I hear you Fiona... If I'm doubt, set the mower to the tallest setting so you're not getting root systems, and don't mow flowering or weeds that are setting seeds.

Doesn't your garden bed overflow eventually when you keep adding compost, and mulch every time you add a crop?
@amymccoy85544 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing.
@Mehdzz4 жыл бұрын
Over the course of the season, the bed will naturally sink down so na it wouldn't overflow.

Very good video I subscribe to your Channel. Your talk about a brown Kraft paper where did you get it and how much does something like that cost?
@TheRipeTomatoFarms4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the support! The brown kraft paper is super cheap. Costs like 3-5 cents to cover an 8 foot bed. Most office supply stores carry it (ie Staples). Just make sure to get the non gloss stuff!
@barbarafugazzotto65894 жыл бұрын
Hi, Sorry if I’m asking, but why is better a bed like this? Thanks Barbara
@TheRipeTomatoFarms4 жыл бұрын
Hey Barbara, it is better for the long term health of your soil because you are supporting it, rather than destroying it. A soil profile is not meant to be dug up or tilled or churned. Its easy to see...nature literally never does it, and for good reason. So by observing nature and copying the methods, you can have the best soil properly, and if you've ever grown plants, you know that if you have the best soil...you'll have the best veggies!

WOW, well said and I got it especially concerning the soil “lifeblood” which I started to worked on as soon as our last talked concerning soil. I googled THE RIPE TOMATOES FARM and automatically went into Amazon; that I ordered my seeds Heriloom AND potting soil and amendments Awaiting Delivery from Amazon (is that the right place to get he Amendments ..?) except, compost/worm casting. I don’t have a yard; just my 25ft balcony unfortunately but I gathered “fall”leaves and following most of your steps so far. What kind or brand of compost and where can I get that from Jeff, Amazon too..? Thanks 🙏 so so much 🙏🇨🇦
@TheRipeTomatoFarms4 жыл бұрын
So cool Seddy! You can grow amazing stuff on balcony, especially one that big!! We aren't selling the compost, just can't produce enough. But hopefully soon with the worm castings!

Definitely Thanks 🙏 for replying. That would be great 👍 Jeff, for the worm casting soon yay..!!! Yea, big balcony for sure (25”X 8”) 1 of those rare ones ... 18th floor tho and Still the BEES 🐝 fine their way all the ways up here... lol 😂 So any idea on what kind or type of compost I can use for now with these amendments..?🙏🇨🇦

I was laughing at your facial expression when you said, "Fall means rain." We live in Zone 8b, south of Seattle. I hear yah. I am late on sowing cabbage. Do I need to wait until Spring?
@TheRipeTomatoFarms4 жыл бұрын
Ha ha, you're right beside us Myla.....you KNOW the rain I speak of! ;) We are a bit unique here....we can still plant out our Brassicas, as long as they are already well-started transplants!

Can you use carboard instead of brown paper
@TheRipeTomatoFarms4 жыл бұрын
Most definitely Gerard....you can use anything...paper towel, newspaper, whatever. I use the brown kraft paper because it breaks down faster than cardboard...I want the roots to penetrate into the soil ASAP and grow THIS fall. If it was an overwintering situation or a crop where time wasn't an issue, cardboard would be just fine. In this case, its just too thick.

How long does red cabbage typically take to grow? Mine have been in the ground for 1.5 months and look like the ones you just planted. Also it's getting cold here 40-50 F. To cold for red cabbage? Thanks for the help!

Hey Karen, after 6 weeks they should definitely be bigger than that. Weird. Did you mulch heavily?
