Just took mine out for their first run. I don’t plan on getting anywhere near ultra distances and am 50/50 road to very light trail for my runs, but just wanted to try them out as all the reviews have been glowing and am a bit of a Hoka fan…although this drops a little with every new retina singeing colour option. Your comments rang true to my experience…a little unstable in the forefoot here and there but ultimately worth it for the quality and pop of the ride. I actually dropped half a size to my ‘regular, every other brand in the world’ UK size and they seem ok. It’s close, but definately fit a little longer than my previous and current other Hokas. They sound like football boots on tarmac and from a purely aesthetic point of view, the design is lacking following the 1 and 2, no flair to them at all. Buy the black ones to hide the upper best you can. The sock construction means they bunch up a little on my low volume feet which is great. I also got a little stone in one shoe so high five for the gaiter. But, they do feel fantastic like a super shoe should, encouraging me to pick up the pace, rolling me forwards with confidence inspiring grip, popping me off the toe. Feel very light too. The price is high, but so is everything now. Sign up on the Hoka website and they drop to £198 with dissy. Then klarna it to really take out the sting. You only live once and you can’t run fast for all of it, so run on the best foams you can whilst you can.

I've had these for a few weeks and here is my short term take: first of all your assessment of the sizing is inline with my experience...I had to size up a half size to not have pain in the tips of the toes, especially on the down. Secondly, the sized up pair I received began to delaminate on the left shoe, near the big toe about 4 miles into my first run in them. I've had three X2s pairs that won't die. One thing I noticed comparing the two versions is that the outsole on the X2s seem to be laminated to the foam a bit short of where the X3s laminate, so in the X2s the foam seems to overhand the outsole a bit (you can see this in the video with the side-by-side comparison). One of the durability weaknesses of the X3 I think will be that because the shoe is a higher profile shoe, the propensity to rub or hit the sides of the shoe on rocks, etc. is greater. That mixed with the location of the laminate seem perhaps will add to the likelihood of the outsole delaminating. So, I'm on my third pair (after all the exchanges, etc.)..we'll see...for $300 we should get a better product that will last.

The outsole rubber wrapping over the edge on the X3 will be to protect the edge of the foam. Delam’ shouldn’t be a major issue here as long as they’re glued correctly.

@@robhaddock2034 For sure I just think dragging your foot across a rock that’s taller than your shoe, likely given how wide this platform is, may have caused the delam on mine…

I preferred my fujispeed II's over tecton x2. Looks like it will the same battle again but this time it's the tecton x3 and the metafuji!

Great review! Fun note for Canadians, the Hoka is the same price as the Adidas! $300 Canadian.

Had mine for few weeks just sent them back. Loved the ride but the upper seamed to stretch a bit and because there's absolutely no padding in the tounge I couldn't tighten the shoe enough to stop my foot sliding around without the laces hurting. Tried sizing down half size to my usual true to size but my toes hit the ends. Just wish they were a tad longer or a bit less volume. Would of loved to see some padding in the tounge even just a bit similar to s/lab cross 2 or something it doesn't need to be much but a bit of extra comfort would be nice.

Hi guys, really love the channel and your the first port of call when I’m looking for new kit. I have a 53k ultra coming up and currently have the Mafate speed 4 and I would like to see how the new Tectonic X3 stacks up against it please. I wouldn’t be mad if you sent me the Tecton’s to try myself !!😂

I really enjoyed the x2 and early impressions of the x3 are that it's a worthy successor. The gaiter is brilliant and they feel very fast. This weekend ill be doing a tough 30k trail route and excited to see how they compared to the x2 which I've done the route in several times

Seems like the ‘24 Hoka UTMB runners were by and large in the X2.5 rather than the 3. Wondering what that is about…
@swenderich2 ай бұрын
From what I understand the 2.5 is quite a bit lighter (I think 35 grams): very similar shoe but more stripped down
@OrdMandrell12 ай бұрын
True story. I ran UTMB this year and a friend of mine was in the Hoka area on his laptop (they had WiFi). I guess everyone thought he worked there because Hayden Hawkes (CCC winner) showed up with his pair of Tecton X 3's and tossed them at the Hoka staff and told them he absolutely fucking hated them and would be running with the Texton X 2.5's. The Hoka staff were dumbfounded and my friend had a cool story to tell.
@owenhenley2 ай бұрын
Most of them had personally customised 2.5s with different setups for each athlete. Ludo's was noticeably a proto that looked, from a distance, like a 2.5. As a 'normal' runner, I love the X 3.
@Conner-d5h2 ай бұрын
Hayden hawks won the 100k in the 3? 2.5 has a more aggressive plate and more cushion. Also it’s a boa system. Otherwise they are similar. The Tecton 3 is a wide general application of the shoe for the general public.

Seems to be more and more that trail shoes will be lagging behind what the elite sponsored athletes have. Similar to road shoes. Also, “step in feel” is a huge selling point for shoes. I don’t know for a fact but I assume with individual athlete’s 2.5 shoes they don’t care about step-in feel lol

The winner, Vincent, was actually in the Tecton X 2.5
@YouTubedarek2 ай бұрын
They said that a couple of times in the video but the title is technically incorrect (even if it is the current consumer version of the 2.5).

If I use that shoe as a "daily" trainer its probably way too expensive ... how many kilometers will I get out of them? And if I only use it for race day that seems like a waste to me. So what should I do ... wait till they get on sale? I bought the Nike UF with a big discount and also the Zegama 1 and 2 really cheap ... lets see what the T3 price will be on black friday.
@Not_So_Common_Sense2 ай бұрын
Aways puzzled by the value of these "trail supershoe" offerings for recreational runners. Too expensive to be used daily or multiple days per week. Maybe on weekly long runs to benefit from the leg-saving properties of the midsole foam. And if they're to be used for their intended purpose (racing ultras) us mortals would probably wear them 2-3 times per year (if that). If racing shorter (say, 25K) an S/Lab Pulsar 3 or similar will probably be a better, faster option. So from my perspective they're more an "object of desire" rather than a truly useful addition to a runner's arsenal. I certainly want a pair but I don't need one...
@martinweston81472 ай бұрын
I guess it’s an ultra race shoe so it’s made for 50-100-160km races plus a couple of pre race training sessions, I’d expect 6-800km from these, based on how long my Speedgoats and Tecton X2’s have lasted.
