Let me remind you that Therion - the band, which is at the forefront of a new style of heavy music - symphonic metal, dedicated this driving and really expressive song Son of the Sun to one of the most interesting and dramatic pages in the history of Ancient Egypt, which happened in the middle of the 14th century BC, when the pharaoh-reformer Amenhotep IV took a new name for himself - Akhenaten, built a new city away from everything - Akhetaton, and proclaimed a new religion, the main idea of which was his family relationship as the king of his country with the monarch of Heaven - the one god Aton. According to a estimation of historians, the ideology approved by Akhenaten became the prototype of such political world order and world outlook, which (a thousand years after his death and the ruin of his faith) became dominant among states, including European ones, for tens of centuries - when one God and one ruler, blessed by religious dogma, became the central top of the pyramid of entire society and people. Thus, the doctrinal reform of Akhenaten led to the creation of the first state in the history of our planet with established monotheism as a religion and ideology at the head. Despite the brevity and collapse of this unique experiment, despite the destruction and oblivion that Akhenaten's heirs subjected to, his legacy is huge and does not know its value to this day. Amarna painting, Amarna sculpture, Amarna construction and innovations in all spheres of life and culture - all this makes modern man admire, and in many ways still determines his life. What is worth only one bust of Nefertiti, made by the great Thutmose? The song, written and performed by Therion, is sung on behalf of the priests of the ancient Egyptian cult, who spoke as one against Akhenaten's revolution and branded him a heretic. This painful, but incredibly persistent person could not properly dispose of his discoveries in the field of politics, social science and religion - he was simply ahead of his time, and fate punishes him for this. For example, a terrible plague that struck Egypt and instilled confidence in opponents. Many scholars who are negative about Akhenaten's allegedly untimely and selfish reforms would also appreciate this composition very well. But for me, as for most others, the intensity of the song will always only confirm the respect that goes through the ages for this magnificent figure, humiliated by descendants. P.S.
