Always a breath of fresh air! Starting used this method years ago after seeing one of Brian's presentations, and never looked back. Yet, every time I've tried to implement in firms I worked for or even firms I consulted with in transitioning to Revit, this was a brick wall (of many, like you guys mentioned). Can't tell you how many time's I've been told I was wrong or this just isn't "how it supposed to be done"! Best part about running my own practice is I get to implement things like this and other workflows (much of which I've picked up from Jeff and Brian, no doubt!) and my projects are all the better for it. I hate nothing more than the phrase, "it's always been done this way, so it should always be done this way". Keep on fighting the good fight!

I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now. Always learning something new and improving my skills. Thanks for all the work you guys put into making the videos. I do have a suggestion though. Can you make a video about the hardware your guests use/recommend? I know mouse, keyboards, monitors are very personal choice, I'm just curious as to what other people in use to help their workflow. Thanks

This was great. Bummed I missed it live, but this is quickly becoming my mission in life to start tagging elements intelligently.

Great video. I follow Brian MacKey, happy to see him here. Love the tip at 41:11. I also use Phasing to control the graphics of existing vs new. Q: At first I thought Brian was saying to NOT Align+Lock (aka constrain) elements to each other, even detail elements, but @50:28 he says that he used one global parameter to the (fake) grid and locked the remaining items.
@TheRevitKid

Cheers! I think he was using a dimension to lock ONE element and then align locking other elements to it... 6, half dozen.

@@TheRevitKid I have just done 3 sheets of details all using detail items and tags. Wonderful. Took longer as I needed to build some new families, but in the long run that is just going to help so much!

Great video. The only problem: during your live streams I am probably asleep 🙃. But I can always watch it later of course.... We as PRW ingenieurs (a Dutch BIM architectural engineers firm) use as much of the 3D model as possible. Hatch patterns en geometry (to a curtain extend) are the same in 2D as in 3D. Many of our prefab. elements directly go to suppliers wich use our 3D model to create their specific elements. We make the As Designed model, suppliers create (a part of) the As Built model. We also work according to a Dutch standard, called the ILS. This is a system that says how to build a 3D model and what kind of specific information (Data) is needed in the model.

Good video and cool stuff. Brian never disappoints. I still prefer keynotes for now because I like how it is harder for staff to inadvertently change a tag and create inconsistencies. I am very interested in the 2d/3d interoperability thing though. Great video, Brian never disappoints!

A great session thanks Brian and Jeff! Having "annotation" tags that are category-based is a great idea! so you can pull the information out automatically and have it update as you change the category element. Also love the idea of having the linked view details! such a good solution. The coloured tabs are awesome also, what is that tool Prix Apps?
@TheRevitKid

Yes, there are two main apps that can color tabs well... PyRevit and Parallax Tabbed Views+ for Revit (www.parallaxteam.com/product/tabbed-views-for-revit/)

Which tag is being used for the detail tag? Is it the "multi-category" tag family?

I'm curious about Brian's approach to handling a detail referencing another detail. Currently, I'm utilizing view references, but I wonder if there's a different method he employs.

I wish there was a great video of the basics of setting up a detail item with the notes! I have not come across any info on the type of notes Brian is setting up and the video is slightly out of my realm of understanding step 1 setup.
