Nintendo DS Lite DOUBLE Screen Replacement

This poor thing just needed two new screens. Annoingly I ordered all top screens so I will order another bottom screen and swap it out. Luckily the bottom screen is the easier of the two to get to.

You swapped the polarity of the right speaker. Everything the left speaker plays will be canceled out by the right speaker. Make sure to connect the speakers properly if you wanna keep the good sound quality of the Nintendo DS lite.

I know the pain of replacing that top screen. I originally just wanted to switch my old DS Lite into a new clear case but I ended up mangling the top screen's ribbon cable. I decided to just order a new top screen and replace the whole thing, being a lot more careful from then on.

Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's fiddly. I've done couple of these replacements. I even mixed white and rose cases into two tone console. I recommend this.

Easy way to center the digitizer is to just insert the digitizer into the shell first and then place the screen over it. The shell will help perfectly align the screen to the digitizer.

Getting the antenna wire for the wifi board under the cartridge slot is one of those 5 seconds or 5 hours jobs. To help, I highly recommend getting some dental floss, make a loop at one end, and use it as a lead for the wifi antenna wire. Highly, highly recommend it, especially if you have many DS lites to fix

A good tip is to just wiggle it unforcefully through, if you know where it's flat point is, you can wiggle the wire slightly side to side, twisting just a lil bit each way and it goes right through. A bit of finesse more than anything

One thing you can do to save a little money in the future is to leave the console on the Home Screen max brightness which will get rid of the yellowing. Also you don’t need to put the ribbon cables through the metal right first, once you get the back off you can do it at the same time you put the ribbon cable through the shell

You made swapping the digitiser look so easy that I decided to replace the broken digitiser on my NDSlite with a new one that I bought a long time ago but was not brave enough to try......now have a working digitiser but a very blotchy looking screen😢

There was a YT channel called Super mod chips that first showed how to replace parts for the DS lites. I don't think they're in business anymore, but the vids might still be up. They're low resolution tho. I've been wanting someone to make new videos in higher quality on how to fix these beautiful machines

I'm working a vid in a pre-run return to my old watch KZbin channel, should be done this weekend highlighting my two recent Seiko heavyweight customs that being the square Bell & Ross Radio Compass homage and my 4R35 heavily modded Tuna. Need to regulate the Tuna as it was a rebuild by myself but its dropping half a minute a week which is not good by my standards, I did have it apart so I could airbrush the tips of the custom trident seconds hand with a bright yellow acrylic as I just could not see the red, frosted the trident prongs and it looks darned good :D My main project at mo is one of my grails, a Slava automatic asymetric e.g. its wonky shaped and super rare, mine has the sought after purple dial and am putting in a brand new movement I buy from Germany usually couple a month as I refurbish my Soviet heavyweight watches.

I ordered a bottom screen and installed it. My DS lite would not boot anymore and if it did it was 5 seconds and off.... Im assuming aftermarket screens are junk... But I also wonder if the small ribbon cable with solder points is slightly different if it was shorting out the board somehow.... I love your retro videos and am a subscriber on twitch to Joey. I can think of two things it could be 1. The F2 fuse is blown 2. If you didn’t put insulation on the bottom screen before you put it in it could be shorting something out on the board, though this normally causes the f2 fuse to go out. So I would check the f2 fuse, before anything else

@@PotatoHunts The first thing I check is fuses. But I'm really thinking it was shorting out because of those small solder pads on that unused ribbon cable that just hangs out in there.

Bit cranking the brightness and pointing 2 microscope leds directly at the screen and leaving it on plugged in for a couple days almost eliminated the screen yellowing so I am just going to sell it as is after the new antenna arrives. It will be on ebay for sale with a charger, stylus, and a game....

You might want to mention that if your new bottom screen does not have rubber backing and is just bare metal, you will NEED to transfer it from the old one or it will blow the fuse and kill your system. It happened to me and seems like a big oversight to not even mention such a crucial step.

This is the worst repair work that can happen to a human being... You did great! Are today's replacement screen good quality? Which ones do you buy? The tn panels I bought in the past were true horror.

For Ds lites all the replacement screens I’ve bought have been fine, about the same as oem quality

I had no issues with aftermarket ds screens so far. Though... "worst repair work"? I have tried getting into a 3DS and gave up after minutes. There is _so_much_stuff_ in there.

Couldn't you use like the plastic floss picks for the rubber nubbins as well? its hard not to damage the rubber regardless I know

It's so rare to find a ds lite with a bad battery, my suggestion is don't replace them.

I think I messed up the bottom screen on my DSL by removing the digitizer, plus I snapped the tab off the connector that the cable plugs into the board anyway, I think I would be better off trying to fix my original NDS again that needs the replacement boards that go in the top half. I don't have any real money in them anyway they were just cheap yard sale finds decades ago.

The ds lite is my favorite console to repair. The gameboy is still a better handheld in my opinion but I love the ds lite because it’s what I grew up with and also was my first repair.

I just got my black ds a few days ago after not having one for maybe 14 years. I wanna take it apart to clean it, and i wanna put good screens in it cuz mine are slightly yellow and i just dont like how bad they are compared to a gba despite being newer. And far as ive seen theres no ips upgraded screens for the ds like there is for literally every gb. Am i just stuck to getting "new" oem ds screens or is there actual better screens?

If you want to get rid of the yellowing, you can just leave it on max brightness for a few days (or weeks depending on the yellowing) and that should lower the yellowing if not get rid of it

I don’t know if the replacement shells yellow, but if you want to get rid of the yellowing on your Ds screens, you can leave the console on the Home Screen at max brightness for a few day (or weeks depending on how yellow they are) and it should either get rid of the yellowing or greatly reduce it

My only issue with ds lites is getting the shoulder buttons to stay in place when putting the back shell back on. The springs always bounce back out on me. Probably a skill issue 😅

If the ds is a Japanese model, the humidity causes the screen to yellow. Even if the ds left Japan years ago, the screens would still be yellow from when they were in Japan
