Just moved into my 1st home and after having a new boiler fitted (in hindsight prob didn’t need a new boiler but plumbing company pressured me into it. Anyway after a week one of my radiators still wouldn’t turn on; been chasing them to return and fix it only to be fobbed off! Last straw this morning was being advised it’s possibly the valve pin and a call-out charge will be £85+ VAT. I quickly searched this and thankfully came across this video. OMG am I forever indented to, I managed to do this following your advise to the T in a mere minute with my radiator now working!😊 Thank you so much for your invaluable informative video, your calm way of explaining this to novices like myself is most helpful. Can’t thank you enough for saving me in excess of £100 I simply could not afford to pay out. All the best. Pam, Bedfordshire x

Excellent instructions. Thank you. Took me longer to find the plumbing spanner than it did to fix the problem, even though the pin was well and truely stuck. Hubby has been informed that leaving the radiator switched off is a definite no, and that the radiator has to be left on full for the next few days. So he will suffer the consequences of constantly turning the radiator off as he prefers to sleep in a much colder room than me!

man, you are a genius! stuck valves now freeing up again - some easier to free up than others mind you! one is moving now using my thumb and 'clicking' open /closed (hope that is supposed to happen!) others still require massaging to free up but getting some heat through so will leave for a few hours to allow water to lubricate (he hopes!)

Last winter, a plumber came and told me it was the pin being stuck. winter is coming again and my radiator is not working when everyone else in the house does. I tried this trick and it works! Atleast I don’t have to wait for my landlord and he doesn’t need to pay the plumber too. very helpful

Yay! With the aid of a bit of wd40 and this method, my stuck TRV pin loosened and now happily opens and closes under its spring loaded pressure. Against the advice of the video I did VERY GENTLY pull the pin up with the aid of pliers, which was originally stuck in the closed position, but only after application of wd40 to the base of the pin and a few sharp taps to the valve body below the thread. I was then able to press the pin down again with the flat back surface of the pliers, and after repeating the process a few times, the spring loaded action kicked in and I was able to see the pin closing and opening again under the application of pressure Thanks very much for the video!
