This review helped my choice. Coming from a Fenix 5, which had 14 days of smartwatch battery life and going to the Epix 2 is essentially a no-brainer, better screen/sensors/maps/accuracy with about similar battery life is do-able.

@pmaennel71

@@MolocHlevel30 Absolutely right. Battery life soon will go down from 6d to 3-4d of use. Its all about charging cycles, and the Epic will see much more of them than a Fenix 7x. Also the vivoactive-OLEDs show noticeable burn-in over time. Letˋs hope that the Epic doesnt suffer from that.

I absolutely love my Fenix 5 but the number of time it's difficult to read when performing an activity like MTB, where your wrist is already shaking a lot and you don't get that perfect light to read the screen makes me consider the Epix for a replacement in the future. Battery life is not really an issue for me but the added value of a screen that you can read more easily is important :) Nice review guys.

Great comparison. I was waiting for these two models as an option to change my fénix 6 pro. Initially my option was the fénix 7, but now the epix seems a lot better for my needs. It’s not a problem charge the watch once a week. My only worried about the epix was if I could use it in an Ironman. About 11 o 12 hour of activity whit the gps on, but it seems it could handle pretty well, even with the screen always on.

That was a great video, thanks guys. I currently have a FR945 and find the battery life is declining marginally over time. The Epix seems to have a longer battery life than my FR945 when it was new, so that's a big positive for me. From what I've read the solar cells are quite a bit bigger, particularly on the 7X, than on the 6. Real world experience with the 6 was that the solar feature added maybe an extra hour of battery life during an ultramarathon, compared to no solar, the real question is, how much more does the solar on the 7 add in the real world? Thanks again for the video.

@@Rick999888 I think everyone knows the existence of "a torch" .... the watch's flash usefulness comes when you are fumbling through things and needing something quick to light up your immediate proximity. This happens in everyday life, opening doors with your keys, looking for stuff in your wallet/purse/etc ... It's a nice to have feature, and extremely handy. Obviously, in the cases where you are in a race, you are gonna have a head toch. I don't think anyone is disputing that.

had a Fenix 6 pro Sapphire before, and hesitated replacing with either Epix or the 7X. Finally got the 7X with no regrets for not having the Epix Amoled screen! I have a 7 inch wrist, and the 7X is actually more comfortable on my wrist than was the Fenix 6 pro, despite the larger 7X size, in fact it's thanks to it. Iit's bigger size makes it sit better on my wrist without swimming around an no need to tighten the strap. The 7X doesn't feel heavier than the 6 pro either. The bigger screen is a huge benefit for my poor eyesight and the flashlight is truly coming in handy - it's not just a gimmick. Watch face always visible makes it like a real watch too. Very happy with my choice. With the Epix I would have regretted the 7x size. With the 7x, I regret nothing

fun fact, epix was first released in 2015, the same time the fenix 3 was out, it was the only watch that garmin releases with a full mapping capability that you can touch and zoom in and out. a couple of years later they introduce the fenix 5 that has these features in it. if you were to look at it, epix is the daddy of the smart watch of its time back then that makes the fenix its child, and when they revive it in 2022, it should be considered the watch that started off the mapping capabilities on wearable device. fenix 3 back then in 2015 was the first watch garmin had completely revamp the look and style of it that till this day all of their higher end watches (the taxtic delta, the aviation watches, the diving watches and also the MARQ series) are all following the fenix footsteps

Liked the direct comparison. T Technical comment - the audio was pretty quiet in this video. Not sure if mic can be boosted, more mics are needed, or what, but I had to put volume all the way up to hear anything and then the segue music blasted me

I know the Epic has short battery life but still way better than my iPhone that gets charged every day and just is the normal lol, I am torn between these two watches, seen other videos where the Fenix sapphire watch looks clearer with white background over the black but the maps look better on the Epic. The used price of a Garmin 6 now is super cheap so guessing these will also lose there value over time and be cheaper to buy next year new or used.

Went with epix 2 and it was the right choice i think. Also the battery thing is just gimmick for fenix imo. My epix with everything on holds easly about 6 days or so. Then again charging this thing is piece of cake. Its charging superfast. 10-15 minutes of charge gives you about 3 days battery. So During a week put it on charge while going to shower and you are good. On the other hand i think going for fenix 7x is still ok.- But then i would prefer tactix 7 pro because they almost are the same price and tactix just looks way better.

I stick with the Fenix series and upgrade from the 6. This is a sport watch! You are not meant to watch video on it! The transreflective screen is simply the best when in direct sunlight. Just watch the battery drain in that condition with the Epix. The Fenix Sapphire Solar, on the contrary, is not using up more energy in the sunlight but be harvesting some more! Leave the AMOLED to the life-style people...
@MVK_GS
@MVK_GS 2 жыл бұрын
I must be one of the "life style people" you refer to here. I first came across the Garmin Fenix line when I was on active duty in a special operations unit. We had plenty of GWOT funding, so we were initially issued Suunto watches ("Vector" models). Though, we'd end up breaking those in short order. When Garmin launched the first of the Fenix line, we would get those. I became a fan and have owned every Fenix model since then even after military retirement. Nowadays, my "lifestyle" includes 1 to 1.5 hour workouts 6 times a week, to include HIIT, strength workouts, and 10 Km runs. I also own a few other high end smartwatches (you know... for the whole "life-style" thing). Over time, I found that I enjoy the vibrant looks of an AMOLED screen, but also enjoy the longer battery life of a Fenix watch. I can deal with charging a watch every 5 to 6 days while at the office while I compose emails, design projects, etc. I dont envsion a scenario where charging a watch once a week or so is so painfully unbearable (for me, anyway, the days of running by the seat of my pants are over; I can sort of smell the roses now). As for GPS, if hiking I rely on the old fashioned map and compass, reading the terrain, and use a handheld GPS as backup/verification (prefer the larger screen of a dedicated GPS to that of a watch). I don't see myself moving for over 40 hours in the woods while relying on the GPS longevity of a watch. If my Epix can do GPS for my trail runs during the week, that's plenty. Though, I totally respect folks with use-cases that requires the full capabilities of the Fenix 7.

You won’t be looking at your screen with the reflection obviously. You will tilt your wrist to remove the reflection so that you can see clearly. I’m not sure what the big deal is?? Epix is very bright maybe to bright like a neon sign.

Kinda torn lol. The only benefit for the Epix really seems to be the screen. That being said, I dropped apple a few gens ago due to breaking three of them and I honestly don’t even notice the screen difference on my Fenix 6 after adapting. I love the idea of the big bright screen but I don’t love the idea of people seeing me at night when I’m at work. Military and law enforcement folks know exactly what I’m talking about.

@@rf4087 yup that’s what I ordered. I’ve been running the Fenix 6x sapphire pro and it’s been a great watch. I charge it every two weeks on principal but could probably push close to 3. Man, such a bummer that you can't turn the screen brightness down a bit on the Epix. If you could, then you'd get even longer battery life, yet still having a brighter screen than the Fenix 7, which can be made no brighter.

You can turn down the Epix 2 brightness. I have one, I keep it at the lowest brightness, and have motion glance on (only transit on the face when I turn my wrist). Still brighter than my friends 7X and the motion on is far more responsive. I get 16 - 18 days of battery life (I don't turn on multi-band GPS; as I run with a fairly unobstructed sky view).
