Fun facts: last SM Halloween 2018..NCT 18 members that time join as well..and Johnny who dress up as Tony the cereal tiger...sent a bunch of tiger cereal for the whole 2019 for them for free.

Halloween didn't used to be a very big deal in Korea. However, SHINee and SM kind of changed all that. Fun fact: The middle of summer is horror season in Korea. Koreans say they like to watch scary movies and shows in the summer because it gives them chills, which they say cools them down when it is hot. Which is one reason why celebrating Halloween in October wasn't really that big of deal before. Halloween in Korea is pretty much a western culture transplant. It has only been in the last 10 or so years that Koreans have started to celebrate Halloween by holding costume parties, and it's all thanks to SHINee. SHINee is the group that first started the Halloween trend in Korea and they are the reason why we have things like dance practice videos where groups dress up in Halloween costumes and do special Halloween events, etc. It all began in 2013 when the members of SHINee decided to dress up in full costume for a fan meeting, which became a trending topic in the Kpop industry. They had so much fun that the SHINee members decided to attend SM's annual company dinner party in costume as well. SHINee's costumes got so much attention that Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) decided to make the company dinner a Halloween party every year. Now SM is known for holding one of the largest costume parties every year. The event is like the Met Gala of Halloween parties, and is usually attended by some of the biggest name celebrities in Korea. However, the event was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic, and in 2021 -- which is what this NCT behind Halloween video is from -- it was scaled back as a Halloween House party special event for fans because of social distancing and smaller crowd requirements. (Unfortunately, there was no big Halloween party or any Halloween events from SM artists last year.) As part of the party, there is a costume contest and, in the past, the person with the best costume has won an all expenses paid vacation trip. SM Entertainment members are known for being some of the most competitive. They are the ones who go all out when it comes to dressing up -- always trying to outdo each other. So it's a pretty steep competition among the top contenders every year. And each year they have to come up with something better than what anyone did the year before. For example, one year Key from SHINee dressed up like Ronald McDonald from McDonald's and SHINee's Onew was Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), which created such a buzz and went viral worldwide that Key says McDonald's sent him a giant stack of coupons for free meals as a thank you for the advertising.Then Chanyeol from EXO had to outdo everyone one year by spending a small fortune on an Iron Man costume imported from overseas, which won him the top prize -- it had real working lights and sounds, and he couldn't even sit down with it on, so he had to walk to the event. Which then made Key even more competitive, so the last time he attended the Halloween party in 2018 he came as Voldemort from Harry Potter. You will see why he received the award for best dressed that year. And then in 2021, which was the first year the SHINee members were able to attend since the pandemic cancelled the event the previous year, and this was the first year since Onew, Key and Minho were discharged -- Onew kept the tradition going. (The pirate character with the missing arm.) > Jaehyun, from 127, and Haechan, from 127 and Dream, dressed up in their vampire costumes from NCT-127's "Favorite" Halloween dance practice video. > Jungwoo, from 127, was Bella -- the main character from the Twilight book and movie series. > Taeyong, from 127, was Edward -- the main character from the Twilight book and movie series. > Shotaro, from U, was Jigsaw from the horror movie Jigsaw. > Sungchan, from U, was the Joker from Batman. > Taeil, from 127, was a nonspecific boxer. > Johnny, from 127, was the Coca Cola polar bear. > Yuta, from 127, was Kenshin Himura from the manga Rurouni Kenshin. > Xiaojun, from WayV, was Venom from Spiderman. > Hendery, from WayV, was Detective Conan's Killer from the Japanese manga series. (The silhouette character with the rench). > Kun, from WayV, was Kaonashi from the animated movie "Spirited Away" (The no-face goblin.) > YangYang, from WayV, was Kaneki Ken from the Anime Tokyo Ghoul. > Ten, from WayV, was Ciel Phantomhive from the Anime The Black Butler (Fun fact: At this time Ten was working in China, so he dressed up and sent his video from China.) > Renjun, from Dream, was Pinocchio. > Jeno, from Dream, was triangle mask man from Squid Games. > Jaemin, from Dream, was square mask man from Squid Games. > Chenle, from Dream, was The Nun from the horror movie The Nun. > Jisung from Dream was Son Heung Min, a famous Korean soccer player. If you watch the official SM Halloween House Party video you will also see a lot of other SM artists such as Super Junior, SHINee, Red Velvet and aespa, etc. dressed up in some really cool costumes as well.

The reason there was no Halloween Party in 2022 is that the Saturday before Halloween, the Itaewon neighbourhood, which has a lot of clubs and restaurants, had a huge Halloween bash and due to the fact that it was the first Halloween since Covid restrictions ended, tens of thousands of people showed up. It was so many more people than police, business owners expected that there wasn't nearly enough crowd control and several thousand people jammed into a tiny alleyway panicked and caused a crowd surge and 154 people, mainly teens and college students, were crushed to death. SM was scheduled to live stream their party on the 31st but the entire country stopped all entertainment events for a period of national mourning. It is likely that future Halloween events in Seoul will be toned down or just not happen anymore as it is now the anniversary of the death of so many young people.

@@milindawilson9175 My intention wasn't to criticize your comment, just to inform commenters on the channel that might not be aware. Many newer kpop channels as well as fans aren't always aware of the current affairs that happen in the background of their newfound kpop journey. Most of the time it shouldn't get in the way of our celebrating the music that we love but some things are just important for context. I personally discovered kpop and EXO right around the time of Kris Wu's arrest but was unaware. I was really excited that EXO had a former Canadian member as I am Canadian, only to google him and realize the situation. SM was scheduled to stream their Halloween party on Beyond Live but cancelled it. I do hope they continue the tradition in the future but it would be understandable if they don't. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy the past events. I love Shinee and NCT and all their previous costumes.

You’ve got to react to the actual video! It has every NCT member out of the 23 except maybe 2 or 3 of them. It’s where they sit at tables dressed in Halloween costumes and making Halloween buckets for each other. Just type in NCT Halloween and you should be able to find it. It’s so good!
