The Rose - Definition of ugly is (Live Performance)
Sometimes it helps to take a new direction. Up until 2016, members of The Rose were creating music under the name Windfall, bringing an indie slant to their tunes, which had roots in street-corner busking. But when singer-guitarist Kim Woosung, keyboardist Park Dojoon, drummer Lee Hajoon, and bassist Lee Jaehyeong got with a new management company, a few tweaks were made and their pop success had a proper liftoff. 2017's "Sorry" and "Like We Used To" boasted a vocal-dominated soft-rock approach with heartfelt ballads and plenty of confidence. Critics and fans reacted, and a year later Billboard declared them a K-Pop breakout act with everything needed to craft a memorable career. In 2020 fans of The Rose found they'd been invited to open the Seoul date of Halsey's Manic World tour, but the pandemic squashed the gig. As Covid carried on, the group battled with management, and Dojoon went into the service. Cue disappointment. Now they're back in action, part of Far East Movement's Transparent Arts label, and happy with their impressive new album 'Heal.' We had them into the studio for a spin through "Definition of ugly is" and "Sour," the record's lead track. Check 'em out, and get a taste for what they might sound like on their Heal Together World Tour dates, which stretch through 2023.

We sometimes feel insecure with people because we thought we are different, we sometimes hurt ourselves trying to fit in. Just like ugly duckling, we are indeed different from the rest,but what we need to realize is we are ALL different. When you find your true self, you won't feel ugly anymore and you will appreciate your own beauty. It's essentially about struggling with feeling like you need to be part of something. That you need to be into what everyone around you is into. But you, yourself, are unique. Seeing them live it’s crazy to see that their voices are SO ANGELIC, the main difference in seeing them live vs hearing them on Spotify is that you pick up more music notes on the instruments live and their performance/stage presence is amazing too. Their voice is literally perfect if you hear live or on Spotify though! Sammy also does this cool spinny thing when he’s performing and it looks cool. It’s a bit unfair to other men that they can be this talented, kill the vocals, slay the instruments, have amazing stage performance and all four of them are visuals!?! 😂

Today this song gave me a realization and made me cry. I am 24 and throughout my life I always felt like I should comfort people about their insecurities. And i did so. Because this is a part of my personality. When I value someone, I want that person to feel comfortable and confident. I always accepted them as they were. Relationships, friendships, family relations.. all were like this. But today while listening to this song, I suddenly realized that nobody approached me the same way. I was always asked to change who I am. My personality, my appearance, or the things that I am interested in.. This is truly heartbreaking. I want to be accepted as I am. I just heard this song in person for the first time two days ago. When it first came out I cried a lot but during their concert I was crying like hell. Istg their voices were so amazing and the vibe from the whole crowd and the guys made everything so perfect. The guys hit every note. I can’t really describe all I was feeling.
