Very cool! What's the coating and support materials?

What is the benefit of Hvof for black ceramic vs Plasma which we apply all ceramic with?

Dear Tim, indeed most of the ceramic coatings are applied by plasma spraying since this is a much cheaper process. By using HVOF you can produce coatings with a much denser microstructure, higher hardness and smoother surface. This is due to the higher particle velocity in the spray process, which combined with lower process temperatures can also reduce phase transformations (which means you can maintain a higher amount of the original crystal phase in the powder). In the video the "dark coating" is a electrical conductive TiOx based coating for application as a heating coating system and by having a denser structure (less pores and cracks) you increase its performance. I hope this helps. Kind regards, IWS Thermal Spray Team

@@kylasmurff I would imagine that there would be much less un burnt powder. One thing about plasma it sure seems put quite of bit on everything in the booth and pulled through the collector.
