I think that if we do see Peridot fuse, it will be with Lapis. Lapis doesn't want to fuse because of her previous experiences with Jasper, but we know Lapis will return. It's possible that they both will be put in a situation where they're not powerful enough against an enemy on their own and when Lapis is apologizing to Peridot, it happens by accident. If this happens, it will be more of a one-time thing and only because they both wanted to protect something (or someone, likely Steven.) Neither want to fuse and they would only do so if they absolutely had to.

I cant say for sure if Peridot will ever fuse, but I disagree with your premise. Fusion isnt sex, its an expression of a relationship. Thats why Lapis and Jasper were able to fuse into a monster, their relationship was horrible so they became their relationship: horrible. Keep in mind too that as the relationship evolves so too does the gem; Garnet looked a lot difference when they first fused, a jumble of colors because their emotions were a jumble. Now that their relationship is stable and orderly so too is the fusion because again, fusion *IS* the relationship, not just metaphorically but physically. Therefore even though many fusions are used to display sexual relationships some such as Smokey Quartz can also be completely platonic relationships. Therefore Peridot can fuse if she so chooses, since she does have relationships with the other characters. On a side note, I believe this is the reason why gem soldiers who fuse just turn into bigger versions of themselves, not because theyre mixing two of the same gem but because their relationship is a boring work relationship so their fusion form is just a larger form of themselves to better get the job done. I believe its possible for two gems of the same type to fuse into something completely new if their relationship is something more interesting, because if the fusion is the relationship and the relationship is interesting it follows that the fusion is interesting. Keep in mind most of this is backed by Garnet, who claims she isnt a person but a relationship, even going so far as to say shes a conversation in her song.

I think it is all a misunderstanding. The book refers to Peridot at a moment in time, it doesn't address future events. Plus, I believe Peridot didn't want to fuse with Garnet because A) Garnet is already a fusion and B) she simply wasn't ready to fuse. Maybe she will be more comfortable fusing with someone who is single like her.

It She may not have an interest in doing it herself so much, but that doesn't mean someone like Peridot who can be very goal oriented wouldn't be adverse to fusing for the sake of completing a task or in an emergency. You know, I'm the last person who'll say Fusion = Sex. In fact when people claim that I actively argue against it. Fusions = Relationships, and sex can be a part of some relationships, but not all. But if Peridot never fused and that somehow represented her being ace, I would be all for it, as someone on the spectrum myself. Still, I want to see *A* Peridot fusion in the show. That is, if it's not out Peridot, then show a different one fusing. I don't care if Peridot fuses. What I do care about is her character continuing to grow and develop. I see quite a bit of myself in her in terms of trying to understand the world, love of using technology, intelligence, silly behavior in some cases, and struggling with social situations and ques. I attached to her for that reason. And the fact other gems did not expect much out of her on Homeworld actually reflects that at one point, my parents and everyone else around me, despite having high hopes for my future, did not expect me to ever get as far as I did. No one expected me to graduate high school and go to college. But here I am, a Sophomore in college. And Peridot developed Magnetic powers and probably telekinesis in general if it ever gets expanded upon.

Asexuality means that's just don't feel like having sex and the need just doesn't come which isn't a problem. It isn't exactly linked in with Aromantic which means you aren't interested in people romantically, a sort of example of how these are linked: Asexuals can be romantically involved. Aromantics can be sexually involved. Being sexually and romantically attracted with another are quite different and one doesn't have to lead to another.

Look, I can be a fan of the show and still also see what seems very clear from a writer's prespective - if Peridot would fuse with anyone, it would most likely be Lapis (and no, I'm not a fan of the nonexistent within the show Lapidot), however I don't see Lapis fusing PERIOD. For both of them, fusion is still a taboo subject and a traumatic experience - Peri might be on Team Crystal Gem, but that doesn't mean she's completely shaken long held views from living and serving on Homeworld. Even Pearl and Garnet are subject to this, not just their views on humans, but their ingrained views from HW. If we go and believe the consensus that Garnet was the first ever cross-fusion (which I do), it means the idea of fusing with anyone not of your type is still an uncomfortable thought and sight. But But Peri was so happy about Smoky Quartz, you shout! Yes. Yes, she was however that doesn't mean she was happy about FUSING, she was happy about her two friends - Steven and Amethyst - fusing to take down Jasper. I mean, she didn't show as much excitement when Jasper was corrupted by fusing with a corrupted gem (I'm not even going to go thru the reasons why bringing Jasper back is ridiculous and most likely fan service). I mean, she's also happy to see Garnet (who isn't!?) because she respects her and Garnet is her friend. Also, I love fusion as the next person, but I don't need to see it done by everyone and their mothers. Especially when Garnet seemed very clear in her explanation on fusion - trust, love, and consent. However, just because you have that DOESN'T mean you need or have to fuse. Like the book says, maybe you don't want to fuse. That's cool! And I would be surprised if that wasn't aimed at fans who feel the unquenchable need to fuse every character in the show with every character in the show, regardless if they can fuse or not.

I don't even see Amethyst. Again, this isn't about closeness, it's about 1. the stigma of fusion and 2. the WANT of fusion. Peridot, even when offered, doesn't seem to get excited about fusion the way, say Amethyst does or even Steven. She's just gotten to the point of accepting the fact that the Crystal Gems and those she calls friends are able to fuse. That doesn't mean SHE wants to fuse and really, we've seen the result of someone being in a fusion they didn't want to truly be in/only did for the sake of the other person. CONSENT is a HUGE thing for fusion, complete and utter yeses on BOTH sides - half assed consent does NOT count.

Fusion has metaphoric connotations to various relationships, like Garnet's romantic, Stevonnie's best friends, Smoky Quartzes sibling-like, etc., so it is not so much shipping as much as an expression of how the characters relate. While I love the idea of someone representing the asexuals/aromantics, I don't think that it is an indication of whether Peridot wants to fuse or not. After all fusion isn't only about romantic relationships. Steven and Amethyst literally bonded over being the worst. I love all the points you made in this video , it made a lot of sense . Big I think you should have mentioned the stigma of mixed fusion on homeworld. Like as we learn from Garnet’s origin , different gems fusing is simply not done . And Peridot was a very by the book gem before she became a badass rebel , I think there’s no reason why if she can shout at a diamond she could get over it , but her mindset regarding fusions May still be lingering . Of course she accepts it when her friends do it but she could very easily still think of it as taboo when applied to her personally :3

*Year 2, day 734, March 6th, 2018.* We to this day wait for Peridot to get her star, after the conformation twice, once from Shelby, once from Rebecca herself. (technically) There have been countless opportunities such as "The kindergarten kid" which aired all the way back in August of 2016, also of course, the season 3 premiere, Log date 7 15 2, was the first time it was teased. We have yet to gaze upon this outfit as I have been rotting away waiting. Be it she ever fuses or not, the star is the only thing I desire to see before anything else happens, until then, adios amigos.

Honestly, I can’t see anything that isn’t platonic coming out of Peri, considering her personality and how she reacted to some approaches from others throughout the series. Sylvia Jones That doesn’t make sense. Asexual would imply that all gems inherently don’t want to have a sexual relationship. The issue is that is that Rose was pregnant with Steven. The process of pregnancy involves sex so Rose can’t be an asexual so that means gems can’t be inherently asexual. Plus I don’t think all gems should be limited to being one thing since gems are meant to be individuals with different preferences and personalities.

Ryan Carson asexual means without natural desire of having sex, it doesn't mean in anyway that asexuals are incapable of sex, or even that under no circumstances would an asexual ever have sex, there are different types, some asexuals are okay with having sex so I don't see why that would prevent rose from doing it once for such a huge and personal purpose as to create another being. Plus I see gems as being asexual in a basic design way rather than how humans would normally define sexual orientation, inherent because they're gems with no reproductional purpose or capability as they're non-organic lifeforms. But from a story standpoint I agree that they should and have differences, but in my personal opinion only within the general asexual bubble, for example I do think that amethyst presents herself more sexually personality-wise such as with her dancing and attitude, in the asexual community generally there can be 3 subdivisions if you're generalising and simplifying as humans do, which would be sex repulsed, indifferent and positive asexuals, which means some even like sex but not from sexual desire but for other reasons which I get is quite a difficult to understand but I think a good analogy would be the fact that amethyst enjoys eating, her desire to eat isn't based on hunger or a need but for weird reasons like she likes the way it grossly passes through her body, which I think is a good enough representation, at least it's the only one I could think of that makes any sense. So in that way I think amethyst is more sexually prone than some other gems like pearl who also coincidentally is repulsed by the idea of eating (unless it's not a coincidence hmmm). Anyway that's what I believe anyway, but I'm explaining this as my own belief and I don't expect you to suddenly believe it all yourself I'd just like my own view to be understood, I understand you and every SU fan has a slightly different view on the matter, were all different with different views and beliefs, and isn't that what Rose and the show in general is trying to teach us about the beauty of humanity being in our differences? Sorry if this sounds a little holier than thou because that wasn't at all my intent. Sorry for the long message too :)

Fusion requires full understanding of each party, which is why they split when gems are arguing in a fusion (garnet can split without the relationship ending). Peridot is fairly well known as a representation of an ASD character, and many asd people struggle to achieve that level of understanding with others. I think that's why, even if she wants to, she can't fuse. I'm not trying to insult people who are on the spectrum, I honestly think it's a really clever way to portray some of the struggles peridot may have as an asd gem

I think another thing to consider when bringing up this topic is that it’s possible for peridot to later want to attempt it with either garnet Steven or even lapis but realize she just doesn’t feel the same way about fusion than the other gems which would add a level of development to peridot
