Was stationed there in 1996, CS1 David J. Henry. One of the best tours of my life. Loved it.

I am surprised no one mentions the film loacation for "Lord of the Flies" which was loacted in this general area as well. It may be the location is too overgrown to be identified.

That's an interesting observation! It's possible that the filming location for "Lord of the Flies" in Vieques has become overgrown over the years, making it difficult to identify. Nonetheless, it's fascinating to think about the history and connections of the area.

To the best of my knowledge the nuclear weapons storage was at Camp Garcia on Vieques. There are large bunkers there cut into a hillside. The marines stationed there were the guards. I was the “radiation safety officer” at Roosevelt Roads in the early 70’s and we had “broken arrow drills “ every 3 to 4 months run by a CWO (chief warrent officer) at Roosy. I once asked the CWO “what if there was a real accident on Vieques” he replied that the western half of Vieques ( the part the navy owned) would put “out to sea”. The drill “story” was weapons were being shifted to the Roosy runway from Vieques and some sort of “radiation” hazard had occured. We had to determine wind direction and ajudicated what to do with the injured “contaminated and non-contaminated” personnel. If we did not store nuclear weapons there all I can say is we sure wasted a lot of time trying to perfect these drills. Everything stopped on the station during one of these drills ie.) traffic was rerouted etc. It usually took about an hour to do the drill.

Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences regarding the nuclear weapons storage at Camp Garcia on Vieques. It's fascinating to hear about the drills and preparations that were conducted, highlighting the importance of safety measures during that time. Your firsthand perspective adds depth to our understanding of the historical context surrounding Vieques.

Great video thank you for sharing it, my cousin told me that there are underground bunkers in Aguadilla Puerto Rico, he said there's still stuff from when the Air Force left behind when the base closed. Keep up the great work 👍and hope to see more great videos.

Absolutely, thank you 🙏 We enjoyed Puerto Rico and wish to find a few more (abandoned) bunkers during this exploration in Vieques. But this was our honest experience 😀

sure there is still stuff left behind like missles in the water they didnt clean it up and people dying of cancer and correction the navy didnt leave they were thrown out of the island by the puerto rican people

@@mariac.gastonpoetabori2836 i dont know what youre on about lol 1. The “bunker” in aguadilla is a myth but very likely not real and there is no bomb residue that area

They are still clearing bombs on the west side of the island, I know because my family is from vieques and my grandpas nephew is clearing them still.
