Just dropping some info seeing that people are debating about India being in Asia as well as the fact that the Indonesian guy knows so much about India . South East Asia has actually been called "Greater India " because of the historical Hindu- Buddhist empires which dominated there . If you actually look at many of the cultures of South East Asia , there are strong similarities with Indian cultures (particularly South Indian ). Also the scripts of South East Asian languages come from the South Indian Pallava script . South East Asia is additionally a genetic melting pot too because of its Hindu- Buddhist history as well as its strong Arab and minor Portuguese Dutch influences . The original South East Asians were descended from the ancient peoples of Southern China thus they are predominantly so called "Mongoloid" but because of its diverse history with intermixing there are many South East Asians who strongly resemble Indians especially in Indonesia, Malaysia , Cambodia and Southern Thailand. Its also because of these strong historical connections why many South East Asians, particularly Indonesians know a quite a bit about India because in a way many see it as a sort of ancient homeland or like a great grandfather . :)
