As an Irish fan I was not surprised that England beat us last year. They were building something pretty powerful with that coaching ticket. Given all the disruption of losing Jones etc I think they’ve actually done pretty well in this series. They came closer to beating NZ than we did in Dub. Think they will go well in this 6N. I’d expect one of France or Ireland to win it but have a feeling Eng will be a very competitive 3rd.

I really felt england had found their flow at the end of last year's 6 nations, but its hard to read now after the losses of key coaches. Completely agree. I think his offensive is even more of a problem - zero line breaks and defenders beaten across 4 games is terrible. I also can’t remember him making one dominant tackle (and he’s meant to be head of defence). It was the same in the six nations. Everyone can see it - he must go. Take nothing away from him being a top club player but he’s not an international anymore.

@N8zro Slade wasn't in the World Cup, which was a surprise at the time as he was playing great, but England's defence was good then. Afterwards, they brought in Felix Jones and decided to play blitz defence because of that coach! Exeter aren't even that good defensively...

@ 2019. He was injured but in the squad and played in the final. Can’t say whether it’s him or just the system, but with the recent struggle there it’s easy to spot going back to watch old games, when teams go wide and hit the 13 channel and score. Scotland did it a lot, France, South Africa and New Zealand all prior to this year.

Which just highlights the selection errors made: picking the likes of Isiekwe and Dombrandt (who just haven't shown themselves to be Test animals), whilst giving no opportunity to the likes of Tom Willis, Ted Hill, etc Ridiculous substitution strategy, seeming more a reflection of SB's limitations and inability to adjust from his pre-set 'plan' when the game needs something different And, yes, crazy, to select Tom Curry after 2 recent concussions - makes a mockery of both 'player welfare' and need to develop next generation of talent Based on that, a 5/10 is probably ok for the overall team, but way too generous on Borthwick as a Test-level coach
@lucascarlisle91164 күн бұрын
Its fascinating listening to people advocate for Marcus at 10. The longer they talk the more it becomes an argument purely based on 'vibes'. He’s a fabulous rugby player, but 40 caps is enough to tell you we aren’t going to win another World Cup with him quarterbacking. Finn has showed he’s got what it takes to manage the game effectively as a starter - Marcus is the perfect bench man, coming on later as the game breaks up where he can use his speed and skill against tired bodies.

Then perhaps you will see some development. For me, I agree with Andy G's 5 out of ten, is the side hasn't developed over the series. Their defensive hasn't learnt and was making the same mistakes against Japan as they did in the first game. If they aren't careful they will sleep walk into another Farrell Ford situation, with the Fin and Marcus. A maverick 10, has never been England's style, do you play Fin and open up your back line more, structured plays, and moves, or Marcus, playing on your wits. That issue needs to be resolved quickly and stuck with. As that will determine the style of attack and defence. The is a lot of hedging from the England management, for fear of their job. Still questioning Smith? It's insane. Is it some kind of homophobia? Is he too metrosexual? Is it his hair? Is it just that the Telegraph just hate flair players? The rest of the rugby world is mystified.

England need an"enforcer" to replace Courtney Lawes.

He was an enforcer? In the same vein as Bakkies to Eben?
@angelaizen22314 күн бұрын
@kenrehill8775 yes, he was. Look at any compilation of his tackles.

@@angelaizen2231 Bakkies v lawes? Only one would be licking his lips. Lawes is a hard tackler, but he ain’t no Bakkies, in terms of enforcer.
@angelaizen22314 күн бұрын
@kenrehill8775 you can't rank people like that. They're not the number 1 enforcer, so they're not an enforcer? Bakkies was dirty. Courtney lawes is widely regarded as one of the most feared tacklers in history, up with Botha and Chabal. He was England's enforcer. Saying he's not number 1, so he's not am enforcer at all is just fallacious.
@kenrehill87754 күн бұрын
@ an enforcer is dirty, that’s why they’re called enforcers. Perhaps not what you’re thinking. A hard tackler is a hard tackler, not an enforcer. Not the same thing.

Could someone tempt Barbeary back to hooker? Seeing as all our current selection bar Georg being very small? For the Six Nations I’d like to see(I know it won’t happen due to eligibility): Baxter, Dan, Stuart, Itoje, Martin, T Hill, T Willis, J Willis Mitchell, F Smith, Hartley,Freeman, Roebuck, Feyi-Waboso Arundell Bench: Rodd, Langdon, Fagosban, O Chessum,Earl, Porter, M Smith, Slightholme

MS should be nowhere near fullback. Stop playing players out of position. They need to keep playing the Smiths to play different game styles. We have had years to bring in Front rowers but ever since Lancaster squad we haven't bothered. Completely remove Dan Cole from the game. He has been too old and slow for the last 5 years. We keep picking the same team over and over again expecting the same results.

If anyone argues this as anything other than abject failure then you’re lost.I’m afraid you’ve drank too much of the Sweeneys Cool aid if borthwick goes anything less then 4-1 in the 6N he should be gone if he goes none for 3 in those first 3 games(which is most likely) if he is not changed mid tournament than England are not a serious rugby nation and we should dissolve and let the English players go make real money across the water.

England are 💩. Come on lads. Stop it now. They're easily 4th best in the 6 nations. France no.1. Ireland 2nd. Scotland a very close 2nd but are 3rd because they struggle to beat Ireland. Wales obviously 5th and itlay last. Globally, England will knocked out quick. Absolutely no chance they're beating SA , NZ, or France at any given time with that squad. England will be a 50/50 with Australia and Argentina

@mikestrutter1274 I was at the japan game. Smith missed 2 kicks, and both were from near the touchline. Every other game, he has missed almost nothing. George Ford missed easier kicks in the games he played.
@mikestrutter12744 күн бұрын
@angelaizen2231 1 was near the touchline, the 1 that hit the post was an easy kick. I agree Ford has reached his sell by date. At International level you can't miss the kicks that smith misses. Not a bad player in an attacking sense, defensively weak....
@angelaizen22314 күн бұрын
@@mikestrutter1274 bro, he missed 1 easy kick. The best 10s in the world all miss easy kicks sometimes. Look at the boks current 10, Libbok. He misses so many easy kicks sometimes. He's still an absolutely phenomenal 10. Fly halves have WAY more to do on a field than just kick for goals. Smith has a better kicking percentage than most 10s currently. The only players with higher accuracy have been playing international rugby for YEARS longer than smith has.
