the campaign, you only have to look at the players they had missing in Champions League games to realise that. They ended up having to play with makeshift back fours all season long and 17 year old Lewis Miley in the middle of the pitch. Wilson, Joelinton, Pope, Trippier, Barnes, Targett, Willock, Murphy, Krafth and even at one point Isak all had multiple weeks and in some cases months out… very little of those injuries were down to Champions League, add on top of that Tonali being banned for 10 months. That is why Newcastle struggled in the league. They literally had the most players lost to injury in the entire season, and as I said the majority were long-term from the first half of the season before much football had actually been played. It’s a lazy media narrative that Newcastle struggled with the games, Newcastle were actually robbed, had that poor excuse for a penalty not been given then Newcastle in all likelihood would either have gone through or gone into the Europa League, it would have been PSG eliminated

Goalhanger guys, hopefully you'll see this question for a future podcast: Is surgery really required and actually beneficial? I have a friend who's a surgeon who recommends avoiding surgery at all costs (and he should know, right?!) Is it just a case of the club / player _hoping_, through surgery, to get back to fitness as soon as possible, and is there any evidence that these interventions do reduce recovery time / extend playing time? (I accept it's difficult to answer given that you can't do surgery and not do surgery for the same individual / injury … Maybe a deeper dive video/interview some day?)
@Robert.SheardАй бұрын
I’m no surgeon, but as someone who has destroyed an ACL, I think it depends on your ultimate goal. If you want to play again, some surgeries would be necessary. You can’t do your ACL and ever play again if you don’t have surgery. For other injuries, it’s probably more of a gray area.

By no means a Man Utd or Tottenham fan (Newcastle fan) but Ange has had a season and a half, Amorin has had a month. @ yeah that’s fair enough! I just feel bad for Ange at the moment, he’s getting nothing but hammered by pundits, journalists and fans despite doing a lot of good for that club in a short space of time! I’m a Spurs fan (a realistic one that knows we’re far from title hopes and cup wins and just wants entertaining football and good results) but I worry Ange is going to be out of a job by the end of the season if people don’t give him a break and a bit of respect! Spurs as a club need generational change, they haven’t fallen off, they haven’t been at it for 15-20 years really and the only way to make that happen is with a long term plan and not an 18 month hire and fire routine that they’ve had under ENIC and Levy and I’m always curious why Ange doesn’t get much praise from people.
