See, since latent heat of ice is a constant, what you can do is find latent heat of ice in terms of K,A and l from the parallel combination. For that, first find equivalent thermal conductivity, and find heat flown in 4 s, equate this heat with mL, where m is mass of ice melted and L is latent heat. First for parallel: Q=mL=9×(100-0)=9×100 H=∆T/R ( 1/R=1/R1+1/R2 =>R=....) and (R=l/KA) =100×9KA/l t=4sec So,using Q=Ht we get, KA/l=1/4......(1) ........use it for series In series Q=x(100-0)=100x H=∆T/R (R=R1+R2..)and H=100×2KA/l So, 100x=100×2KA×8/l..(use eq (1) here ) => x=100×2×8×1/4 =>x=4....ans. Don't forget to use K1=3K and K2=6K (given )
