My grandmother used to play this song, I remember so vividly. Also, the fact that this beautiful joyful song came out right when America was facing some of its toughest times, and between 1963-1965 this was the era of the civil rights movement and the fact that both of my grandparents March with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and before marches took place my grandparents would get together with local civil rights leaders in the community and would play music and feed the community and my grandmother said this song was always a favorite amongst people. This is such a beautiful feel good song. Brings so much joy. ❤

What an amazing heritage you have! Are your grandparents still alive? They must write a book about their experiences with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and with the local civil rights leaders. This was such an important part of history, especially black history, and stories like your grandparents need to be written and handed down to future generations. My brother marched in civil rights marches as well. I was too young at the time but remember in horror seeing the police brutality of blacks on the news.

I was 5 years old when this song came out. The lady next door had several teenage sons and a teenage daughter and two younger sons. She babysat me and I remember the boys playing all the popular music and teaching me to dance. Since I was so short they placed me on top of the forbidden coffee table that was glass topped with a display of navy knots. Every time they heard their mother they took me off the coffee table. Of course I never gave them away. When I hear 1960's songs I love the music and remember the coffee table with Steve and Ray. Thank you guys!!!!!

@davidr2704
@davidr2704 9 күн бұрын
The drums are very loud and present in the mix, yet it sounds great because a) he listened well, b) he was really aiming to suit the music (didn't just do his personal style every time like many drummers do), and c) his judgements about WHAT would suit the music were usually spot-on. I was going to say Hal Blaine kind of made this song what it is, which is somewhat true, but then I realized that one of the best things about this song is that EVERYBODY on this recording nailed it and they ALL deserve that same credit. Doesn't happen every day.

There’s something about the way she sings “Be my baby now” that just sends chills down my spine. I’m honestly surprise nobody on here is talking about the diction and tone that she used. Because it pairs hauntingly with this wall of sound beat. Tbh I’m not even sure if it is even classified as singing on that particular note. It’s more of a melancholic wail. Like she is truly yearning for whoever this guy is to just be hers. Which is given more effect and power with the vintage production.

You never know how much you'll be affected by seeing one of the figures of your youth pass, but this one really hit me. I was listening to Eddie Money's 'Take Me Home Tonight' on the radio in the last week and thinking what a cool tribute it was to Ronnie. I was really taking in the different pieces she sang in the song, wondering if she voiced her parts in the studio while the rest of the song was being tracked - just really listening to it. She was *so* cool. This song was so perfectly in the groove of what was happening when it was released. Man, I hate to hear this!

Man, 2022 is barely 2 weeks old and we've lost Sidney Poitier, Dwayne Hickman, Peter Bogdanovich, Bob Saget , and Max Julien. Now, Ronnie Spector has checked out. Definitely the defining voice of my favorite Girl Group, The Ronettes. Thanks for the fine vocal, Ronnie, on Be My Baby. You made it a genuine teen anthem in 1963. Love, Peace and Mercy to you, Ronnie Spector.
