How long in advance can I make the fondant shirt and coat also when should I put it on the final cake

You can make this as much in advance as you would like. Just be sure to keep it air tight so it stays flexible enough to wrap around the cake. As for when to put it on the cake, you can do that the evening before or the morning of, whichever you are more comfortable with. Just be sure to store the cake in a box in the fridge and right up until just before displaying. This will help to prevent any condensation from building on the cake as it is chilling and when it is returning to room temp. Just be sure to take the cake out of the fridge an hour or so before serving so you’re not serving cold cake.
